Welcome.
We don't have enough people here from Africa so it is always good to see some new ones joining.
May I ask from which country in Africa you are?

Welcome Hamptot,

The site is generally fairly straightforward if one is interested in participating on the forums. There are a few overall forum categories like Land Forces, Military Aviation or Naval Forces for example. Depending on ones area of interest, either in terms of questions of information, the category is usually what would be used to determine where to go. For instance, if you are an airplane buff, then you would likely be most interested in Military Aviation. Therefore you would select the appropriate category and view the list of current/most recent posts in that cateogory. If you have some specific questions, then make use of the search function to see if they have already been brought up or discussed in either a current or past thread. By all means read through the different threads to see if there is anything you like.

Mind the forum rules and enjoy!

Hello everybody,

Name's Karl and I am currently in the Brit Army looking to transfer to the ADF. I've always been interested in warfare and foreign affairs so I figured I'd give this a try.

Hi Waylander,

Thanks for your welcome. I am originally from Nigeria. And I have been trying to catch up on some of the interesting and informative postings here. This forum is a very good resource.

Cheers,
Uche

Hmm, I somehow managed to miss this thread.:bum
I recently turned 17, live in Vingåker, Sweden, and Simon is the name. My interest in military was probably born when I was around 13 and my dad bought me an F-14 model (yes, I broke it:( ). I thought I knew more than most people regarding military, but I was quickly proven wrong when I came here.:p:

From what I have found out from people in the Aussie navy (which I will be joining soon) and recruiters is that tats are ok as long as they are non offensive and not on the neck and face, though if somebody had full sleeve tats and legs done they may run into some problems. But I saw a lot of ratings at HMAS Cerberus with tats on the forearm. I am sure others like Mc Taff or Aussie Digger will know a lot more than me.

New guy, here

Hello. My name is Charles, I'm 73, retired USN. Enlisted in 1951, was an
AL (Aviation Radioman) then changed to RM (Radioman), retired in '71. Got
married in '55. I am very fortunate, I have flown in aircraft that most people
only read about. We had B-17's, A-20's, B-25's, B-26's and other aircraft
in a Composite Squadron I was attached to. Also flew in a B-36. My
Naval career was filled with goodies (exchange duty to USAF and USA),
as well as the bad times. Spent 11 months in Nam with a Korean Army outfit.
I enjoy building rubber powered balsa/tissue models and raising Japanese
maples. I have over 400 of them ! Hope to get involved in some good
discussions. Thanks Aviator for pointing me in this direction.

Charles

Howdy,

Spent the last 3 years in the Australian Army. ECN273, can't really talk much about work but happy to read the views of various others. I'm especially keen for my first overseas trip next year, however, the missus certainly isn't.

Cheers,
TG.
