The delay is in green lighting the operational testing program. Which are the combat simulations and the like. Apparently because the VSI HMD is not up to a standard for operational testing and the alternate BAE HMD won’t be ready until 2014. All of this is fair enough as the HMD is a crucial part of the F-35’s combat capability and operational testing without it won’t be indicative of anything like the in service capability. Would be like starting operational testing of an F-15 or any other fourth generation fighter without a working HUD.Really... they just now are noticing the green glow?
Odds are that since most of the big issues are being addressed that they are now nitpicking the minor stuff.

The "more problems" line is just an invention of the media outlet's sub-editor. Someone too ignorant and undisciplined to realise just what a misleading statement it is.
The panoramic display can sub for the HMD for this purpose, right?HMD not ready until 2014? Do they have to wait until then to implement the operational test program?
Todays Air Force Magazine Daily Report, 10/05/12, shows two production F-35Bs being refueled by a KC-130j, flying out of the school house at Eglin on 10/02/12, notable because they are the first F35bs and they are also "production" coded or operational aircraft, the Lightening ll is moving right along in meeting many of its current objectives, and reports are that USAF testing is coming along quite nicely. What do you make of the grill? Is it a grill - hard to make out on my screen.I see the first jets from LRIP 4, have now taken off. Notice the grill covering the internal gun on the F-35A below?
First time I've seen that, I think...
