6th Generation Fighters Projects

50% of the UK share would be silly. Germany would have to get some of both the UK & Italian shares for any redistribution of work share to make sense.

Well the rumored mix was 40/40/20.. I think quite a bit of that UK value would be in the engines alone with Rolls and IHI.. How movable that is to Germany is a good question anyway.

I certainly don't see Japan moving a single mm on their workshare. They aren't going to spend any time on it.

Japan got a lot of industrial development from F-2, e.g. in developing the first operational fighter AESA radar.
It was useful, even if the platform itself was not what they had hoped for the money invested. However, the end of the coldwar was a peaceful period, so it doesn't really matter that much, except that that is what they have right now to fly against J20s. The J20 is the real deal and a very capable aircraft. It is already being fielded in large numbers. China has enough local airframes they could sell them to... Russia?

English is a Germanic language. A bit of eye poking on my behalf. But it is possible that the UK and Germany and italy could work out a way to get Germany enough workshare they buy into the project. Japan is not the country who is going to do that. Japan is not equiped or interested in more european negociation.

Japan just announced its doubling its defence budget for the next 5 year period.

I believe this time around it is already too late for Japan to leave GCAP and back and revive toward their F-X (F-3) program. However as info that GCAP shares participation basically divided equally on three way between Japan, UK, and Italy, bringin new partner must be equally agrees upon by all three. Japan so far that shown reluctance to accept new partner (Germany in program).

Thus whoever wants to bring German to the equation in my opinion has to (basically) sell their participation shares. If both Euro partners want to bring Germany and Japan does not, as like any commercial ventures, parties that want to bring Germany are the ones that split shares with. Thus 66% divided into 22% each and Japan retain 33%, as giving Germany equal rights seem not in Japan interest. Off course the split must be agree by Japan, but does not mean Japan has to agree to split shares to bring another partner in.

One thing that in my opinion Charles did right in marrying Diana is he bring another blue blood that trace back (altough as not pure legitimate lineage) to House Stuart. That diluting his house more dominant German origin blood.
