How do you think the LCA would perform against Pakistan?
I think the LCA is highly underrated in this forum.
A2A, the LCA will be a match to anything the PAF currently has.

Srirangan,

I fully agree with you. The LCA is one of the best combat jets I have seen. You could say that I am biased, but I have compared it with other jets and the work-of-price or price-efficiency seems amazing to me. A link I got from a thread in this forum mentioned that it will cost 20-25 million a piece, and with some efforts it should be reduced to 15 million a piece. Compare this with the Su-30MKI which is obviously a bit better, costing 35 million. The Rafale costs 70-90 million. It is also the world's smallest multi-role. This jet is truly amazing. If this jet succeedes, this in my opinion will pave the way for the MCA and later on great respect for the Indian airforce. Remember, "Never under-estimate the enemy."

Re: Which Aircraft Should PAF opt for?

I think if you were paying a little more attention and reading this entire thread, you would know that both the Su-30 and Gripen are a no no for PAF at this point in time Air Marshal. Su-30s are Russian equipment and cant be sold to Pakistan without Russian permission. Sweden has already turned down Gripen to PAF due to the usual Indo-Pak problematic political situation. End of Story.

USA Has agreed to sell PAF F-16s. The Jets would be off C & D varient (Block 50 or 60 depends on Pakistan). USA has also assured that PAF can aquire unlimited F-16s with out any trouble in the future.
President Bush talked to the Indian PM but he by passed his concerns. Later he had informed his Pakistani allies.
The report has been confirmed by GEO Tv & the ministry of information of Pakistan.

Meanwhile My own sources r too speek in later tonight with me on this.

US approves F-16 sale to Pakistan

The US government has approved the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan, Bush administration officials say.
US President George W Bush called Indian premier Manmohan Singh to tell him about the decision, which is to be announced later on Friday.

Indian government spokesman Sanjay Baru said that Mr Singh had expressed "great disappointment" at the decision.

The premier told Mr Bush it would exacerbate India's security concerns for the region.

But an unnamed US official told AP news agency that the sale would not change the overall balance of military power in the region.

India on the other hand also signed advanced weapons deals with Israel and Russia. Indian government also plans on acquiring about 125 fight aircraft for Indian force. There has been no reports of final decision from the Indian government.

"[The F-16s] are vital to Pakistan's security as President Musharraf prosecutes the war on terror," the official said.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice discussed the F-16 issue with Indian officials during her recent visit to the region.

Successful fighter

Pakistan's information minister, Sheikh Ahmed Rashid, confirmed to the BBC Urdu service that Pakistan would be getting F-16s.

Correspondents say that the Indian government fears the arms deal will disturb the military balance between the long-time rivals and affect the current peace dialogue.

With this deal Pakistan hopes to minimize the threats posed by India's weapon deals with Israel and Russia for advanced fighter jets and Phalcon early warning systems.

Pakistan signed a deal to buy F-16s in the late 1980s but they have not been delivered because the US imposed sanctions in the 1990s over Pakistan's nuclear programme.

The United States did sign a separate $1.3bn arms package with Pakistan last year.

The F-16 is built by Lockheed Martin and is one of the world's most successful fighter aircraft.

About 4,500 are in commission with air forces around the world.

Sabre, this has been confirmed my MSNBC and other sources in the US also. The State Dept. says they will release details later today. Here's the story on MSNBC:

Bush is going to get a lot of criticism for this, both at home and from Europe.

Re: US approves F-16 sale to Pakistan

This is good news for pakistan as they have been seeking these fighters for such a long time and at long last can recuperate their fleet of the Falcons. Further to add, India their counterparts are elevating an uproar over the decision which isnt good for Indias case rather than anyone elses as nothing is going to happen and they would look stupid at the end of it all.

Now whats required is some wishful thinking on behalf of pakistan hoping that the price tag of the Rafale drop dramatically or the doors open to a possible Gripen deal

Which block is PAF going to get?

Probably its either Block 60 or the Block 52.
I think they would be Block 60 if it is Block 60 then the Whole Grippen thing would be shelved for the time being. these AC would come with allot of subsidized stuff So they might come cheaper then unit price, the Block 60 should not be as expensive as the UAE versions since UAE paid the Whole Development Costs. the Status Quo would be the Block 60.
this is brilliant for PAF they can wait till the JSF come on to the market and they can wait for the Ef-2000 to be fully developed.

Re: US approves F-16 sale to Pakistan

I have a word with some ppl. Its going to be a combinition of both 50+ & 60. USA has said that PAF can buy the latest versions with advance weapons

My Source::F-16s have been offered to India but it has not been found wheather on similar level as to Pakistan..Pakistan has been offered a full package with advance weapon system so it could match up with Su-30.
PAF is also expected to raise the number of F-16s to over 200. But the current number that is to be bought is said to be 80 (mentioned on Geo Tv) but the sell is for unlimited numbers in the long run.

It seems highly unlikely that India will buy F-16s any more...more of mirages. We should consider other AirCrafts along with F-16s.
With this I doubt J-10 will be considered.

Re: US approves F-16 sale to Pakistan

I just read this news on BBC and I cudnt control the never-ending smile that streaked across my face. Lets hope all goes well and we get the Falcons asap to correct the balance of air power which has for so long been tilted in IAF's favor. Sabre, 200 Falcons sounds good to me and with the way PAF has maintained its current 32 Falcons; it is certain that we'd keep the newer ones running well until 2020 or even beyond that before deciding on a more advanced jet for frontline role.

Re: US approves F-16 sale to Pakistan

It looks like the long wait for the F-16s was well worth it. If PAF had recieved the F-16s when they were supposed to, it would have recieved outdated F-16A/B's and still be at IAF's mercy. Now I see why the talks were so long, I think the US was offering A/B block at first and Pakistan wasn't interested, saying it wanted the Block 60. Finally, the US gave in, and saved Lockheed Martin, which had delivered it's last F-16 a few days ago to the US Airforce.

All in all... a win situation for all... Pakistan finally get's those damned F-16s, India will get some planes as well and the US saves Lockheed Martin.

On the other hand, US congress will still have to approve the sale before it is formalised.
