It's quite possible to see as many as 10 Yasen's. But I do have my doubts about new a sub. Then again the timeframe is a bit too big to judge.

To be honest, most claims being made from the russian military lately about new programmes just seem so unbelievable, first there was the six carrier battle groups, 8 Borei's, thousands of helicopters, hundreds of new fast jets and now this; 8 attack subs is an awful lot to build in 10 years unless you're a super power and I may be stating the obvious but Russia is not the Soviet Union, where is the money coming for all this?

Well the 8 Borei's may well become a reality. There's 2 nearing completion at the moment, another one being built. A thousand helicopters over 10 years isn't impossible either. I'd be surprised to see it happen, but several hundred will get purchased.

There are 3-4 more launches supposed to happen over this summer. If the results are fully positive, I suspect they will push through to service entry.

It looks like the Nakhimov modernization is due to start at Sevmash soon, with Lazarev and Ushakov to follow. It will be interesting to see if a navalized S-400 is included in the upgrade.

Interesting. Would be a powerfull sight to see all the cruisers back in service.

Edit: Looks like we are seing a large rebuild of the Russian Pacfic Fleet. Several large units has been anounched to be joining the Fleet in the next coming years.
The first Borei class submarines, the first 2 Mistral class Amfp warships, I sew a news just the other day that one of the Slava class cruisers from the Northen Fleet would be relocate to the PF. And now this Kirov cruiser will join as well.

Well the Pacific Fleet has been inappropriately weak in the last decade. I think the decision to strengthen it is correct, especially given the rise of China.

Well they could sell it in exchange for forgiving some of those gas debts. Or they could hand it over for free under the condition that the completion work, modernization, and upgrading are done at a Ukranian shipyard. In fact the second would likely be accepted by Russia.

It appears the Russian defence force is having trouble with wages and spending to replace aging equipment in a timely manner. A conscript defence force is also impacting on the rest of the social system with universities not willing to accept people who have missed time gap in education due to conscription. The amount dedicated to defence is set to rise to approx 3.3% of GDP with wages increasing how much more increase can Russia afford to rebuild. Looks set to become a professional service in the years ahead which would be a good thing better to have someone who wants to be there and not have to be there.
