no no not about you i am just waiting for some one to go
"arjun is the best, the armor can take 999 hits, and nothing will happen because it is Indian"
or
"arjun is a poor Indian product, Indians are brainless chaps who cannot make anything but outsourced programs, every thing made by India by virtue of being Indian is poor at best"
trust me i have seen the types. i am sure you are engaged with one of the types.

I know chrom man, go for it. yoo hoo

i wouldn't even bother comparing with the al khalid..coz its just chinese copy of a late 80's russian tank and a low tech product at tht
i wod place al-k below the t80vd
and i wod place the t80vd below the t90s
.

dude.. have u ever checked the power:weight ratio of the al-khalid ( MBT-2000 ) ???

because if u had u wouldn't have posted such a reckless comment !!

the Al-khalid is superior to the T-90 in every aspect but most notably it's diesel engines which r suited to the terrain.

the t-90 uses gas-turbines which have a habit of breaking downunder extreme conditions.

No - Indian T-90S tanks do not have gas turbine engines in them, and can you point me to a resource that states that they have had reliability issues with the power packs.

Talking about power to weight as a benchmark is reckless comment. :D

Ground pressure stats are far more useful.

t-90 s uses 1000 hp diesel....not gas turbine......it used to hav trouble in desert but tht was corrected before they were inducucted

ok back on track ARJUNS
i would say arjun is the best tank to come out lately.....and it is wrongly compared to the al-k which i think is a fairly old design ............coz it is an upgrade of an upgrade of an upgrade.....not a new design

2. the ak prject started later than arjun and still finished a decade earlier........how did they accomplish tht....well
they let china do the hard work.......SMART!!
they took an existing base and modified it a bit...to suit for desert warfare and wallah.....a " new tank" is born

3. the arjun is a completely new design which blends eastern and wertern tank designs....more towards the western and it a while to sort out its teething problems

4. and plzz dont judge the coolness of arjun from the vids on u-tude those tanks are stripped down in order to present to the press.....those arent military vids:rolleyes:

IT IS THE BEST COMBO OF CHALLY2, LEO2 AND MERKAVA4...:D

exactly,
and the arjun has better ground pressure than al-k

its just an awsome tank......a perfect blend of eaasterna nd western tank designs

despite tht power to wt ratio it goes only 2 kmph faster than arjun and has higer ground pressure than arjun and haas narrower tracks

they let the chinese do all the hard work!!!
also the chinese in turn took an already existing base and modified it a bit for desert conditions and repainted it and wallah.........we hav a new tank:unknown

And India had no help with the Arjun?
And India doesn't use foreign equipment in the Arjun?

This discussion here turns way into the usual pak-india bashing without substantial knowledge...

BTW, is the gun of the Arjun combatible with the ammo of the british L30?
With the Brits changing to the L/55 there is a nice amount of capable DU-Ammo free for sale on the market. I bet India could get a good price because there are not many (no... ;)) other customers for 120mm ammo for rifled guns.

Who cares if it is a upgrade or not, the important issue is vehicle capability in which you cannot comment on and justify your comments. It takes a foolish person or country to under estimate the capabilities of any future opponent. With all the different options that Pakistan has available for purchasing MBTs they have decided to stay with the Al-Khalid, think about it that.

Actually it is a different gun matched up to a different breech mechanisn. They actually went with the British and American 105 tube for some of the design specifications.

I know that they developed it after their experience with the 105mm L7.

My question is solely targeted at the 120mm ammunition the british use with their L30. Could it be used in the Indian gun.
The different breech mechanism could be a problem but it could also work despite the differences.

British L30 uses two part ammunition while Arjuns gun uses a combustible one piece like ours, aft cap and all.:)

You need to change your attitude and style of posting behaviour. Any more of these stupid pi$$ing competition type comments and you'll end up banned.

You are testing our patience.

Before commenting about other countries use of foreign capability you should start to have a serious look at your own

- considering that a lot of equipment and training will have to be acquired/imparted, how will the arjun tank ever be acquired to fill any gaps in the army?:unknown

Never.
But it is defenitely a good step forward towards an independent tank producing capability.
And while T-90s have to be procured to fill the gaps which exist due to a slow procurement of the Arjun the successor of it could be the indigenious indian standard tank they are searching for.

I agree with Waylander - India has gone down a long twisting road to get at the level that they have in regards to tank producing experience and they have come out with a platform that can compete on the modern battlefield. Alot of the aches and pains will be resolved when India decides to mass produce a MBT that belongs solely to them. It says alot for a country that can do that. I will want to follow the Arjuns that do get pressed into service and see how the tankers take to it over the T-90S so please keep us updated, you to @Kams.:)
