What about the tomahawk ctyle cruise missile that is being developed by DRDO? they are scrapping that too?
Well the missile you are quoting "Nirbhay" is not a part of IGMDP(Integrated Missile Development Programme) and it will be developed as under a seperate programme.

what happened to the dhanush programme???

has it been aborted too ????
Hah Dhanush is not under IGMDP programme and is successfully testfired few times and is ready to wipe out enemy naval formations with its tactical nuclear warhead. It has a maximum range of 750km with a 250kg nuclear warhead, i hope no navy in Indian ocean will want to face it's wrath, thanks.

One form or the other:confused: ,
I don't think Anti-tank missile has entered in any form.
Trishul-Short range- don't find any mention of it either entering service in any form:unknown .
The anti-tank missile will be inducted this year and other one Trishul is developed but will not enter Armed forces because their(armed forces) parameters have changed a lot since the starting of Trishul development.

This is what I concluded from reading all the posts in this topic:

As of today, out of all those missiles India has been developing and is developing indegeniously, only two are inducted :

Prthivi and Agni.

Interesting.

Prithvi, Agni, Akash.

Trishul is closed as the Barak frankly out preformed it and with the submarine launched cruise missile threat from our dear neghibours that was too big a gap to ignore. Once Barak missile system was installed it did not make sense to keep on pouring money into the program.

I see you are still going on with your propoganda in the rest of the places, nice keep it up.

Nag program has not been closed. test by year end.

That is how things work in a program open to public eyes, they start as technology demonstrators and eventually graduate to production if all goes well.

Haha.... if some pigeon doesn't want to open his eyes because of the fear of cat, the cat is there to hunt it out may be pigeon doesn't want to see it. Agni, Prithvi, Akash and now Nag is ready for howling fire at the enemies.

dhanush was not a part of the igmdp programme ,it was just a technology demonstrator project for the navy,to develop the capability to launch ballistic missiles from the warships and submarines,i believe a naval variant of the agni-3 ballistic missiles will arm the indian navy submarines but definitely not the dhanush ,which has very less range.
I think you don't know that Sagarika is the sub launched version of Dhanush and the Dhanush inturn is derived from Prithvi-3 and all of three have been successfully tested and ready for induction into armed forces.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagarika
Sagarika (oceanic) is a nuclear capable submarine-launched cruise missile with a range of 1000 km. This missile is a modified version of the ship launched Prithvi-III ballistic missile.[1] The development of this missile started in 1991. The first confirmation about the missile came in 1998 when, the then Defence minister George Fernandes announced during a press conference about the development of the cruise missile Sagarika.[2] The development of the underwater missile launcher know as the Project 78 (P78) was completed in 2001. This was handed over to the Indian Navy for trials. The missile was successfully test fired thrice
http://www.ibnlive.com/news/india-gets-submarinebased-nuclear-missile/44268-3.html
New Delhi: India has declared itself capable of launching a nuclear missile from a submarine and has announced that a submarine-based cruise missile Sagarika has been developed and tested successfully.

With the induction of Sagarika, India has completed the triad of India's nuclear weapons delivery systems.

This was made known at a Defence Research and Development Organisation function in New Delhi on Saturday where the team responsible for the development of the Sagarika was felicitated.

Sources say the Sagarika has a range of 1,000 km and has been accepted for induction by the Navy.

The missile is likely to be installed on the Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV). ATV is the indigenous nuclear-powered submarine that is expected to be launched next year

hey guys, great news here, israel has displayed for the first time the lora missile which india is planning to acquire(they selected it for funding as opposed to the russian iskander-e missile).

this is a top class system .

check out this link it also contains information on other technologies being displayed by israel at the defexpo 2008 ,including the lahat anti tank missile which is to be equipped on the arjun main battle tank.

here is the link and the aricle:

http://www.iai.co.il/Default.aspx?FolderID=34592&lang=EN&res=0&pos=0

The LORA is a Long Range Artillery Weapon System capable of engaging strategic targets deep in the enemy's territory from mobile or maritime platforms. Typical targets are fixed or transportable including infrastructure assets. The warhead can be delivered accurately within less than
10 meters from a designated target, regardless of the target's range.

