The flagship of Morocco is a spanish build corvette and they want to replace it with a destroyer? So, why Morocco bought a multipurpose fregate as Fremm?
A FREMM is a destroyer-sized 6000-ton "frigate". 70 years ago, and they would have called that a light cruiser.

Avec cette nouvelle unité, le Maroc devrait remplacer la corvette du type espagnol Descubierta, livrée au début des années 80.

Morocco will has ordered a FREMM ASM; tensions have been building between Morocco and Algeria. Algeria has 2 operational Kilo class submarines. The FREMM has a towed sonar that is great for hunting subs. The Moroccan probably should've bought two Gowinds. The Gowind 200 has a hangar for an ASM heliocopter; the Moroccans ASM capabilities mayl be reduced when FREMM is unavailable. The Moroccans are interested in the Dutch Sigma class corvettes, to replace some of their aging FACs. The Sigmas are very good vessels, when you considering their price compared to something like the Gowinds, but they don't have a hangar. Morocco could add the Thales CAPTAS Nano sonar to the Sigmas; the Thales Nano is a towed sonar designed for small vessels.

Sigma (1,692 tons, 2 Mistral TETRAL, 4 Exocet, 76mm, 2 20mm, MU90 torpedoes)
