I heard that there may be the chance that they will sell some of them to the new Iraqi Army. So will Poland be content with 360 MBT`s or do they plan on getting additional LEO`s.Polish tanks in service:
T-72 – 586
PT-91 – 232
Leopard 2A4 – 128
By 2009-2011 all T-72 are going to be scraped.
Weeellll . . .. . . sort of. A few orders of magnitude more European than any Arab country. Less European than Greece. Rather less European than Bulgaria or Romania. But it gets confusing when we start thinking of Albania, which is undoubtedly in Europe, but in many ways is less European than Turkey.Does Europeans really view Turkey as part of Europe.

You would think there would be a definite answer after 200 yearsDoes Europeans really view Turkey as part of Europe.
My God, what do you mean "who knows"?Our new chief of staff is a tanker and former commander of Armd Cav Div. In his first interview he said that heavy forces will be still the most important part of Polish Army. So who knows...
Whom is Poland going to use these on?The Leo IIA4s could easiliy be upgraded with everything Poland needs giving them a certain growth potential in terms of capabilities.
How lucky is that to have a Chief of staff who is a tanker, what is your feelings in regards to the PT91, are they going to upgrade them to PT91M.
Some T-72 are waiting for customers, but I did hear nothing about selling them to Iraq
Content? For sure not! (in 2007 Russia is planning to buy 220 T-90, and claims that NATO and USA are the most probable enemies in regular war, source - today’s issue of Polish's edition Newsweek). Unfortunately I heard nothing about buying new or "new" tanks. I heard rumors that army is going to make comparison test between Leo 2A4 and PT-91M. Our new chief of staff is a tanker and former commander of Armd Cav Div. In his first interview he said that heavy forces will be still the most important part of Polish Army. So how knows...
I don’t think that we will see new tank in the newest future, now we are introducing 690 AMV, ~260 Spikes and there are plans to buy 48 Krab (SPA), 36 Loara-A (SPAA), Shilkas and Osas are undergoing modernization, new communications and command systems are being introduced and so on…http://www.defencetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4639&page=4
I agree with you there, and everyone wonders why the Turks have been taking a harder line towards Europe. You would think there would be a definite answer after 200 years
Okay - how many LEO`s have you guy`s stashed away. Our Chieff of Staff is also a tanker and look what they did to our armored forces...
Target - ceasefire, you got me there.Because a harder line towards the middle east is not very interesting if it comes to business.
It`s enough to break a true tankers heart. From 2125 Leopard IIs produced for the Bundeswehr between 350 and 400 will remain active in the units, as OPFOR and on the school.
Those have been sold.
-160 (Sweden)
-108 (Spain)
- 57 (Denmark)
-128 (Poland)
-124 (Finland)
-183 (Greece)
-298 (Turkey)
-118 (Chile)
- 96 (Singapore)
So there should be 453 Leo II in our deopts read for reserve or for being sold.
I really don't know if any are planned to remain as reserves but I would wonder if not if just for the spares.
So our tank forces degenrated from 185 active and non-active bns at the end of cold war to 6 active and 0 non-active bns.
And this doesn't includes the east german tank units also de-activated.
So round about we lost more than 5000 tanks and 360.000 active soldiers in 15 years.
For defence against a possible future Russiand threat.
Against countries which come under attack during operations like the gulf wars, the Kosovo campaign, etc.
