FWIW ADRI LCI and ADRI LCII are called LST and they are at 2500 metric tonnes DWT. Perhaps it's just the media using the wrong terminology?

I believe for this L type, TNI-AD call it as LCU (Landing Craft Utility). This is been said by them since the first L type. Seems all media, and enthusiasts forums also call it LCU.



In the ceremony they call it LCU, seems it is the classification they give for this L type.

It is true that the new ADRI LIII is described as LCU despite being bigger and heavier than the LI and LII which were described as LST.

The most likely explanation is that the Indonesian Army doesn't really care about naval terminology and just uses whatever the current army chief says.

Philippines Navy first LPD sail through PAL facility in Surabaya to conduct MRO. However I put those pictures (from PAL and Keris X) mostly due to background picture. Honestly I don't know how those modules will be ready to be launch by 2-3 months as being aim by PAL CEO.

No that in background are modules for FMP. That's supposed to be launch in July according to PAL CEO.

Compare to private yards like in Batam or Lampung area, their schedule are more in line in project management. Granted they are mostly doing OPV and Corvette size projects, not yet Frigates, but doesn't mean PAL can use that as excuse.





This Corvette is being hand over to TNI-AL, when it is just launch sometime back. Clearly shown PAL as largerst Naval Shipyard, has more thing to be sort out on their production management.

If look closer at the first photo, it looks suspiciously like the keel/module of the 4th Philippines LPD that was laid down in 2024. They are... way behind on this and it looks like no surprise that FMP is delayed.

The question is, which one is a priority? A foreign customer order or a TNI order?

According to schedule FMP 1 and 2 is ahead from UAE Al Maryah then Philippine 3rd and 4th LPD. That's why it is important for PAL to launch FMP's this year, to prepare the dock for Al Maryah LPD and later on Philippines LPD's.

The other docks in PAL usually being used for MRO jobs or building smaller ones. Big size Vessels usually used that Semarang dock as the largest one. That's dock can handle 2 Vessels assembly.

The UAE LPD contract and steel cutting came after the Filipino contract. Effectively at least 2 or 3 of these needs to be assembled in dok semarang parallel.

Currently, there are multiple projects going on at PT PAL.

1. W000304, first of the Arrowhead 140, steel cutting reported 9 Dec, 2022, laid down on 25 August, 2023
2. W000305, second of class, status unknown
3. W000306, first of two Philippines LPD, steel cutting reported on 10 Aug, 2023, laid down on 22 Jan, 2024
4. W000307, second of two Philippines LPD, steel cutting reported on Jan, 2024
5. W000308, UAE 163M LPD/Al Maryah, steel cutting reported on 28 Feb, 2024

Would be interesting to see how the yard manages laying down and finishing them between the 2024 - 2027 period, since multiple hulls are at the stage of assembly. The first are likely the Philippines LPDs, in 2025, 2026. No fancy systems integration, and a mature design.

Video on inauguration KRI Bung Hatta. Officially it is classified as 2nd vessel on the class after KRI Bung Karno. However the specs between Bung Hatta and Bung Karno differed significantly that this should be consider seperate class.

DRU OPV 90 and This Karimun Corvette 80 from what I gather are increasingly being aimed as Parchim replacement as back bone of Indonesian Navy.

Image on KRI Bung Hatta FFBNW armament and sensors. Seems this is initially come from the Shipyard (Karimun). The armament will have 76mm main gun (currently use Bofors 57mm Mk1), 20mm gun on RCWS, Mistral SHORAD and Light Torpedo for ASW.

If this design then chosen as Parchim replacement, it is upgrade ASW performance with Helicopters and hull mounted sonar (then dip sonar in Parchim) plus light weight torpedo systems. Still for SAM relies on SHORAD as Parchim do.

Hyundai EV market very depending to export, especially to US market. Their own market is not big enough to sustain large EV market. Different with China own EV market. I suspect this is also why Chinese CATL so far still continues their EV Battery supply chain project in Indonesia.

LG Chem EV Battery so far depends to Hyundai EV as main users. Thus problem on Hyundai EV production will matter more for them on potential further Investment in EV Battery.

There's meeting in Parliament with Naval Chief on Navy opinion in the establishment of official Coast Guard entity. As this moment the maritime constabulary duties intersect on various agencies and ministry.

Actual non Naval patrol ships in Indonesia actually significant enough in number. However they are distributed in Bakamka (unofficial Coast Guard), Maritime Police, Customs, Fisheries, Transport Ministry. This off course increase bureaucracy waste, inefficient budget expenses, higher operational costs, and off course as usual in Indonesia increase under the table costs between various agencies.

The bureaucracy cake slicing that make this problem unresolved for decades. In this meeting Naval Chief already shown support for creating official coast guard agency. This in his opinion to simplified maritime constabulary bureaucracy, and provide 2nd line of maritime security reserve in times of war or emergency after Navy.

I suspect Navy wants Bakamla thar being supported as main coast guard agency and the rest merge under new Coast Guard. Bakamla already have strong relationship with Navy, and their commander mostly coming from Navy. Thus there's vested interest by Navy on Bakamla. However for me it us better to do that. It will not reduce 'unofficial' costs significantly at Indonesia maritime policies, but hopefully provide better regulatory control.

It will undoubtedly result in cost savings, even if they have to absorb the personnel of all those separated entities in to one. Efficiency can also significantly increase, because communication and coordination should automatically improve, specially if they streamline the procedures.

There'd be other ways to do that.

Over here in Germany the actual "Coastguard" is a coordination agency that only runs a situation/command center to which 11 (!) different agencies contribute. Situational picture is aggregated there and tasks distributed to the agencies depending on what portfolio they fall into. Other European countries operate the same way, e.g. Italy has a similar coordination center.

I think BAKAMLA originally started in the 70s (as BAKORKAMLA) as a similar central coordination agency that just later decided to build up its own assets.

We've had the same discussion over here for the past 20 years, i.e. calls for a "unified coastguard" from some political groups. With the added difficulty of being a federal country.

The operational costs of maintaining multiple fleets shouldn't differ much from having them aggregated under one agency, provided the ships are actually considered necessary to handle their tasks. After all we're not talking about 3-4 ships in one agency and 3-4 in another, but instead literally dozens to hundreds per agency.

From looking at it externally, it seems to me that the main problem is overlap. As in multiple agencies running similar ships for identical purposes. Mostly security/patrol. And often - e.g. KPLP - even in their own sub-agencies or departments that only handle that task without other duties.
