Daytime. grande finale at about 5 oclock. Are F18E's booked for avalon? Id just about mess myself if we could russle up an SU 27 or MiG 29 but i dont supose there's any chance of that. I would definatly mess myself if they booked an F22! What do you guys think the chances of that would be in 2009?

Apparently a pair of F/A-18E/F's will be present at Avalon and will be performing a flying display too. I'd imagine if the announcement for the SH purchase is not made prior to that, then Avalon will be the perfect venue for this. Hopefully Defmin NELSON's advisers can manage to find the right aircraft to put him in front of for it... :)

As to the F-111, it made several passes in 2005, but the finale for the Friday evening show was the dump and burn display, conducted at about 9.00pm at night, at pretty low level.

I actually saw it from the airport at Avalon last time, because I was so tired after an early flight from Brisbane that morning and walking around in the sun all day.

Once again this year I'll be getting there first thing in the morning, but I'm staying in Melbourne for the weekend this year, so hopefully it won't be too bad...

So how many are going on the weekend then, general admission? I'm up north, last minute organised flights and got general tickets for the saturday with my old man, hopefully I can get some alright photos (got 480mm of 35mm equiv worth of reach available on my DSLR).

I haven't been to an airshow for many, many years (i.e. 15 years almost). Seen the usual F-111 dump and burns and the F/A-18s & Hawks zipping around occasionally since then, but that's it.

Please take pictures... Right now I'm unfortunately having to aim for Avalon 2009. :(

Could someone possibly manage a clip of the F-111 dump & burn?

-Cheers

i'll try and get some decent shots, got some great ones in 05, especially of the F15 doing a low passs, pluss the 75th aniversary F18, danm that looked good in those colours. I'll see if i can scrounge them up. Definatly try to get some dig video of the F111 this time, it might be the last time we see her there, maybe in 09.

F1-11 always does a daytime dump and burn at avalon.

ASDU site has been updated with this message

"Please note that the detailed Flying Display Programme will not be published before the Event."

That sucks, it only makes me think it will be a lame airshow, not a great one.

I intend to email them and vent my considerable anger at this decision.

I'm pretty sure I put all of my pics from Avalon 2005 into the Gallery, however I've got a nice new 1Gb memory card for my camera, so you can expect a HEAP of photo's from me put up intothe gallery come the end of March...

Cheers.

Hey guys, with this event getting closer, if anyone's looking for a cheap (ish) "Gold" ticket to Avalon, please PM me.

Through an unfortunate (and so far costly) set of circumstances I have a spare "Gold" ticket I'm willing to sell for the "Friday" session at a significantly discounted rate.

Regards

AD.

Is a flight to Aussieland included in this gold ticket?
If yes I would be interested. :D

AD, is it still valid on the saturday or just friday?
Seems to be just on the Friday, however I have made enquiries with Ticketmaster and am awaiting the response. I am not hopeful but I have asked whether I can cancel a ticket, exchange it for a "Saturday" ticket or whether I am stuck.

If anyone is keen for a Friday Gold pass, I am willing to sell it for quite a discounted rate, they cost $150.00 each, so I'll accept a loss, I'd just prefer NOT to accept a $150.00 loss...

What exactly is a gold ticket vs. whatever the other levels are?

The advantage is that you can go into the tents where all the displays of companies trying to sell products and services to the ADF are, several hours BEFORE everyone else is allowed in...

It's the most interesting part of the show, IMHO...

3 x f15c added to the website, but thats about all thats new.

By now there is usually a .af.mil post of whats heading downunder, but all so tightlipped this time around.

Either its a dud show, or security. Im thinking along the lines of a dud show at this stage. Theres no reason not to tell us whats going on unless there is not all that much!

As for security, sheesh, it was a bad world two years ago, but 2 years ago we had a full program by now!

3x F-15's are still 1x more than were there in 2005, plus there will be at least 2x Super Hornets and the Landdef show which to me to least is more interesting than the (non flying part) airshow...

Here's one of the recent announcements about the flying displays at Avalon:

AVALON AIRSHOW

Legendry test pilot Ricardo Traven will make a welcome return to Avalon for the Australian International Airshow 2007.

Traven, a Boeing Chief Test Pilot and the Super Hornet Air Show Demonstration Pilot, will put the F/A-18F Super Hornet through its highly impressive paces on each of the three “Trade Days” and three “Public Days” of the event.

Traven and the F/A-18F are among the star attractions scheduled to appear at Airshow 2007.

He last flew at Avalon in 2003.

Fully loaded the Super Hornet can carry an 8 tonne arsenal on 11 separate weapons stations and achieve speeds in excess of Mach 1.6. (Approx. 2,000 kph.).

Traven will demonstrate the full capabilities of the Super Hornet during a spectacular flying demonstration that will include a number of simulated combat manoeuvres, half-Cuban 8s, loops and high speed passes.

The man at the controls of the Super Hornet is widely regarded as being among the elite of his calling.

After an illustrious career in the Canadian Forces as a military test and fighter pilot, and instructing at the U.S. Navy Test Pilot School, Ricardo Traven joined The Boeing Company in 1997.

Since then he has been instrumental in the development of the Super Hornet program and has also flown as project pilot on NASA’s F/A-18 Alpha Research Vehicle.

Traven’s work with Boeing has seen him demonstrate the Super Hornet at air shows worldwide between testing various configurations of the Hornet, Super Hornet and the new EA-18G Growler.

He is among the most awarded members of his profession.

He was named U.S. Navy Test Pilot of the Year in 1995, and is a three-time recipient of the Ray E. Tenhoff Award from the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.

He has also won numerous awards for best overall flight demonstration of the Super Hornet.

During his career Ricardo Traven has flown more than 3,500 hours in more than 30 models of aircraft. He has logged more than 2,600 hours in all models of the Hornet, including 600 hours in the Super Hornet.

The Australian International Airshow 2007 will be staged at Avalon Airport Geelong between the 20th and 25th of March. Gates open to the public at 2pm on Friday 23rd March and at 8am on weekend days.

Host City Geelong is bracing for large tourist influx during the event as many thousands of Airshow attendees also take advantage of the many and varied tourist treasurers the Geelong Otway Region has to offer.
