The T-90 is an auto-loader, which means it has a lower profile and will be a bit harder to hit. this also means it will have a higher-rate of fire.
In favor of the Abrams, I believe that the ballistics for the 120 mm gun are superior to the 125 mm Russian gun. so, if the Abrams gets the chance to fire first, it will probably win.
however, if for some reason the Abrams doesn't score a lethal hit with the first shot (which I find kinda hard to imagine) the T90 will probably do better the longer the fight goes on.
but here's my question-- given that the T90 is only an incremental redesign of the T72 (which the Abrams has never really had THAT much trouble with) if they fight each other openly, the Abrams will win.
40 km apart isn't going to give the T90 the chance to dig in, which would almost guarantee a victory for it.
Well, is 40 km too short? I would think that the T-90's laser guided missiles would make this a more or less comfortable range of battle.
And auto-loaders being faster is a myth. Human loaders are quicker.
