I am aware of the upgrades for the algerian T-90s.
Ok, maybe I used the wrong words. I was just concentrating onto the designation of export T-90s.

Every T-90 coming out of Russia is going to be a T-90S.
I expect every future customer to get a new designation with additional letters like the T-90SA for Algeria.
For example a T-90SG if Georgia would order some T-90s (Yeah, I know how unlikely it is...;)).

The T-90S for India are not named T-90SI because they were the first customer.

I hope my new post doesn't add additonal confusion. :shudder

So the statement by the journalist that the new batch of Indian T-90 is going to be T-90M is bullshìt? He says (for those who didn't read the text :D) that the 347 new tanks are more expensive per-unit than the 310 first tanks because they will be T-90M instead of T-90S, which according to him, is an "extensive upgrade".

I do not know if Russia will give each country a designation, I guess we will just have to waite and see who the next purchaser is and see how Russia handles that transaction. I was told that the main reason why Russia gave Algerian T-90s that designation was because of the additional upgrades over the Indian model.:)

India is not getting any T-90s with a M or A designation, these are pure Russian army designations, they will be T-90S models. as far as upgrades, they are supposed to be getting APUs and AC units, I do not believe that they have decided on a countermeasure package as of yet. :)

Tamanskaya and Kantemirovsakaya will fully equiped with T-90A till the end of 2010 if I remember right. It's like 400 tanks. 2005-31 tank, 2006-31, 2007-31, 2008 - 62. It means 2009-2010 they must to produce 250 tanks. It's very possible for UVZ. As I calculated above, the financial plans suppose 150-250 tanks a year for Russian forces in near future. :D
So until the end of '10 they still have some UD's left in service.

Are these some of your buddies.:D. I wish that my country would let civilians drive around and get the feel of a maingun busting some caps. All the glory dury a war comes in the form of armored warfare, not being a fighter jock or a captain of a ship and as soon as civilians see this then we will get to walk around with chips on our shoulders.:eek:nfloorl:

Is that a bad thing to keep T-80 UDs around.
No. I'm just trying to get the makeup of the armored units straight in my mind. I hope they start re-arming something other then the Moscow MD sometime soon. (Yes I am aware that the modernized Flankers are deployed to the Far East).

I believe that you will see T-80UDs around for quite awhile, is it true in order for these units to preserve their T-80UDs that they actually use T-80BVs for gunnery and field exercises. I was informed that the T-80BVs are in excellant condition and were part of stored war stocks.

I've heard some thing to this end. I don't have any definite info. I'll see if I can find anything on it for you.

Would be a pretty good idea. I expect spare parts from the Ukraine might be a little bit expensive, especially when one has nearly new T-80BV in your warehouses.

@Eckherl
The US army has no open base days where some civilians can drive around with the tracks (I mean as a passenger at the loaders station)?
We also have some civil companies here in Germany where one can drive around (This time as a driver) with old T-55s, BMPs and some other stuff.
This sort of stuff gets more and more popular here.

We have never done this due to liability issues in the event someone gets hurt. I did have one exception though inregards to a child that had a terminal illness, he was part of the Make A Wish Foundation here in the U.S, his wish was to actually get on a tank and have a look around. I spent the whole entire day driving him around, giving him a tour of the motorpool and letting him practice shooting in the UCOFT, afterwords we gave him a battalion coin and a certificate making him a member of our unit, his mother and father told me that they had not seen brightness with the likes that where in his eyes that day, I was quite pleased with the U.S Army that they would do this.

I wish though that they would start doing this in my country, there are private collectors throughout the country that do conduct this with older equipment. I was told that in Ukraine you can actually go out and pay to shoot a tank or ride in a fighter, that would be neat for the average civilian.:)

Shooting with a tank? Wow, I mean this is something totally different to just drive around in them. Just to get all the necessary permissions (Ok it's Ukraine, a big chunk of € should help...). And it should be expensive as hell. :)

Maybe the Indian DRDO should start a marketing tour with the first Arjuns coming out of the factory.
Let some children take a ride, let some adults play with the turret and simulators, crunsh a car and dome some pritty fireworks like in a dog and pony show.

Maybe opinion switches towards the Arjun. ;)

I would be more than happy to pick up a Arjun and tank crew and give it a 30 day trial. Then they could hand over a T-90S and let me evaluate that to, I promise that I would be very fair on my findings.:D

You'll post all the results for us to see, right? :)

Oh and I didn't find anything on T-80UD trainings. It would make sense that they use teh BV's instead, but then again with most of the UD's being retired over the next few years, it's probably a non-issue.

Are there any differences between T-80UD and T-80BV regarding crew operation? I mean would a gunner have to do anything different in a T-80UD than he would have to in a T-80BV?

Yes, they have different FC system, different sights and different ATGM's. I dont know however in details how both system operate, so cant say if the difference is very large or not.

The biggest issue would be the gunners sighting system for adverse or night time conditions, you will notice that BV still uses a IR searchlight.
