Indonesian AMRAAM missile has arrived. The coming of the missiles have made our F 16 C/D got BVR capabilities. I believe second batch AMRAAM will be bough again under current administration, not only to arm our F 16 C/D squadron but also our NASAM.

The first batch of 32 AIM-120C-7 is ordered in the SBY era.

Quite a long delivery time, after all these years of waiting.

I see on the right wing an AGM-65D (or 65G?), but these were delivered before the 24 second hands F-16C/D came to Indonesia.

32 AMRAAM only can arm 16 F 16 C/D, we need at least 16 more AMRAAM for the rest of F16 C/D and 20 AMRAAM for our F 16 A/B who are currently getting upgrade and MLU in Madiun.

By seeing China has launched its second Aircraft Carrier last week that possibly will sail regularly in SCS, we need another additional 40 AMRAAM for spare and deterrence. So in total we need 100 AMRAAM missile.

If current administration decided to buy another batch of AMRAAM it then can be assumed that those missiles will be received by a new administration, considering how long we got the first batch. By the time that possible second batch arrives, China has already inducted another 2 Aircraft carriers.

Agree, 32 AMRAAMS for 23 F-C/Ds and 10 F-A/Bs is just pathetic. 150 AIM-120C-7s is enough to arm every F-16 with 4 missiles.
But dont forget the NASAMS, those launchers also need a lot of missiles.

Here is the preparation for Tomorrow. I hope they can do first flight at least 6 months from now. This is the consortium lead by BPPT which is under Ministry of Research and Technology so the reason there is Lapan there IMO because Lapan will develop its SAR radar for this UAV, PT LEN Industry is also included to develop mission system and flight control for this UAV. This project become a consortium IMO because Ministry of Research and Technology listen to Prof Josaphat opinion who suggest the government to create the consortium for MALE UAV project so that many institution/SOE in technology field can get benefit from the program. Despite so first block of this UAV IMO will still use foreign mission system and probably also foreign flight control. PT LEN Industry mission system which is currently used for Wulung UAV (which is also design by BPPT) is still not sufficient for MALE UAV according to my opinion.

As we know Jokowi in the very beginning of his administration has said about the importance of UAV to protect our territory. So I think thats why we see this project is running since Jokowi become a President. This project fits with his vision and also not cost too much money either.

More photo and information I believe will come out Tomorrow.

Some people claim it is a flyable prototype which already has flown, but as you said, i think the first flight has to come yet.

Hopefully this link can be opened.
Industry Made in Indonesia
Something that I found really annoying is the color though. It shouldnt be painted with green color. Look weird IMO. They should use the color of the sky rather than jungle. Maybe they painted the drone with green color to show to the journalist that it is a military drone. I hope they change the color later.

I also hope more information is going to be released during this formal launching of the drone. Information about when the expected first flight will take place will likely be released to the media. I am also quite curious about the engine who power the drone.

Talking about second batch of AMRAAM missile, current administration have already approved it. Latest AMRAAM press release has confirmed it. I just read it in other forum but the poster doesnt give a link just copy pasting the press release. There is no information about the quantity though. It only show number of nations who sign latest contract for AMRAAM. There is Indonesia on the list. The time of arrival is 2023. Not bad.

Not many airforces have their entire fleet of aircraft in the air at the same time, even on operations...

Even so, I suspect this is merely an initial tranche of weapons designed to allow the introduction to service of the capability and provide a limited initial operational capability. When they can actually employ the capability in full across the service, the ‘warshots’ will be acquired.

About the green colour: thats just the primer layer.

The second N219 prototype was also still green when it already fly. Maybe it still is.
So i dont know if they keep the UAV in her 'underwear', or give it a paintjob before the first flight.

Hopefully more AIM-120 will come soon, just wait and see.

It is probably green because it is the prototype colour. I wouldn't place any emphasis on the colour because this is only a formal launching of the program. The important thing is that it flies within the required parameters, on it's first flight without any major dramas.

They're already buying the second batch of AMRAAM's. I assume they're merely buying them in small batches as long as their defense budget allows.

> U.S. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE > Contract

Personally I think they should be investing in more PGM's since it's almost always a more pressing need around here.

The color is actually different with the previous photo I posted. I am quite satisfied with this color though :)

This is the first photo of the launching available online. I hope more photos will come. Yup I am agree on you, its flight performance is the most important thing at this current phase.

Here is more photos on the MALE UAV. The landing gear is still using the stationary one for this first prototype. There is not clear about the name of this drone. I also havent seen any online publication writing about this launching but maybe Tomorrow there will be some news about it. I also expect Jane Defense to write about this drone soon. There are already many news previously talking about this drone specification but more information I hope can be gathered during this event by journalists.

From Antara news agency. Well if Antara already put it, it close to official one.

BPPT-PT DI buat tiga lagi prototipe pesawat nirawak MALE hingga 2024

Four prototypes all in development stages with 24-30 hrs of operations and 300 kg capacity in the wing. One thing for sure on development of any UAV is whose have access to the control system. In here the control system developed by PT. LEN, thus provide more local independent.

This is from BPPT sites:

Increasingly, Indonesia is developing interesting sovereign capabilities that show the scale of ambition not seen with many other ASEAN states. Keep up the good work and the most complex part is the GCS software that determines capability.

Thank you for the update.

I believe the administration found no other choice, but to developed defense articles independently as far as local resources can. We can't rely with imports all the way, cause it will increase our trade deficit. Even with 'local' development, some 'parts' will always come from import, but at least reduce import dependency some what.

Bakamla eyes coordinated response to Chinese activity in the Natunas

This action from China in SCS part of North Natuna sea shown however how much Trade we have with China, in someway they can't be 100% trusted. They say that they don't have interlocking claimed with Indonesian territory, but still they continue testing our reaction in Natuna sea. We are not in possition to match Chinese Coast Guard and PLAN on one by one development. Still when some of us in banking being invited with TNI-AL on their development plan (since they need local Banks support) a coleuge of mine from State Owned banks told that long term plan of TNI-AL is to have abilities to 'close' match PLAN southern fleet.

In their thinking PLAN Eastern and Nothern fleet is Taiwan, Japan, and ROK problem. This in the scenario if USN did not come, and the rest of Asia (East and southeast) have to handle China by themselves.

Its not that we cant trust the chinese for a full 100%....its just a fact that we totally can not trust these guys, just 100% unreliable. Their fleet expansions, fortified artificial islands, and also in the past they illegally fish in our ZEE...all of this shows that they do not respect the borders of other countries.

But thanks to Communist China, our politicians wake up, realizing we have to spend more money on defence and coast guard.

Here is from the rolling out event. According to BPPT director the second prototype will be made in 2020 and the prototype will undergo first flight in the same year according to the plan. This is a program from Minister of research and technology since almost all of the development cost so far are burdened by this ministry. This also show how bad our previous defense minister is because with huge budget they got and how relatable this program is with his ministry, he didnt spent much on the program, even with huge increase in 2020 budget, this program is still entirely financed by BPPT budget. From BPPT website we also know that LAPAN (space agency) is included in the program starting from 2019. I think LAPAN is included to develop SAR radar for this drone.

This is also a good program to transfer knowledge from experience PTDI designers into BPPT UAV designers as BPPT website also said that PTDI supervises the design works conducted by BPPT. This is the first time BPPT ever design a huge UAV so quite understandable if PTDI is still needed for supervisory role.

The drone name is Elang Hitam or Black Eagle. Minister of Research and Technology who give the name.
