Greetings

Hello, my name is Patrick I'm 26 years old and from Chicago IL. I do not have a background in the military or defense fields. I do however enjoy reading books about war, foreign relations, strategy and historical figures. I enjoy keeping up to date on current events. I am however a born skeptic and am always questioning information I receive from various information outlets.

I joined this group in hopes to gain a better understanding of the complex layers that contribute to modern defenses. My goal with all of you is to be able to unravel some of the mystery about what exactly is going on behind the scenes everyday to keep a country protected. My fascination started when I tried to comprehend what would happen if a plane flew into foreign airspace and the amount of steps that would be taken to respond to a threat.

Anywho I don't claim to be an expert by any means but hope to be able to contribute well to discussions and topics.

Thanks for having me and I look forward to getting to know you all.

Patrick

Hello everyone. Call me The British Charmer, or British Post. Could you believe I'm 16 and not only going to National Guard, but read the Art of War, is currently reading Roots of Strategy, and watches CNN!? I'm not your typical spoiled brat who stays on myspace all day, me youtube is 99% military. I hope to not only expand me knowledge but make lifelong friends here as well. Thank you for having such a great pleast to get accquainted at.

Hope to talk to you all soon...
I can relate with your position. Just call me Lloyd. I'm 16 as well. My intentions are to graduate from West Point and be a career infantry officer. Are you going career enlisted or do you plan to go officer? I haven't read those books but I do study the military all the time. I have read histories of wars. My most favorite one, which I greatly recommend, is an autobiography by General of the Army Omar N. Bradley. It's called A General's Life. It gives great insight into the inner workings and strategies of WWII in the European Theater from the allied side. I study mostly modern developments in the US military systems, weapons, organizations, strategies, etc.
I too wish to learn more from this forum. Good luck British Post!
Does the British National Guard work the same as the US?

Good day to all,

Small intro here from a 26 year old British guy currently living in Canada and attempting to acclimatize to a very chilly Northern Ontario (-7.6 F yesterday!)

Mainly a military aviation enthusiast since a young age, was unfortunately cursed with poor eyesight that denied me a shot of ever pursuing the dream! however the passion lives on somewhat in indulging in related books, research and sites of this nature, with the odd airshow thrown in for good measure :)

Most defense related, geopolitical and current events interest me, and we seem to have enough going on in the world these days to discuss.

I do not claim to know anything of great value, considering the wealth of quality information I have seen here so far already, however, if I do happen upon something of interest, I will be sure to share with you all!

See you on the boards...

Hi there

Hello everyone! Stumbled across this website a few days ago and it looks like a top place for information and news etc.

I'm 22 years old and studying Defence Studies at Massey University in New Zealand. In 2012 I will be commencing my postgrad Honours programme, and to be honest I can't wait!! Over and above my thesis and historical methodology papers, I will be studying Public International Law for Defence and Security. Unfortunately, the Massey's Centre for Defence and Security Studies are not offering the widest selection of postgrad paper in 2012, and consequently it was a toss-up between defence technology, command studies, and Public International Law; and Law seemed the most employable!

Any other members from New Zealand???

I think these forums, (and the professional group discussions once I get accepted), is a great place for students and non-professionals to discuss topics with industry specialists from around the world in order to further one's understanding. And I certainly will be asking members for help and info on my thesis question come 2012, I can assure you!

My interests mainly reside in the Second World War, particularly land operations on the Eastern front ( but damn it I can't speak Russian so that counts a thesis out) but other sectors as well. Contemporary defence issues are also of interest to me, including Law of Armed Conflict, tactics, Operational Art and operations, international relations, task organisation and defence industry news.

As a heads-up, my thesis mission statement, while not yet confirmed, will be in the area of German Jointness during the invasion of Norway in 1940. I have already started researching the campaign and will be sure to start a new thread on the 'strategy & tactics' threads soon.

Just realised i never actually did this

I'm Rob Williams, I'm an 18 year old Mechanical Engineering student at Cardiff University. Got a massive interest in military hardware and military history so this forum feeds half of that :) and keeps me up to date on development and other goings on in the military world.

Planning on working for the MoD on a graduate scheme after i graduate and dip my foot in various areas of military development to give me a guide to which i'd like to do.

Play up Pompey

Just popped in to say hello after spending far too many hours browsing some rather lengthy threads on the UK CVF and another on JSF programme.

Served in the RN for 34 years and have been retired for 8 years. Still working to earn the old beer tokens managing a motley and mutinous crew.:D

Greetings

Hello.

I am, as you may be able to guess by this message if not my post count and join date, a new member. I spent the time before I posted familiarising myself with the rules, and can best sum them up by saying "be nice and don't clog up the forum".

Currently in the AAFC, planning to stay in there for the couple years longer before I finish high school and enlist in the ADF. Planning to join the RAAF (not as a pilot, for some reason people think everyone who joins the RAAF wants to be a pilot).

I heavily study military tactics and strategy, and unlike some people I know could write up a long document on the differences between both.

I like professonalism and dislike unprofessionalism, which has turned out to be a good quality.

Hi, guys!
I`m new, haven`t read the rules, but shall try not to break them. :lol3
Years ago I served in a Warsaw pact army and from that time emerged as a pacifist.
Most interested in the Royal Navy, esp. the new carriers, submarines and the type 45 destroyers.
Happy to be in this particular forum!
