Avalon Airshow 2007

Super Hornets and F15s are two things I've never seen in the flesh (well, flying anyway), so that's not "a dud" to me! Plus Chuck Yeager is there, some flash aerobatics going on no doubt, and add to that one of the last dump and burns many of us will ever see!

Whether other interesting stuff turns up, maybe they just don't wanna commit much until right before it? Also, is there usually any euro stuff there? Nothing mentioned thus far. :(

They got kinda burned two years ago by leaking that there were going to be F-117s and possibly a B-2 flyby there, so this time they're keeping tight-lipped so as to not get any backlash from aircraft no-showing.

LANDEF 2007 will have the following which will all be worth seeing.

Australian M1A1SA

Dutch PzH-2000

MAN's "X" series of Military trucks.

And undoubtedly there will be many more ground vehicles with Avalon's increased emphasis on the Land component.

I would particularly like to see some of the candidates for the Small part of Project Overlander i.e. the Pinzgauer, G Wagon (could the full armoured body G Wagon fly in from IDEX?:) ), Renault Sherpa etc.

so they've just replaced the F16 display with the super bug? 2001 we had F15, F16, B1B, AH 64 Apachie, F18, F111 and C17 all flying, with EF2000, F35 and Tiger non flying displays. Best air show i've ever been too. Now it looks like F15, Super bug, bug and F111. Thats it??? Dud show for sure (apart from the super bug, hanging to see her fly).

A RAAF C-17 will be there, no doubt putting on displays too. A first. Tiger ARH should be flying too.

There will be non-flying mockup of the F-35 apparently and I'm certain every other ADF type will be flying displays. Overall with confirmed Rhino displays it should surpass 2005, particularly with LandDef operating simultaneously...

Its sposed to be an airshow, as much as I like to see vehicles up close, unless they have a few Abrahms rolling around the grass, its just fluff.

A cannot think of any other event where you have to buy tickets to something and not know what it is going to be!

The mob I am flying down with called today and asked "If I was still interested in going to Avalon" maybe a poor choice of words, but it only makes me more suspicious.

I just hope its better than that "history of flight" job where all that old crap took up half the day!

We can only hope its full of surprises, like that air to air refuelling display by the RAAF for example!

I just dont get the reason for not announcing the program. Given the Grand Prix is so close to Avalon this time arouond, I would have thought the organisers would be flogging this to death by now!

Probability ratio just went up today. Looks like I have some meetings at Avalon so I will get to see something. Only on trade days though at the moment.

Its interesting, the list of freeloaders with pseudo connections to the aircraft industry is enormous. If you are anyone from a youth worker wanting to find a kid a job cleaning toilets to a detailer wanting to clean planes, you can get in for free on the trade days.

The rest of us too lazy to be creative have to just pay the 45 bucks.

USAF site says they will be making a significant contribution. Ive asked Kadena for any info they can supply, but wont hold my breath.

Once the trade days start we should have some good info.

Might head down to the paddock across from the freeway on Thursday and sit in the grass. Always wanted to do that. I reckon its a good spot as as a.c always turn over that spot.

Its like free beer at a wharfies picnic

I used to run the night time security teams for the Adelaide Grand Prix, from my exp, the best security clearance is if you are a cleaner - you just about get to go everywhere.

I've never actually seen much on the outside, I invariably am caught up yakking in the tents...

The only thing worrying me is the presence of a B1 in mickk's list. Someone might start a rumour about B1s and the RAAF! :D

From my limited knowledge based on previous shows, the list kinda makes sense. Most have been at the shows Ive been to.

Refuellers for the jets, cargos for parts, chuck in a few helis to fill em up.

Some drawcards for the crowds.

Just wish they would all taxi at least for some good photo ops.

I really was hoping for an A10 and of course a F22!

BUT I feel better now!

I must tell you, a few shows ago, we got driven past a hanger with 3 extra F16 in it. I asked a guy from the mighty sumos about it and he grinned and said:

"You dont think we are gunna let all this downunder without some back up do ya! Besides everyone wants to come downunder!"

Just to gloat.... I did see 6 ( I initially thought 7, but I'm sure one did some tarmac circle work for the benefit of the ground crew) of the F-22's that rotated through to Kadena. I was lucky enough to be in Hawai'i on a hold over when they arrived.

/gloat off :D

Err, in my experience at Gold Coast Indy (2002/3/4/5/6) Olympics 2000, CHOGM 2002, Goodwiil Games 2002, Davis Cup tie ANZ Stadium (2001), numerous international and state cricket matches at the Gabba, numerous conferences at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and numerous concerts at ANZ stadium (U2 twice, Madonna, Michael Jackson) I can categorically state that being a plain clothes police officer at these events is the best security clearance...

Virtually no-one realises who you are, you rarely need to DO anything and you can go ANYWHERE you like and the hourly rate is a tad better than a cleaner... :D

geez, when I was doing the GP the main day event cleaners were earning almost twice as much as anyone on ground - they even got to go through pit straight on main event days. even the police couldn't get through unless cleared by F1A.

and we did know who the PC's were as they needed a spec pass to get in... :D

Escape Training Facility, a Major Fleet Unit and a submarine alongside. The
support facilities to enable operations will be addressed in detail.

Mission Rehearsal Exercise (MRE)

- for operations in Iraq
Join fast jet aircrew training, visit radar surveillance control and reporting
units and experience the day to day activities at squadron and base level at
RAAF Base Williamtown (Air Combat Group). Indicative dates are 16 - 20
April, 30 April - 4 May, 4 - 8 June and 25 - 29 June 2007.

mate it was a dogs breakfast. it was a shared security site with MSS and Wormald. I was the Sierra 1 for Wormald, we could only direct an MSS guard if we had the MSS Sierra 1 in tow or if he granted approval.

Split command doesn' t even work well with "pretend" security...:nutkick
