Jet wash signage ?I'm surprised that some of the more excitable advocates for JSF jumpers haven't been revved up about the writing on the side of the islands onHMAS Adelaide and HMAS Canberra.....

yep, got it in oneJet wash signage ?
Thanks 'SouthernSky' I'll try attaching a JPG showing this sign (uploaded to the ADFserials.com website by 'FlyCookie' but since deleted? It was on this thread:It says rotor wash not jet wash.
will have to double check when I get back to work - as I'm pretty sure I saw forward on HMAS Canberra the jet wash warning - it was on the internal web site so can't check from a non work computerIt says rotor wash not jet wash.
The barracuda is vapourware - it suffers from the same problems that people have conveniently sheeted home to collins in the last 15 years - ie scaled up and re-engined is a non trivial exerciseI would suggest that the Shortfin Barracuda can't be classified as a vapourware as it is based on the existing Barracuda but a scaled down version. The Japanese Soryu would need to scale up for an Australianised Soryu ("Goryu").
The Type 216 is probably a "scaled up" derivative version of Type 214/218 anyway, so a semi-vapourware. If anything, this is the only real "paper sub".
We just got our 2 new LHD's in the water, we're not the right customer for this opportunity. Sure someone out there could use it though. To my mind someone like the Royal Canadian Navy would be more in need.Hi all, just read somewhere HMS Ocean will soon be decomissioned from RN service. Any chance of RAN picking this beauty up as well? I guess it is remote, but just wondering if you good folks think there could be an off chance that RAN gets a third LHD real quick opportunistically.
HMS Ocean is an LPH, not an LHD (no dock!) and will be 25 years old in 2018. I don't think we'd much want it given that the cost of refitting a middle aged ship for a role we haven't yet defined on the off chance of getting a bargain is not a good way to make these decisions.Hi all, just read somewhere HMS Ocean will soon be decomissioned from RN service. The Dutch supply ship Karel Doorman would make a good fit for the RCN (and RNZN) pity they are keeping her now.HMS Ocean is an LPH, not an LHD (no dock!) and will be 25 years old in 2018. When we bought RFA Largs Bay (HMAS Choules) we were desperate for ANY amphibious capability, she was cheap and almost new. Despite some unforeseen costs she now fills one of the sealift spots we already needed to fill.

We don't have enough helicopters to fill the combined need's of the land based forces, 2 LHD's, 1 LPD and all the FFH's, FFG's and DDG's, Acquiring an LPH would probably have a negative effect on our operations.Hi all, just read somewhere HMS Ocean will soon be decomissioned from RN service. The Japanese are a lot closer to spec than anyone else. The other proposals are pretty much power point right now.So that's no-one then? Even the Japanese sub needs massive changes to meet the published requirements.

and thats the worry, as all these tame journos and pollies that have been wined, dined and feted will white ant any proposal that doesn't reflect the last big jolly that they've been onThe Japanese are a lot closer to spec than anyone else. The other proposals are pretty much power point right now.

In regards to its age where oldsig mention it being 25 years old in 2018, Is the age of a ship from when it is first laid down (1994 for HMS Ocean, So 25 years old in 2019) or from when it is first commissioned? I always thought it was from commissioning in which case she still has a good decade of life in her, Possibly two.. But I could be wrong.
I imagine Canada, India and Brazil will all have a look at her.
Me too, but the RN had already decided she was for the chop in 2018 several years ago, then extended her to fill in for the decommissioned carriers while waiting on QE. Whether she's 23 or 25 is hardly material; it's still at least a half life expended ship unless we want to risk pouring money into an increasingly elderly hull we don't actually need.I always thought it was from commissioning in which case she still has a good decade of life in her, Possibly two.. Their primary tasking is to be a floating B1 (ie HQJOC) - and to act as an extension of B1keeping the LHD free for there primary tasking.