The missile can be equipped with a 400 Kg. high explosive warhead or with 600 Kg. penetration warhead to hit hardened targets.
The missile can be launched within few minutes from unprepared positions. Any target whose location is known within the range of the missile can be attacked within less than 10 minutes from the launch decision.
The LORA uses a shaped trajectory flight mode.
LORA is stored in a sealed canister with shelf life of seven years without maintenance.

there is also a movie of this missile.

That is a very potent missile. I must say. Is it also produced in India under license from Israel because the topic says Indian missile programs ? Or did India just buy a few off the shelf ?

As of today, only Agni and Prthivi are inducted from all the missile India was and is developing indeginiously.

What is the status of Akash. Is it officially inducted as of today ?

Trishul cancelled, DRDO to focus on Barak II development

Dated 14/10/2006
Printer Friendly Subscribe
Research and development work on the indigenous ship defence missile Trishul will be stopped in December, official sources confirmed in New Delhi on Saturday.

Instead, the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) will focus on developing an advanced version of the Israeli Barak missile, now in the middle of a controversy following allegations of bribery in its imports.

The sources said Trishul was intended only as a technology demonstrator, meaning work on it would have formed the basis for developing missiles of the same category. They implied that the missile was not intended for induction in the Indian Navy although statements at various points of time by DRDO scientists suggested otherwise.

At least 50 trials have been conducted and nearly Rs. 300 crore has been spent on developing the Trishul, which is meant to shoot down missiles homing in on a ship.

The decision could cast a shadow on two other missiles — Akash and Nag — being developed by the DRDO as part of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme. While the DRDO has managed to develop Nag, meant to destroy tanks, it has had little success with the advanced versions, available off the shelf in the global armaments market for a decade. Akash's case is also the same and the Indian Air Force is understood to be hunting for alternatives abroad.

Officials do not think that the current controversy would inhibit the joint development of the next generation of Barak, which would be effective in a range of 60 km instead of the present 9 km. According to the CBI investigation, the Navy imported the Barak anti-missile systems and missiles despite DRDO objections and a middleman allegedly paid Rs. 2 crore to the then president of a political party.

The akash
Akash missile to be inducted in air force

The Indian Air Force has given the go ahead for induction of the indigenous surface-to-air Akash missile.

To start with, a squadron of these missiles, comprising 16 launchers would be inducted into the force, in what could be a happy new year tidings for the missile scientists, after repeated rejections by IAF experts earlier, according to Air Chief Fali Homi Major.

The IAF decision comes after a recent string of successful trials of the missile undertaken at the country's interim test range at Balasore in Orissa.

The missile has already suffered a massive slippage as it was earlier scheduled to be ready for induction in 2003.

"The trials of the Akash missile have gone pretty well. We will get a squadron of these missiles once the trials are over," Major told newsperson on the sidelines of a function in Delhi, where he also outlined that IAF was acquiring more advanced radars for a "gap free" coverage of the country's vulnerable areas like the southern peninsula.

He also said that the IAF had undertaken joint exercises in the region to test reaction to threats from the sea as well as to finetune synergy for increasing civil air traffic in the region.

"We just carried out an exercises in the southern peninsula to activate forces in the area and ensure integration of all air defence assets in the area," he said.

Akash gets Govt nod
Sunday January 6 2008 11:09 IST

Hemant Kumar Rout

BALASORE: In a major development, the Centre on Saturday gave clearance for induction of Akash, the surface-to-air missile, into the Indian Armed Forces. The 25-km range missile finally got the Government’s nod after a series of trials since 1990.

Akash was first test-fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-sea, about 15 km from Balasore.

A release from the Defence Ministry said a series of user trials of the missile during December at the ITR had been ‘fully successful’, demonstrating the weapon’s intended objective. The trials successfully proved the weapon’s ‘kill capability’, it read.

“The evaluation of the missile has been completed and the weapon system is now available for indigenous production,” a spokesman of the Ministry said.

