Hi everyone, my name is Brian, another newbie here, from Auckland, New Zealand. A special hi to fellow kiwi's, nzbm, nz enthusiast, and no doubt others I will see.
I am 48, not involved in defence related matters, but would love to be the Minister of Defence lol. I have read everything I could find on military related matters since my early teens, thank God for the internet.
I wanted to join the AF but failed due to eyesight, thought about the navy but unimpressed by the obsolete equipment so never persued it. I have a special fascination for submarines, in fact designed a SSN when I was about 9, dad was so impressed he took it to work to show everyone he had a smart son lol, the inspiration came from a cutaway of the new "Ship Submerged Nuclear SSN Fleet Submarine HMS Dreadnought" back in 1963 in a boys magazine, Eagle I think.
I'm inclined to ramble on a bit, so gently let me know when I do lol. One of the things I hate about forums in general is the flames when someone makes a mistake, or displays a lack of knowledge, or are not fleunt in english, this forum does seem clean in that respect, I know there are always going to be some heated debate when you have members who are from countries that in public are not on good terms though.
Oh, a belated hi to the members from the wee country next door across the ditch. If you are throwing away your F18's, aim them this way please, the new National government come september would be grateful.

mate, I don't think there would be enough left with healthy centre barrels by the time we get rid of them. we do miss having your scooters as aggressors though. ironically your lot are leasing jets to do the job that the scooters did a whole lot better. ;)

anyway - welcome to the club..

Lol, thanks gf. At the moment we have to rely on private ex military aircraft owned by the confederate AF, lol, mostly WW2 + vintage, though there is a Mig 21 iirc in the mix. Be interesting to see if the next government does anything different, the Nats have said they would reestablish the fighter wings. Most people here have had enough of PC so probably a change due. Ah well, time will tell.

Hi Enigmaz, welcome to DefenceTalk mate! I hope you enjoy your stay here. :)
We have taken extra special measures to stop/eliminate flames and trying hard to spread idea of mutual respect. I don't think, I want to run "just another forum" on the net you see and I appreciate folks like Gary (gf), umair, pathfinder, red arrow and others by helping me do that. ;)

If anyone knows where DT oldest known NZ member "winter" is, please let me know! I think, he left due to "political fights" we use to have in political forums.

Thanks Webs, encountered my first problem, perused all the archives, replied to all the threads that interest me, now triddling my thumbs, lol. Most of the threads do seem to revolve around SE Asia, or, "whats the best" threads. Might have to start my own hehehe :D :bazooka

Feel free to do so, just don't start up "who's got the best chrome plated grease nipple" type questions :)

You would have seen the results and calibre of some of the responses from your trawling....

The best chrome plated grease nipple hands down is the F-104!! Anything that pointy can never come in second place... :D

Anyways, I'm Attila now under a different name and am going back to school next September for Journalism. Hoping to use it as a segway into a military aviation journalist or something else cool like that.. :)

Ummm, I am an defence enthusiast, but just that. The experts here have terrific knowledge and I hope to learn from them.

Hi, I'm Z. I've got no military or engineering background whatsoever but I read as much military history as i can get my hands on. Much of what's available, especially the television documentaries seem rather one sided, for example; how many documentaries about the battle of the bulge have been aired, yet there are few about the battle of Kursk.

I'm no revisionist, but the gaps in the information just make the curiosity that more intense...

Don't think I've introduced myself here, so I might as well now.

I'm Jarrod, 18, from South Australia. I stumbled upon this site looking for details of military hardware, just out of interest, and the database here is really quite good. I'm not in the military, but have been close to joining the army reserves (never did, obviously).

Anyways, gday all, glad to be here :D

Hi Jarrod, welcome to DT and thanks for joining!

The database will be better once we're done with it. Currently, it doesn't really have much but slow and steady its coming along.

Enjoy
