i think the Rafael are just too expensive, if the Saudis who are interested in it would purchase it in a combined deal, then the French may be willing to bring down the price per-Unit, then it might be a viable option.80 mill per-piece is just too expensive. then there are spares and other logistical expenses during the Life of the AC.

i think its 4th -8th of jully, and i think he's going to the US too!! not sure about that !!
He's not going to France so any French AC can be ruled out, unless they have already negotiated a deal

At the time when PAF was negotiating for Mirage 2000-5 aircrafts, one of the spokesman stated that PAF has 2 - 2.5 billion USD to purchase new fighters.

President Musharraf is leaving on the 4th of July for Sweden and will negotiate to sell Gripens to PAF.

Tell me some thing i dnt knw man. & Uqaab PAF is negotiating Mirage 2000-5 but with a third party not France, even if they are they would not be considering it a Sqdn Leader Jet or the 1st front line jet in the PAF Jet line up. I would like to see Mirage2000-5 in Pak but not in the lead. I hope we do get Gripens aswell as F-16. Believe me PAF is going to go for both Gripen & F-16s. I read tht USA has allowed European countries to help develop Pakistan's defence (till US congress alows full military support to Pak). So I think its a hint for PAF to get those F-16s from Belgium.

While I m writing I just herd on GEO tht President is leavin tomorrow (4th July) for Sweden & Finland. No news abt his visit to USA.

Anyways adsH how good is mirage2000-5 compared to PAF Mirage 3 n 5. You once told me that PAF's upgraded Mirage 3 n 5 are good. But how good r they? n how good r they compared to Mirage2000-5.
Also tell which jet is better, Gripen or F-16 (not the one PAF has but the one US uses) also add Mirage2000-5 to comparison.

& here is a roumer I hare tht might interest all. PAF did aproach France for Rafeal & Germany for EF-2000. Both nations agreed for the sale. PAF found the price for both jets ok...but the cost of keeping them was very high. Beside Germany n EU have said to have laid bitter conditions for Pakistan, which were not negotiable. CONFIRM THIS FOR ME WILL YA.
So tht means tht Rafeal is still available..for PAF aswell as IAF.
 
Musharafs going to sweden AND finland. One of the agnedas in the defence co operation agreement is to lower the 30% american components or sign a no embargoe deal. Also included is some sort of a naval co operation deal i cant find out much about as well as negotiations to lower the AWACS price tag.

Also, i think india is considering to purchase some sort of a top of the line fighter. Possible options include F-22 or the Su-37 or something less advanced like the EF-2000, Su-35 or Rafael.

More over, the PAF plans to solve its Strike aircraft limitations by employing K-8s for Close support thus keeping atleast a 100 strike aircraft which even when diverted to air defence would keep 65 for strike. Atleast one squadron of mirages is being configured for ground attack with options for one more giving 40 aircraft. Add 10 J-10s in that with the rest for other purposes.( in case u didnt know the J-10 is being inducted along side the Gripen for the TFL category. Now put in 20 JF-17s (attacker versions srt coming in 2010). With this we add any gripen or F-7 or any other aircraft we can find suitable for attack. This fleet of strike aircaft would be comparable to F-16 A with some of them going above that. Also more aircaft can be spared by increasing SAMs and inducting AWACS which frees up more aircraft.

this analysis applies to 2010. Correct me if im wrong. :)

i think J-10 is on the hold at the moment!! J-10 is a possible option but PAF wants Western AC as front line ac to sharpen their attack.
 
Technically the gripen should be superior to the J-10 but the problem is only of embargoes and replacements. Once PAFs pool of gripens starts diminishing there is no hope of replacements but this is not the case with the J-10. Even if war breaks out and we have between 40-60 J-10s compared to the indian armada of 2010 ( i dont know why but people think theres gonna be a war in 2010), they would be capable of good air defence provided there is a good number of SAMs and AEW platforms backing them.

this news is old again it states that france is willing to sell the AC's to Pak if they want but PAF has to come to a decision. France has always said that the Mirage 2005 mk2 are available, but PAf has to come up with the Funds to finance such a purchase and for that PAF is still considering the pricey Mirages. this news is old and is for the masses who happen to be abit ignorant when it comes to PAF Needs.
 
I agree. The news is kinda old. Nobody really considers the mirage anymore with all the hype about the gripen, f-16 and J-10.

it's hard to say what they would cost basically its an adaptable platform that can be configured to any ones requirements so there isn't static price perunit. if PAF is opting for 40 grippens and they are going to spend about 2.5 billion dollars on it i would think it would have some good subsystems on bord.
