The Navies F35C was never designed to be a vertical or even short takeoff aircraft but rather a conventional carrier launched aircraft. The F35 B was always meant to be a SHORT TAKEOFF and vertical landing aircraft and that is what it is. I would suggest a more logical. fact based from reliable sources approach, to any argument, rather than an emotive response based on junk journalism.

Q: If the F-35C is such a failure, why did the world’s largest user of the STOVL F-35B also buy the F-35C?
There are two services using the C model — the US Navy and US Marines (as the largest user of the F-35B).
22 months after the 1st US Navy squadron declared its IOC for the F-35C, the 1st US Marine Corp squadron declared its IOC.
I know it is difficult understand, but if you bother to read the 3 threads on the F-35, you might learn something.

Wonder what the advantage is over landing in the direction the carrier is moving, emergency landing, easier aircraft spotting?
I suspect it is just testing for F-35B landing performance with different wind over deck conditions of the LHA.

The attached article details the results of the F-35C loss in the SCS. Pilot error was the cause. The shit hot landing manoeuvre is now banned. Interesting information on the automated landing controls (which the aviator forgot to switch on). Expensive event, $120k to repair the carrier deck, $2.5 million to repair a EA-18G, and of course 120million plus for the F-35C. Then there is the cost of training the aviator who will likely never fly off a carrier again.
