Re: UPDATED: Which Aircraft Should PAF opt for? PAF Picks JAS 39 Gripen!
Ok here is some thing interesting i came across.
Its not the PAF that went looking for Grippen but it were rather The Swedz who approached PAF for Grippens. Grippens have been in PAF pockets since 1994 when Swedz defence deligation gave its presenatation on Grippen. PAF liked the Jets but still saw F-16s as more cost efficient than any other Jet.
Now after 10yrs when PAF is desprite for news Jets reconfired Swedz that the deal is still on.
The president is leaving for Europe & USA trip most probably on 24th June. He still has F-16s on agenda. So if PAF gets F-16s than Grippens might not be purchased & if denied again by the end of july PAF Grippens would be under way its construction (minor addition on already built 1st hand Grippens standing by) & by August or September Pakistani will see Grippens fly over Khi skies with roaring sounds as they take of from their carriers.
I went on with a research on this news & all I found was that its true that Swedz made the first move & as PAF badly needs a front role fighter they might just go for it. Another source told me that Pak is going for both F-16s & Grippens. Its not 60 empty slots in PAF but 80. 40 Grippens is minimum estimated number while actual number might be near 60 & 20 F-16s. If no F-16s than 60+ Grippens & rest would be Mirrage 2000-5 from France (Mirrage are also on Presidents agenda). There is no chance for Rafel as PAF has already evaluated it but PAF deligation might just visit EF-2000 for future purchase. The actual budget for PAF is disclosed but it is no doubt very high.
Thirdly JF-17 is going to go pro. PAF deligation is going to give their presentation to NATO & oon the other hand has asked for help from France & Swedz to upgrade the Jet (may be even help make it double seated). But this is a roumer & I dont have any idea abt it aswell. May be the redar system might be improved or some thing. (Chian would love to see Pak succeed in this, if it happens China wuld be re-interested in the Jet)
In 2001 Powel Denied the release of F-16s to Pak but now Donald Rusfield has given some indications for the release of F-16s. He also told this to the new Indian foregin minister.
Meanwhile Hindustan times has reported that Swedz have confirmed Grippen's sale to PAF.This proves that Grippen is not a roumer.
(you can search this news on the net)
Another Info I came across is that Swedz dont provide arms to any country involved in conflict but they do provide all the spare parts & maintainance unlike USA. So this just might force PAF to buy Grippens after all rather the USA's F-16s.
