PAF to manufacture parts for Boeing

Islamabad, May 10: Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has said that it would start manufacturing parts for us-based aircraft giant Boeing from next month which would enable it to formally join the club of aviation parts makers.

Air Marshal Aurengzeb, Chief of Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), Kamra, which was poised to manufacture JF-17 fighter developed jointly by Pakistan and China, told the media yesterday that Boeing aircraft co has set up a parts manufacturing unit in PAC.

PAC is the manufacturing unit of the PAF.

"At this factory through Boeing offset programme, we shall be manufacturing aviation parts for Boeing 747, 767 and 777 aircraft," the official news agency quoted Aurengzeb as saying.

"Around 20 parts of Boeing aircraft would be manufactured here for the Boeing company which has set up parts manufacturing plant as part of the agreement for supply of 777 aircraft to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)," said another senior officer of PAC during a visit to the under-installation plant unit, the news agency reported.

He said parts of Boeing would be manufactured here and sent to the company for their onward sale and supply.

The technicians of Boeing are working on the installation of the plant which would be completed by end this month and would start production from next month, the official said.

A couple of years back PIA had placed orders for supply of eight 777 series aircraft. Some of these aircraft are included in PIA's fleet while the rest would be inducted in the days ahead.

Attachement removed. You attached image has nothing to do with your query or the topic. It's an irrelevant screenshot of another forum. I suspect this was a simple uploading mistake on your part, so if you do have the correct picture please feel free to upload it instead.

US ready to supply UAV ScanEagle to Pakistan: Official
By Sajjad Malik

ISLAMABAD: The US is ready to provide the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) ScanEagle to Pakistan to improve its reconnaissance capacity, US Under Secretary of Defence Michele Flournoy said on Tuesday.

Flournoy was talking to reporters at the end of her two-day visit to Pakistan.

The under secretary’s comments came ahead of an offer by US Defence Secretary Robert Gates, who earlier announced to provide the UAV Shadow, drawing criticism from local media who said the technology was obsolete.

Flournoy said the US wanted to build a strategic partnership with Pakistan and discussed ways to develop new relations. She said the US was offering support to Pakistan in various sectors to help it overcome its problems.

She acknowledged the existence of a trust deficit between the two countries, but hoped the two sides would succeed in bridging gaps by working closely.

“Our action will speak louder than words and by helping Pakistan
and its people, we will be able to overcome the anti-American sentiments here. But it will take some time,” she added.

The under secretary said the US was providing F-16 aircraft to Pakistan and had set up the Counterinsurgency Capacity Building Fund worth $1 billion for the country. She said the US had also provided over $7 billion from the Coalition Support Fund to the country since the war on terror began in 2001.

She said the release of more aid under the fund had been delayed owing to delay in issuance of visas to the US embassy staff, adding that the funds would be provided once this issue was resolved.

First Squadron of JF-17 Thunder inducted in PAF :smilie
ISLAMABAD, Feb 18 (APP): Another major milestone was achieved when the first Squadron of JF-17 Thunder formally joined fighter aircraft fleet of Pakistan Air Force on Thursday.A ceremony for the formal induction of JF-17 Thunder aircraft was held at one of the PAF’s operational bases. Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force was chief guest on the occasion.

The Chief of the Air Staff addressing the Airmen congratulated the nation and the PAF personnel on the momentous occasion.
“The formal induction of JF-17 aircraft in the PAF is in line with our resolve to face all challenges with poise and self-confidence. The PAF has invested in the force multipliers like the Air-to-Air refuellers, UAVs and AEW&C aircraft to enhance our capacity and capability to undertake complex operations,” he said.
“ These new state-of-the-art inductions make it imperative that we train hard and prepare well to induct and integrate the new systems professionally and safely. The achievements of PAF leave no doubt in my mind that we are immensely capable and, as a team, can set and achieve still higher standards”.
“We are a peaceful nation with no aggressive designs and want to maintain peace with honour in our region. We are inducting new systems to keep pace with technology and maintain credible conventional balance of force, without which peace cannot be ensured in South Asia,” he said.
He said that the JF-17 would be put through its paces in the forthcoming Exercise Hi-Mark 2010.
The ‘JF-17 Thunder’ has the capability to undertake entire spectrum of offensive as well as defensive missions. By joining the elite ranks of PAF, the JF-17 would not only enhance the combat readiness of PAF but also form its back-bone in future.
The ceremony culminated when an A-5-III fighter led three JF-17 Thunder aircraft in a flypast following which a single JF-17 performed aerobatics over the venue.

