Ya seriously dude..think that they can easily get IRIS-Ts easily from the european markets even if they dont get the AIM-9X..
I don't see why not. Sweden has sold Erieye to the PAF now and the US is selling PAF: AIM-120C5, JDAM and JSOW. I do not see any reason why PAF should have any difficulty acquiring IRIS-T, AIM-9X or even ASRAAM if it wanted.

The time when PAF were denied modern "first world" US and European weaponry has past or at least been temporarily suspended...

Pakistan chooses Raytheon missiles

Pakistan has signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance for the procurement of 500 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and 200 AIM-9M Sidewinder missiles from Raytheon.

The purchase reprsesents the largest single purchase of AMRAAM missiles in the history of the AMRAAM international programme and the first AMRAAM missile procurement between Raytheon and Pakistan. Delivery of the AMRAAM missiles will start in 2008 and continue through 2011.

The combined $284m procurement augments Pakistan's established inventory and will provide the bulk of the air-to-air fire power of the Pakistan Air Force.

This order brings to a total of 32 the number of countries which have procured AMRAAM. Twenty countries use the AIM-9M Sidewinder missile

The dual-engine option is generally chosen when your AF must fight a large portion in a maritime role. Considering most of PAFs action will be overland it really shouldn't be a priority.

Has not the PAF dedicated many MirageIII/5's to the maritime role armed with exocets?

A country of 150Million and huge potential with a well trained airforce
So I feel its a illgitimate question and since The PAF have been operating Mirages since what the 1960/70s

why not buy a few second hand high maintenance su-27 types and just get em requiped with modern avionics and weapon sytems

or is the the PAF best served with Thunders and J10 with long range missiles
Pakistan covers a big area with lets say awkward neighbours isnt a robust defence important?

I expect the orders for the launchers and the other A-G weapons will soon follow. $650M worth, to support the new aircraft, and the rest for the MLU etc.

why would you want su-27s, when you can get J-10s?
If Pakistan is really just looking for a missile launcher, I suppose they will get CAC to work on a JF-17 capable of launching 2 C-802A/KD. It's not like the old days, China actually has an okay set of ground attack munitions now that it can sell to Pakistan.
air launched variants:
anti-ship: YJ-62/C-802A
ARM: YJ-91
Air to surface missile: C-802KD
LGBs: LT-2
SGB: FT-1/3, LS-6

it was just a thought really big aircraft with punch
for naval use it was usually thought as better to have a two engined aircraft but since paf hasnt got a carrier I guess I just wanted a pilots view

I do acknowledge that the J-10 in concert with the weapons package that PAF is aquiring will do PAF very nicely but they are just recent advances

and I suppose if the PAF get air refueling tankers then they really will not be needing big f-15 class aircraft for quite some time

that was my thinking

Pakistan to get first P3 C aircraft on January 18

SIKANDER HAYAT

ISLAMABAD (January 14 2007): Pakistan will receive the first of the eight P3 C Orion aircraft acquired from the US on January 18, Naval Chief Admiral Afzal Tahir said Saturday, adding the new weapon system would help secure Pakistan's sea lines.

In an obvious reference to India's growing naval presence he said Pakistan can not afford to remain "oblivious of our traditional adversary when it comes to our security and sovereignty". "While formulating our defence strategy, the current and future development plans of our arch rival must be kept in view", he said.

The Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir was addressing the Annual Efficiency Competition Parade and Awards Ceremony 2006 of Pakistan Navy Fleet, held at PN Dockyard in Karachi. A media release covering the function was distributed here Saturday by the Naval Headquarters.

Admiral Tahir further said that Pakistan has no aggressive designs yet it is vital to enhance our defence capability to protect our sovereignty and integrity. Pakistan Navy is, therefore, in a process to acquire modern weaponry and platforms.

He apprised that first of the eight P3 C Orion aircraft acquired from USA will land at naval air base Karachi on 18th of this month. Induction of this all weather aircraft will enhance Navy's reconnaissance, anti-submarine and anti-surface vessel operation capabilities, he added.

The naval chief said that with the development of Gwadar Port and expansion of maritime infrastructure at Karachi, Pakistan is on the threshold of becoming a major conduit for trade and commerce in the region. "This entails to have an efficient and strong navy to safeguard sea lines of communication and trade routes to ensure safe and secure economic activity".

The naval chief urged the officers and men to explore all avenues to support and nurture the Fleet and sustain its fighting efficiency. He reminded them that the modern Hi-Tec military hardware is not a panacea itself.

It is the trained manpower and professional competence of the fighting men and their resolve to protect the national interests at all costs, which ultimately makes the difference, he added. Admiral Tahir expressed his complete satisfaction over the performance of PN fleet and lauded the efforts of all concerned for successfully accomplishing all the operational objectives set for the previous year.

Earlier in his welcome address Commander Pakistan Fleet Rear Admiral Asaf Humayun recounted the operational achievements of the PN fleet. He said that participation of Pakistan Navy in major maritime exercises and continued contribution towards international war against terrorism not only proved its battle worthiness but also turned out to be highly beneficial for enhancement of its professional capabilities.

Later, the chief guest Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir gave away prizes to the winning units. In Destroyer Squadron PNS BABUR clinched the first position. In submarine Squadron PNA/M SAAD was proclaimed winner and in Aviation 111 SEAKING Squadron was adjudged the best and received the winning trophy. The large number of senior serving and retired officers and sailors of Pakistan Navy attended the ceremony.

AMX vs Thunder

How does AMX which is jointly built by Italy and Brazil, stands beside JF17. Does it have the same capabilities, or better.

The two aircraft are in different classes altogether. The AMX is meant to be a light, cheap, easy to maintain attack aircraft with little air-air capability. On the other hand the JF-17 is a more rounded out design, capable of fulfilling both fighter as well as attack roles.

Is PAC going to actually be making their own Advanced Aero engines down the road

even if its licenced built WS13's

For PAF latter JF-17s say 10 years from now
if not isnt that going to be an oversite if PAF ever wants to stand on it own feet

China will not give Pakistan the license to build WS-13 and PAC does not have the resource to develop its own engine.

i wonder why they wont give the licence for the ws13 engines ,considering that pakistan is such a close ally and an all weather friend.

Aren't Pakistan & China supposed to be building the JF-17 together? If they can collaborate on a complete fighter, then why not an engine.

a modern turbofan engine is far more difficult to develop than a cheap plane like JF-17. And it was not in the context of the original agreement to provide Pakistan the ToT for engine.

Turbofan production is way beyond Pakistan's current capability. Better to start with at least license manufacturing the actual fighter first. In subsequential order, PAC would start with manufacturing the airframe; then weapon systems like BVR-AAMs & PGBs; avionics & other electronic systems; the ECM/EW suite; the radar; and finally the turbofan. An extremely long evolution process.
