I think they could do at least without the black outlines and threading. I'm not entirely sure how capable the local garment industry is in producing patches that match the camouflage uniform it is on but at least they could do away with the black threading.

The OPM-command claims the full responsibility of the attack. According to them civilians do not have a reason to enter the warzone, every civilian entering the warzone makes them automatically a TNI/POLRI (military/police) members, which give OPM the right to kill them.


An evacuation mission is planned, but the weather at the moment doesn't allow it.

In the video a Bell 412 is visible, but looking to the interior of the helicopter which saves him, i am quite sure it is Eurocopter AS550/AS555.

EH101 (or AW 101), From my understanding never been in the Army Air Corps release before. Unlike Bell 412 and Bell 505.

This January news put 32 helicopter, but mostly I heard before is Bell 412 and some Bell 505 (that antique Hughes 300 already much overdue for replacement for helicopter basic trainers).

EH101 just treat it as grain of salt. There's enough rumours from sources outside the Twitter guy. For one thing TNI-AD prefer helicopter with back ramp for their Medium-Heavy category. That's one of reason they are not goes with H225M, as TNI-AU do.

Because of budget (on procurement and operational) they choose Mi-17V before. Now it's getting difficult to get them due to CAATSA and now Western Financial market embargoes to Russia. Like I said before, Indonesian foreign defense procurement since Soeharto times, used Foreign Credit line. They (finance people) can't get that now, unless they go with direct cash or using Chinese Financial market (if available).

So if this EH101 materialize, I suspect TNI-AD want to evaluate it as potential Mi-17V alternative. Boeing Indonesia in their sites seems indicating they are still in talk for CH-47 (as seems Osprey will not be given money by MoF and MinDef). However whether CH-47 or Osprey will be different class altogether.
 
After quite a long while, I've dipped my toe back into TNI research. Looking at my favourite topic the Cavalry, I noticed two major things. There was a unit reorganisation about 4 years ago with many units renamed and reorganised, and secondly, many vehicles were reshuffled between units. My ~6 year old documentation of which cavalry unit is equipped with which vehicles are in many cases obsolete and needed refreshment. But I couldn't help but notice the utter chaos with regards to wheeled vehicles. Look for example at Cavalry Company 2 (Kikav 2) stationed in Yogyakarta. They are equipped with a staggering 6 different armored vehicle types. In a single company of less than a 100 soldiers. And this seems typical of most of the Kikav units througout the archipelago. 6 vehicles, from basically 5 countries. One French (Panhard VBL), one Indonesian (Anoa 2), one South Korean (Tarantula), two British (Saladin and Saracen), one also Indonesian but based on a Japanese civilian truck (APR-1 V1). Two different maingun systems (90mm for the Tarantula, 76mm for the Saladin), and even more heterogeneity between vehicle-mounted small arms. Every vehicles has different tires, a different engine, a different drivetrain (except for Saladin and Saracen, obviously). Many vehicles are only available in lower single digit numbers. In times of crisis I don't even want to know the absolute headache that every one of these companies would create for logistics. The Indonesian army should urgently streamline the way they spread combat vehicles between units. It makes no sense this way. And the crazy thing is, this is a new development. It was less chaotic 6 years ago. In tracked vehicles, they apparently have done this far more effectively. Here, between the Leo 2, the AMX platform, and the Scorpion/Stormer platform, it seems homogenous within the individual battalion.

Panhard basically being plan to be replace by Komodo 4×4 as it's basically Pindad development from Renault Sherpa.

All 6x6 of Alvis Saracen and Saladin will be replace by Anoa and Badak (Rhino). From what I gather the one will be maintain for longer time (not will be sloted to be replace by Anoa soon) is Cadilac Gage V150.

New capacity will come from Pandur II 8x8 and their plan on introducing MRAP. That MRAP still not clear which will be the final choice from Pindad to be license with. Before they (Pindad) already talk for licensing Aussies Bushmaster, however I suspect the price make they are also looking for other potential partners.

It's all back to the budget when Anoa and Badak can be produces to replace those old Armoured Whelled vehicles.

On present facility not yet. The current production capacities will not make them able to full fill the replacement in short time, even if the budget available. Pindad bit close on their production capacities. However looking on their delivery, and the size of their production line, I suspect they can produce annually of 50 6x6 plus 80 4x4 of 'special vehicle' at most.