US to Deliver Laser-Guided Bomb Kits to Pakistan

* US Air Force secretary says arms sale in response to Pakistani air chief’s request
* Islamabad to receive 18 new F-16s

WASHINGTON: The US will deliver 1,000 laser-guided bomb kits to Islamabad this month and is considering additional arms sales to help the Pakistan Air Force crack down on insurgents in the Afghan border region.

US Air Force Secretary Michael Donley told reporters on Tuesday the arms sales came in response to a request made by the Pakistan air chief in December.

“There continues to be a dialogue back and forth,” Donley said, noting that the US government had already agreed to sell Pakistan munitions and night vision goggles, and was also stepping up training.

New jets: Pakistan is also expected to receive new F-16 fighters made by Lockheed Martin Corp this spring or summer, Donley said, noting that the fighter jets would give the Pakistan Air Force greatly expanded capabilities in its fight against “radical elements” in the border region.

Lockheed spokeswoman Laurie Quincy said the first of the 18 F-16s ordered by Pakistan was accepted by the Pakistani government in December but was still completing preparations to be ferried to the country later this year.

Air Force spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Jeffry Glenn said the US delivered 1,000 MK-82 500-pound bombs to Pakistan last month, and was considering additional requests for those bombs and more laser-guided tail kits.

Glenn said an initial batch of 700 GBU-12 and 300 GBU-10 Paveway laser-guided bomb kits built by Lockheed and Raytheon Co would be delivered to Pakistan this month, allowing the country’s air force to outfit the MK-82 bombs delivered last month with sophisticated technology that allows better targeting of the weapons. Donley said Pakistan was also upgrading the capabilities of its older F-16 fighter jets. Reuters

Different, for different uses. Scan Eagle is much smaller than the RQ-7 Shadow.

PAF to launch ‘Exercise High Mark’ next week

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) will launch its countrywide “Exercise High Mark-2010”, from next week to test its professional skills and capabilities.

Defence sources say that this kind of exercise is held after every five years and involves all aerial frontiers and bases from across the country, including the latest missile and firepower of the country.

“The exercise would continue for 40 days and, for the first time, the JF-17 Thunder will also participate in the exercise, in addition to F-16s and other fighter planes,” the sources said, adding that it would be entirely an internal activity and no foreign nation would be invited to participate in it.

It is the main peacetime activity and will cover the entire country from Skardu in the north to the Arabian Sea in the south.

The exercise would also involve the army and naval contingents to show an integrated approach to deal with any eventuality in the time of war.

It would include joint operations with extensive participation from the army and navy, which would further enhance cooperation amongst the three forces.

‘Pakistan negotiating for 14 more F-16s with US’
* PAF chief says 18 F-16s with BVR missile systems to join PAF from June
* Existing F-16s will be upgraded in Turkey

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) will start getting a lot of 18 latest version F-16 fighting falcon aircrafts fitted with Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missile system by June this year, Chief of Air Staff Rao Qamar Suleman said on Saturday.

Briefing reporters on the on-going High Mark-2010 Exercise by PAF in collusion with the Pakistan Army and the Pakistan Navy, the air chief said the delivery of the aircrafts to Pakistan would complete by the end of the current year.

He said, in addition to 18 F-16s, Pakistan had also been negotiating to get another lot of 14 aircraft of the same version, besides getting other modern gadgets and weapons.

“Our wish list is unending, but we are proceeding with a realistic approach,” he said, adding that JF-17 Thunder, which was developed with Chinese help, had been producing much better results than expectations.

He said the existing lot of F-16s in the PAF inventory would be upgraded to the level of Block 52 series in Turkey and the project would be completed by 2014.

When his attention was drawn towards the Indian doctrine of carrying out surgical strikes in the wake of Mumbai attacks, the PAF chief said the air force had immediately developed a strategy to counter the threat.

“Our response time during such situations is from 2 to 6 minutes from the ground,” he said, adding that said knowing the capability of the PAF, the adversary did not dare take any step.

He said the PAF had already been using Unarmed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology for reconnaissance purposes while it hardly needs to go for armed aerial vehicle.

He said the coalition forces hardly commit any violations of Pakistan’s airspace while Islamabad had always strongly protested in case of any airspace violation by coalition forces in Afghanistan. APP

So that makes it 42 + 18 + 14 = 74 in active service eventually?
