Hellfire vs threads are against the rules, and your posts need to be more then off the cuff remarks, lacking content. Read the rules.

Meanwhile CAST says that this is the new Bumerang. Which exact variant is unclear. The photos are allegedly from TsNII Burevestnik. The original photos were posted on a social media site by a private person.

Ð”ÐµÐ½Ð¸Ñ ÐœÐ¾ÐºÑ€ÑƒÑˆÐ¸Ð½ - Ðу что, он?

People are commenting that this may be a French-Russian conceptual design, essentially a mockup, using the 57mm autocannon turret, and a modified VBCI chassis. I'll post any new information here.

EDIT: Officially unveiled, this is indeed not a Bumerang prototype. It's a mockup by UVZ together with Renault Trucks Defense, and Nexter Systems. The turret is a 57mm autocannon, and the chassis is a heavily modified VBCI. It's described as a "heavy wheeled IFV" intended for third world markets.

There's a couple of new photos here: http://bmpd.livejournal.com/621165.html

And a photo of the interiors: http://thewaran.livejournal.com/30979.html

Meanwhile, mass deliveries of upgraded BMD-2s are continuing. Now new index is given, but the upgrade consists of a new radio, and a stabilizer the weapons. It looks like, despite loudly announced plans for the new BMD-4Ms, the BMD-2s will remain in service for a long time. Especially since they've reworked the BMD-1s into BMD-2s. It's not clear if that upgrade is complete, or still in progress. Though to be honest it's not that surprising. Currently a new VDV para-assault brigade is being formed in Voronezh, with a completion date of 2016. If the armed forces continue to increase in size, it will probably mean longer service lives for current equipment as new equipment goes to new units.

Some updates. First photos of the new Epoha combat module, in assembly.

Here's photos from the poster.

Andrei-bt -

Presumably these are combat modules for the new IFVs on the universal chassis. However given the recent installation of 30mm cannons on the BTR-82s, and the procurement of BMP-3s with IFV combat modules featuring a 100mm main gun, there are some questions. Perhaps this module will be used for APCs, and a new 57mm or 45mm module will go to the IFVs.

Meanwhile, some updates, the Volk program is set to complete next year with state trials, and procurement. Some photos of the Volk and Medved armored vehicles, from the manufacturer.

Also, a special version of the Tigr, for the SpetzNaz is being prepared. It looks like it will be a version of the Tigr-M with class 5 protection, and an armored engine.

More photos, of lots of interesting things. It looks like the new 120mm arty system will be the Nona-K, and there's a mockup of it on a Volk wheeled chassis.

bmpd - 120-

Now the first two photos of this next one, are the autoloader truck for Koalitsiya-SV next-gen SP arty. The very edge of the rear of the new howitzer can be seen in the photos.

Below that is a remote control machinegun station under OKR Zavet, being tested on a BMP-3 based vehicle of some sorts. Below that is another remote MG station under OKR Veer. Finally the last image is a CG image of a new AAA under development, which uses the 57mm gun, under OKR Derivatsiya-SV. An image of the turret being produced is here: http://s020.radikal.ru/i718/1401/33/82f91462ea40.png

Ð”ÐµÐ½Ð¸Ñ ÐœÐ¾ÐºÑ€ÑƒÑˆÐ¸Ð½ - Ð˜Ð·Ð´ÐµÐ»Ð¸Ñ "БуревеÑтника"

Finally some photos of the Bumerang-BM module in production at KBP. I'm still not sure whether it's intended for APCs or IFVs.

bmpd -

EDIT: Here's a close-up of the new Epoch module. It looks like the two sets of sights that appeared to be identical are actually a little different.

I thought the Koalitsiya had been cancelled and that a new self-propelled system based on the Armata would be developed. Or is this the same project?

Same project. The twin-barrel Koalitsiya design has been scrapped in favor of a conventional single barrel, and the chassis has been switched from Object 195 to Armata (not sure what the Object designation is).

The first batch of 30 Tayfun-U have been completed. You can see, though not very well, the first Ural 4X4 Tayfuns, iirc they have not been shown publicly before. Supposedly the Land Forces will evaluate the Kamaz and Ural offerings, and based on that make a procurement decision, but I strongly suspect that UralAZ will lose. Kamaz has a lot more lobbying power, and has already presented a whole lineup of vehicles based around a basic common platform. Of course the worst case would be both getting purchased.

Hi

Quick question: I have read that T-80s were recently phased out, and (partially?) replaced with (modernized) T-72s.

Does someone know what's the reason for the move ? Is this going to trigger a decrease in the number of MBT in active service ?

I must admit I was quite surprised by the news. I had no illusion on the combat potential of the T-80U vs the improved T-72, but I don't see where they can find enough modernized T-72 to replace the whole fleet of T80U, which I believe was quite large ? (more than 1,500 ?).

Thanks !

The T-80 was phased out due to several factors IIRC: thirsty gas turbines and simplifying logistics with a single platform in service. I think it's still in service but replaced slowly with upgraded T-72s. I doubt there are 1500 T-80s in service.

The decrease has already occurred. It occurred as part of the Serdyukov-era reforms. They are now standardizing the tank fleet around the T-72/90 platform.

They're actively upgrading to the tune of ~120-150 T-72s every year, starting in iirc 2012. The upgrade is not that substantial. It's the Sosna-U sight and FCS, including thermals, digital comms, and K-5 ERA.

What happens to all the T-80 tanks?

A waste to scrap them. Or are they in storage?
I think they're being sent into storage. Remember the extra T-72s to be upgraded, to replace T-80s, are coming out of storage.

Does anyone know what the green crane arm looking thing on top of this BTR (Typhoon-M counter insurgency mod) is?

militaryrussia.ru/i/284/758/O6sPF.jpg

EDIT: Nevermind, it's a radar.

http://militaryrussia.ru/i/284/758/IJAWW.jpg
http://militaryrussia.ru/i/284/758/NiFww.jpg

Why on earth would an APC need a radar array?
It's a special security vehicle for the nuclear forces. Radars can be used on the ground, and Russia has quite a few. The Khrizantema-S has a radar, as do some MT-12 Rapira AT guns.

Speaking of the RVSN, they're getting a security robot, making them the first to make use of unmanned ground vehicles - after the RKhBZ did. It's designed to be used together with the Tayfun-M.

That Tunguska is intense...

I looked it up and noticed its anti air craft but I am guessing that this thing can fulfill any role in a battle field

It has been, along with the Shilka, used successfully against ground targets in the Chechen wars.