Rumours from 'finance' people, the order to Pindad done by batch not only related to budget issue, but also to Pindad own production line capacity of 'special' vehicle.

That's why in this thread before I said; 'relative comparison to Automotive lines of Toyota, Daihatsu, Honda or Hyundai in Indonesia, Pindad 'special' vehicle line, just like workshop'. However considering the amount of order they got, it's bit hard to justify more modern and larger 'special' vehicle facility. So it's bit chicken and egg situation.

I've seen that delivery of the Badak has started last month. That is definitely a welcome step in phasing out the Saladins and Saracens. I already suspected that the current state is supposed to be temporary. But without an established timeline when this process will be finished, it is rather unfortunate. I would posit that it would've been more advisable to keep the units clean (for example only Tarantulas and Anoas in one unit, only Saracens and Saladins in the other, rather than this wild mix throughout all of them). That only works until a security crisis puts the system under stress. But maybe they consider the probability of such an occurence so low that they risk it in favour of giving every unit at least a little bit of modern punch. On a similar note, I wonder if Tarantulas and Badaks will again be present within the same units, which again would defeat the efforts of streamlining. But I assume once all the Badaks have arrived they will split the two vehicles cleanly between the different Kikav units.

I'm not yet sure what units will receive the Pandur II, on first glimpse it is yet another vehicle in an already confused array of vehicles. But I'll withhold any judgement considering my present lack of knowledge about how and where TNI is planning to use them. I would be very interested in those plans.

Czech TATRA, perhaps this is one of the result. However it is not clear yet on whose their partner on this potential project. It's also possible they are working with some foreign design partner, but will use different chassis.

The heaviest chassis produce in Indonesia are by Japanese Hino. Mercedes also produce chassis in Indonesia, but so far their facility in Indonesia produce on Medium weight class.

Will see if this project developing to prototype stages, as more information will come on that stage.

Turkish media claim that the first batch of 18 FNSS-PINDAD Medium Tank will be ready to begin production stage. 18 of them will be divide with 10 production with FNSS and 8 with PINDAD.

This seems as conclusion from PINDAD Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), that recently being conducted.

Let me put it this way, Indonesian Bureaucrats like to have projects. Indonesian MinDef bureaucrats are not immune on that. Some of the projects just ending up in prototypes, and perhaps only less then three in ten ever got into production stage.

Still Indonesian MinDef is not the only MinDef that imune from getting as much as projects possible. There're also more 'political' urge now, to get more local RnD. So they're increasing push for local industry involvement to participate. In some way, perhapd it is the way to improve local RnD.

As for that E-Saladin, I don't think it is going to get more from Prototype stage. It is just part of project to shown indegenous capabilities for EV development (as political pressure from top want Indonesian EV design ASAP). Many agencies in Indonesia involve on that, so why can't Indonesian MinDef involve also.

Turkey media put report on yesterday ceremony in FNSS commencing production of 1st batch of FNSS-Pindad Medium Tank Harimau. As mentioned before the 1st batch will be 18 with production divided on 10 in FNSS and 8 in Pindad.

So far TNI-AD shown that Harimau (Tiger) will be use as AMX-13 replacement. Thus it is aim to complemented MBT like Leo 2, and not intended to do MBT job on modern warfare doctrin.

One that interesting to see in the article on FNSS claim that one of the problem with Harimau is their turret still come from third parties vendor (in this sense is Belgium Cockeril). Thus FNSS and Pindad seems try to find solution on building their own turret. Perhaps the link that @koxinga put above on PT. SAS Aero is related to this, or perhaps another project.

However turret already become problem when FNSS-Pindad try to enter Philipines market. Philipines then decided to take Israel Elbit Medium Tank as Philipines media claim more prefered choices than Harimau which has Belgium components (as one of the reason). Belgium already block arms transfer to Philipines due to Duterte harsh policy on internal security.

Something that Turkey already experiancing, thus seems want to get partner for developing more in house.

Apparently, there was a technical meeting for a 280km MLRS dubbed ITBM 600 according to KRIS. Multiple forums said it was of Turkish origin. Some forum suspected that it may be Turkish KHAN. Personally, I'm even surprised that the army was looking for a land-based ballistic missile. As usual with this country, I'd rather just wait until there's a firm contract before even dreaming about this.
