I'd imagine a press-release along with a nice photo-shoot will be on KnAAPO's site in the next few days. I mean now that they have a clip on youtube, there's no use hiding it anymore. I mean this flight literally took place a few hours ago. I'd give it sometime.

How realistic do you think the RCS claims are? And I mean this not in regards to the few seconds glimpse of the new fighter, but in regards to your assessment of the state of Russian aviation industry in that regard.

Additionally, how tactically significant do you think the RCS reduction is?

The video is of the taxi tests... look at the 0:16 mark (nose wheel on ground), then nose comes up, then back down again.

Agreed

I'm a skeptic when it comes to RCS claims - mainly because unless its been pole tested then its means that its going to be chamber based - and thats a limitation in its own right. I have zero confidence in anyone who claims numbers by looking at an artifact without any technical material going into that decision.

RCS is significant, because the lower you can physically manage it the greater the design energy that gets put into e-management issues.

garbage in - garbage out applies to RCS management. the dirtier the inherent design, the more effort has to be made to clean it up electronically - and that detracts from critical operational cycles (processing)

My view is that people who trivialise the benefit of RCS usually fail to understand its importance in the overall capability design. It is still a fundamental construct

The RCS claims are considered semi-official. Hence why I was wondering what you made of them.

PS, these are indeed the taxi run test videos. Not todays flight test, I am sure the Russian media is photo shopping things in and out of the flight videos now...
Sukhoi website has a article in Russian with photographs.

The high res image shows the optical location system, both inlets seem to be at different angles with space between them and the plane (variable?) several control surfaces are visible.

Seems like a lot of CGIs coming out of Russia were kind of accurate.

I'm still confused regarding Russian 5th gen fighter project. Is this the same plane as the one in joint development with India? Or does Russia have two 5th gen projects going on at the same time? I was under the impression that the one Russia plans to induct is different than the one in development with India.

Similar to the situation with the Su-35 and Su-30MKI projects, except the level of technology involved is much closer. Basically there will be a derivative of the PAK-FA that will be a two-seater and for the IAF. While the single seater will be for the VVS. India will manufacture 25% of the stuff for it, and from the looks of it that 25% will also apply to the VVS variant.

Additionally, the current news rumors are that VVS will get 200 single seat and 50 double seat, while IAF gets 200 double seat and 50 single seat.

I see the IRST Sensor pod on the nose left side of the canopy -- what I don't see is a refueling system, perhaps its internally hidden, or not yet on the prototype.

I uploaded the video from TV1 Good shot of the airplane's belly.

Cheers
