Those ideas were part of the A21 (Army - 21st century) trials which occurred in the mid-lat 1990's.ASLAV + TOW missile trials. Any ideas what became of it? Lack of armoured threats? TOW missile are pretty much obselete but a Javelin would be nice.

Story I heard re the 120mm AMS was that the government of the day was looking into acquiring ~22 such systems. When army heard this they decided that the money would be better spent in Land 17 on SPGs instead.snip
The ASLAV-AMS (armoured mortar system) was subsequently cancelled in 2004 and replaced by the M1A1 acquisition project.
.
It is my recollection that the SPG's were already planned before the 120mm AMS project was cancelled, but it could be old age creeping in....Story I heard re the 120mm AMS was that the government of the day was looking into acquiring ~22 such systems. I have no link for that, just hearsay.
I've subsequently wondered what an (armoured) mobile, breech loaded 120mm mortar system would bring to the table for the ADF given the move to a 155mm arty backbone for the army, given the expense involved to even acquire 20 odd 120mm units.
Do you know if army is still interested in such?
Oh yes, I'm sure the SPGs were already planned, my point was that Army suspected that if the 120mm mortar project went ahead, funding for Land 17 might be decreased. It is my recollection that the SPG's were already planned before the 120mm AMS project was cancelled, but it could be old age creeping in....
Army definitely doesn't seem too interested in such a capability, if they ever were. It seemed to me a WTF? moment when they were announced, because Army had decided against the A21 concept and the "vast" new fleets of ASLAV's that were going to be required never eventuated.
I always got the feeling it was a political "special" without any real interest from Army. Certainly it's replacement mortar project is only aimed at acquiring a new 81mm tube and ammunition capability...
Word on the street the Germans are testing them and the Australian defence force have nothing to do with the tests,. the ADF have just spent a heap on the production of the new Hawkei which is due to roll in early 2011-2012. And the Boxer is much like our Bushmasters and with the succes from the in afgan and iraq there is no need to update them just yet.Apparently the German Army is testing the Boxer armoured vehicle, the Weisel reconnaisance vehilce and the Mikado mini-unmanned aerial craft, at Woomera shortly. Would our army be interested in any of these?
ADF have spent nothing on Hawkei. Its a vendor sponsored program with no project oversight or money from the Govt.the ADF have just spent a heap on the production of the new Hawkei which is due to roll in early 2011-2012.
I would hazard a guess that along with 5 other countries, they are out there testing their gear. We lease the facilities to friendlies for various progs.Apparently the German Army is testing the Boxer armoured vehicle, the Weisel reconnaisance vehilce and the Mikado mini-unmanned aerial craft, at Woomera shortly. Do these friendlies share Technical information with the ADF on what vehicles/uav/missile systems meet there requirements...I would hazard a guess that along with 5 other countries, they are out there testing their gear. We lease the facilities to friendlies for various progs.
eg there are armoured vehicles, UAV's and missile tests conducted by various friendlies in that loc

Supplemental. M3 variants of the Charlie G have been in-service for some time in parts of ADF (ADgies, specwarries and deployed elements)...New portable missile system for Australian army | The Australian
"New portable missile system for Australian army
THE army has upgraded its anti-armour capability with the signing of contracts today for a new-generation portable missile system.
The $10.5 million contract with Sweden's Bofors Dynamics supplies the latest model M3 Carl Gustaf 84mm rockets and launchers, Defence Personnel, Materiel and Science Minister Greg Combet said.
''These new weapons provide an increased direct fire support capability and will be employed by the infantry, special forces and RAAF airfield defence guards," Mr Combet said.
``Soldiers will appreciate the weight savings afforded by the M3 Carl Gustaf anti-armour weapon,'' he said.
The anti-armour missile system is currently in use with several other armies including those of the US, Sweden, Austria, Canada and Germany.

erk - missile system I'm not so sure, but then again, maybe I'm being pedantic. Use of the word missile, to my mind, implies some form of guidance inherent in the system.
That aside - does this mean that the previous versions of charlie gutsache are to be retired, or is this acqusition supplemental?

Hang in there. I know how frustrating things can get. Stay focused on where you want to be and you will get there. It was a real mess in my case. I had my JOES day and initial interview and it then took almost 2 years to get to enlistment (in fact it will be 2.5 year process from the first contact to enlistment..). It was only my committment to my grand grandad's legecy in the Army that kept me focused (if he could charge the germans through heavy fog from the trenches then I sure as hell can muster up the patience to deal with DFR...)Ive also been informed that i should have had my interview in January which they put off and told me it would be in march now there not contacting me til march which .
Thanks for that, Im really looking forward to joining and excited about the training, I just want dates for my interview medical etc so i can orgainze my life, im sick of my current and only hanging in here until i know when im in. Ive got my heart set on it and research it every day. But thanks for the heads up, since my first contact its coming up to 8mths so its been a long time. I think the reason being they havent had an intake for telecommunications tech just yet and have been told it could be in the new financial year so fingers cross they call me in march, or ill call them.Hang in there. Bare in mind my experience was with Navy not Army. I remember chatting to a coppa (Special Ops Group) at my joes day and we got on well and he was telling me he was told he would be 'fast tracked' into commando. I have no idea what 'fast tracked' meant but my experience is that the amount of time you wait varies wildly for all sorts of reasons.
You just have to sit tight, suck it up and never look back once you get in.
I hope you join and good luck!
No worries mate. Sounds like you will hit the ground running when you come onboard. Thanks for that,
word of advice, hassle them! nothing shits off recruiters more then a guy who constantly rings for updates, remember in the major cities these guys deal with over 50-100 people every month getting them into a job, if you keep asking, they will hurry up to get rid of you...Thanks for that, Im really looking forward to joining and excited about the training, I just want dates for my interview medical etc so i can orgainze my life, im sick of my current and only hanging in here until i know when im in. It took 12mths from failure for OSB to getting to Cerberus even though i told them the day after get me there now and ill go the long road up to the top. For 9mths i called who ever had been palmed my app, and lucky for me my cousin was a recruiter for army at DFR Newcastle, so he'd get updates for me as well, yeah still took forever.:frownDidnt work for me....
Although I think the sub entry delays had more to do with training pipelines perhaps I dont know.
I remember getting specifically told not to call again for 2 weeks because they wouldnt have any more info. So I must be been giving them the complete s%^ts by that stage.