The missile system is uniquely configured and customised for Indian Air Force and Indian Army.

The missile, which has been under development for a long time, has been hit by a series of delays and technical glitches forcing the defence services to rethink air defence modernisation plan.

Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Fali Homi Major had recently announced initiation process of inducting a squadron-strength of the missile.

According to reports, one squadron of these missiles would consist of 16 batteries that would be capable of targeting incoming aircraft and missiles, up to a range of approximately 25 km.

Earlier this year, the ACM had said the IAF had placed an order for the Spyder missile system to plug crucial gaps in its air defence capabilities due to the delay in the Akash programme.

Development of Akash missile is a part of Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP) and it has already suffered a big delay as it was programmed to be ready for induction in 2003.

The success of the Akash came as a shot in the arm for the scientists of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which last month successfully test-fired for the second time the 3,000-km range surface-to-surface Agni-III missile and an indigenous interceptor missile, planned to be turned into a Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system.

The NAG will be tested this year end and then it will be known what becomes of it.

Trishul has gone by-by a long time ago, no need to reinvent the wheel as they say.

so thats what 3 done, 1 achieved the technology demonstrator version and was subsequently sent to sleep following that Barak weapon system purchase and Barak-2(NG) joint venture, and another will go for test this year.

I am only interested in current and as of date facts and figures.

You fail to see the irony of posting “I do not care…” in a thread of a military discussion forum.
And seem to be interested in other motives, whatever that may be

Akash has been inducted into the IAF they have placed the order which includes the money, everything is done, and the production lines will churn out the missiles, try to read the posted articles, and if you wish to bend facts to suit your purpose, you define exactly the opposite of what you say you stand for.

If you are waiting for the actual physical induction of the missile into operational units on the ground before you acknowledge that the missile even exists, bravo. the integrated missile program develops the missiles and once everything is done it is passed on to the production phase that is how it happens for all we know this very moment production lines might be active and churning them out.

It is a system which will include more things the missile is a part of it.

And yes the issue of this thread is the "Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme" indeed.

Hi every body, IAF has placed the order for one squadron of AKASH after successfully conducting user trials in which AKASH was tested 9 times and it hit the target all the 9 time, with this Akash programme is a success. Now it is called induction in Pakistan i don't know but we can test the missile for 10th time live if some other country wants to send its aircraft for checking its(AKASH's) capability, thanks.

You guys are funny !

I have repeatedly said that I am ONLY interested in Current and as of date facts.

Placing an order for something does not mean it is inducted !! Atleast get your military terms right.

The topic is India's Intergerated Military Program which revolved around 5-6 missiles. All of them were suppose to be inducted " very soon " for the past 15+ years.

The FACT is that as of today, ONLY TWO are inducted.

Brahmos : Joint Venture. Not an indegenious Indian missile.
Akash : Not Inducted as of today. Ordering and Inducting are two different terms.

and the rest are all futuristic stuff. I am ONLY interested in current and as of date facts and figures.

Go to the military information websites please, that will keep you occupied for the rest of your life.

Try to take a look at the different versions of Agni.

And the difference between ordering and induction is "production" which for all you know is going on.

The missile development program is not a factory or a production line up responsible for producing/manufacturing the missiles, they develop them

The "Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme":
- Has delivered on Three accounts (according to your logic of five missiles- its more like Five projects). (Prithvi, Agni, Akash.)
- Will conduct tests for a forth one. (Nag)
- Reached the technology demonstrator version for the fifth one. (Trishul)

I see you have discovered the joys of editing, welcome to it eh.

Thats why I clearly wrote the other information is meant for forumites other than you.

I also specified Brahmos is a joint development, where Russia supplied the Airframe/Engine and India the Guidence/electronics.

I also wrote Aakash - Ordered and IOC.

IGDMP will close down at the end of 2008-2009 financial year. With better part of a yeat yet to come Aakash and Nag will enter services. (IOC). FOC and deployemnt will take couple of years more, but that is b/w production agency (BDL) and user (IAF/IA). not DRDO.

So 4 out of 5 is ok with me.
