Fighter plane successful in test flight

An improved version of China's new generation fighter plane, Xiaolong/FC-1 (or Fierce Dragon), proved successful in its third test flight Friday morning at Wenjiang Airport in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The seven-minute trial flight revealed good performance, according to experts.

The plane, the result of a cooperation program between China and Pakistan, named as Thunder/JF-17 in Pakistan, made its first test flight successful on Aug. 25 last year. The success was listed by the public as one of the top ten scientific and technological achievements of China in 2003.

China planned the development of a new generation fighter plane in the late 1980s and a program development consortium was formed to carry out the task. The program was officially launched in 1999and was led by China Aviation Industry Corporation I, the leading operator of the aerospace industry in the country.

The next test-flight for the fighter plane will take place nextyear to test onboard electronic device and weapons.

-The History and Design Philosophy
-Chengdu and FC-1/JF-17's development
-Electronic systems
-The roles of the JF-17 for the PAF and PLAAF
-Future prospects

Everyday we will publish one part of this article on JF-17. Enjoy!!!

Ok guys one big differeence between prototype 1&3.It will have a huge effect on the airplane's performance.Guess what that change is? :D (Hint don't sit on the "FENCE"!)
Oh and welcome Tallgeese.U may already know me as RG ;)

Yeah wing fences have been removed along with two of the "needle probes" from the nose
Yup! but what does that signify?Plus there are also a few more subtle changes.Lets see if people here can spot them.

my reading in chinese saying that the air intake also was modified. prototype 04 will be ready by th end of this year and start tesing avionics and weaponary system in next year (i am pretty confortable about my chinese...:)).

chinese side made the concepts of the fc-1 design clearly: based on cureent mature technologies china has such FBW (fc-1 uses partial FBW to lower the cost), long term engine supply (licensed copy of russian RD-93), peformce should equal to the early model of f-16/a/b with bvr capability and the design should leave enough room for future moderfication.

chinese sources also said that fc-1 would fly 500 test flies before the limited production starts, which should be 2006; the life span of plane frame would be 30 years. as to the stealth features, china sources merely said that reducing RCS was a part of fc-1 design considerations but fc-1 was not considered as "stealty" fighter.

something interesting here is that cac said it will build four prototype planes but pakistan side always said there will be 5 or 6 prototype planes built. one of possibilities for this is that cac build a prototype just for paf testings. given the fact that paf is very familiar with both f-7 and f-16 (maintainace and management), it should not take that much time for paf to put jf-17 inot battle patrol (2008).

compare with LCA, the approach of fc-1 is much more pratical and less costy. i doubt that lca would be in service (battle formation) before 2008.

i don't think that plaaf would use fc-1 since it just doesn't fit in the pucture of chinese national defense strategy since it faces different kinds of potential adversaries, which are far more powerful than iaf.

Feature Of FC1 /JF 17

My Friends I read many things about the FC. and some time hard words exchange between the Pakis and Indians.. Both try to convence there Planes are Superior.

What i think :?: and realise that Pakistanis make a Fighter Plane Which is a historic achivemnet being a third world country like india we have much lesser resources and funding and other .. what i want to know our F 7P / Mirages /F16 and A5 are nearlly to end there service lives FC 1 is not the replacement of these four aircrafts how every it can give enough support to PAF but they also need 2 to 3 types of more planes for the PAF what i think PAF can easily get J 10 from china .. why pakistan move toward's the Russians i think there Jets are also tooo good if India can find equipment from both US /Europe and Russians with the same time why dont we make good relations with Moscow and try to invest in there uncompleted projects with the help of our chinese friends. like MIG 35 or MIG 1.44 is a suspneded progect and 5 generation Fighter plane ...
;)
Or why dont we try to aquire Swedish Grippen its also a fine Machine tooo :smokingc:

What is the cost of JF 17 and can pakistan easily sold these birds to any other country easily and was the cost if they sold out ... :idea2

PAF to get first batch of JF-17 jets in 2006

ISLAMABAD: The first batch of eight JF-17 Thunder aircraft jointly manufactured by Pakistan and China will be inducted in the Pakistan Air Force in the middle of 2006, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Shahid Lateef, the chief project director of JF-17, told reporters on Friday. AVM Lateef told journalists about the JF-17 Thunder maiden flight and said that Pakistan would not only manufacture these aircraft locally, but would also export them. —APP
