I doubt it. Deal will take place between government officials, not air chief.
yeah sure government officials will finalize the deal but i wanna know ,is the lack of funds hindering the progression in this process or PAF is waiting for an upgraded version of j10.
i have listened once Gen.Mussarf spoken about visiting the site where j10 are been prepared and china offered them to PAF..........seems no doubt on chinese part they want PAF to buy:).....why PAF waiting so long.Haven't they got the funds or still waiting for MRCA.:sleepy3

Both.
Both the technical negotiations and financing negotiations are on-going. Plus engine is another point of concern since the J10 currently flies with a Russian Engine. Apart from that PAF has asked for certain demands in avionics and weapon. Hence the date 2014-15.

Also PAF has bought a lot of stuff of recent (for its finances) like F-16s, tankers, drones, SAMs, AEW&C (SAAB Erieye), and JF-17 so they are definitely discussing the financing of the purchase and any related development or facilities.

Pakistan-China in $1.4 billion Fighter Jet Deal
Daily Times Monitor

LAHORE: China has agreed to sell Pakistan at least 36 advanced fighter jets in a landmark deal worth as much as $1.4bn, Pakistani and western officials said on Tuesday.

China will supply two squadrons of J-10 fighter planes in a preliminary agreement, which could lead to further sales in future, a Pakistani official said.

The official added that Pakistan might buy “larger numbers” of the planes in the future, but denied reports that Pakistan had agreed to buy 150 jets.

Experts described the agreement as a 'landmark' in Pak-China relations.

“The agreement should not simply be seen in the narrow context of Pakistan’s relations with China,” said Abdul Qayyum, a retired Pakistani general. “There is a wider dimension. By sharing its advanced technology with Pakistan, China is ... also saying to the world that its defence capability is growing rapidly.”

China has supplied Pakistan with fighter jets for more than three decades. Experts said the sales would be evidence of China looking to expand its military power. “Countries like Iran and possibly some of the Middle Eastern countries would be keen to deal with China,” said one western official in Islamabad.

Looks like the deed has been done! The agreement has been inked, am sure much to most ppl's surprise.. The general opinion thus far was that this might take some time. However, this is clearly very symbolic of the Sino-Pak relations. It is bound to raise eyebrows in Delhi & Washington.

Strange. The deal was inked early afternoon on the 10th and your contention is that Indian media reported it on the 8th. Spare us.

Instead of posting irrelevant comments, try posting something that is constructive towards discussion on the topic such as how the J-10 sale would impact the situation in the subcontinent - especially in light of souring Sino-Indian ties

well i read people talking about government officials dealing. Here is something optimistic for PAF ......PM Pakistan Yousaf Raza Gilani meet with Russian PM Vladimir Putin on occasion of his last visit to china for Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, the dialogues were successful & some of the ice melted........well i can't quote the source but it might help Pakistan to get russian engine for J10 ,with russians not objecting to it.
This can shorten the time of expected delivery to PAF(before 2014 i mean)
or it maybe helpful in getting Klimov RD93 turbofan engines for JF17 in future.

Deciding not to post it here was a correct decision because that article i think need some correction.Well no airforce in the world wants itself to be used as a Laboratory, the same applies to Pakistan Air Force and for Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force and Indian Air Force both primarily relying on russian market ,mentioning PAF as a laboratory for chinese hardware was ridiculous ;PAF has some real threats from neighbouring countries.
And when in the end the author writes about Pakistan buying 250 aircraft from china (which is way beyond what pakistan going to buy from china, that is first 50 if i am not wrong...........rest of them will be prepared in PAC) it raised some questions in my mind about what he wants to convey from this article.
Well that Rediff news person should atleast browse on internet or read defence portals like defence talk to atleast get some good picture of what is going on ;).
In the end thanks for not quoting it here.:)

Pakistani JF-17s are already equipped with RD-93 engines to my knowledge. Russians authorized Chinese installation of RD-93 on JF-17s long ago, despite Indian objections.

Anyways, what is being discussed is the J-10 - I don't see the need to have a separate thread on the topic as is currently the case. Pakistan will be looking to finalize the avionics suite, engine, etc in the near future. One needs to cross fingers for any upcoming news leaks for sure.

According to some sources the chinese engine for J10 is with improved thrust and so provides good T/W ratio than russian one.
WHY PAF THEN LOBBING FOR RUSSIAN ENGINE ,if chinese one is better in performance?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrust-to-weight_ratio

Is china herself fully satisfied with the performance of WS-10A that is the main query i would say.

although the ws10 can achieve the same thrust as the russian engine... it has greater 'spool up' time...i.e it takes much longer to achieve that thrust.
also there was that issue that it was not able to restart in mid air...........and that a test pilot lost his life due to that. (reliability issues)
that was the last i heard of it.

THEY SAY THAT the JF-17 will use Italian FIAR Grifo S-7 Pulse Doppler Radar. THIS RADAR HAS GOT LIMITED BVR CAPABILITY.
Will it create any problem with bvr missile SD10 or not?
Is PAF thinking for on any other options, because it looks JF 17 will not match with F16 C that PAF is going to get atleast in radar capabilities.:pakistan

that's some nonsense that appeared on a Chinese magazine when J-10 first came out and the rest of the article didn't seem to be right. And then this article got captured by Kanwa, which published it for everyone to see.

It seems first tests are conducted about delivery of ground weapons. I think PAF must consider some superior radar for jf 17.If they are considering to employ JF 17 in war scenarios. But if the mind set is just to give aerial cover to army on the battle field current RADAR will do the job.
