From Keris FB, seems PAL on the process to install Aselsan CENK 350/Matehan Fixed Array AESA radar panels. This confirm so far that the installation will begin with Assets that part of Initial-Main contract. FFBNW assets, eventough the contract already execute, will be part on next instalation cycle.

From Indonesia Forum FB with id Markicap. Shown the 76mm main gun of OPV-98 is being tested.

The main force of TNI-AL is not the Frigates, but more on the Corvettes and Missile Boats. Presently it is the Parchim Corvettes and Luersen design FPB-57 FMB/FPB. Those FPB-57 being replace by indigenous designs KCR/KCP-60. More and more signs also shown Parchim corvettes replacement will be OPV-98 and Bung Hatta Light Corvette.

Three OPV-98 already contracted, 2 in the process of final installation, while the third still in building process in Batam. Batam made Bung Hatta class is not popular among many local enthusiats, however it is I believe more economical to build. In the end I don't think only one type will be choose to replace all 16 Parchim and also increase the number of Corvettes.

Found this in X from id Kristian Lobo who take picture of both SIGMA PKR 10514 being berth together with both PPA. Shown how PPA dwarved SIGMA PKR Light Frigate.

Some enthusiats talk about SIGMA PKR is the largest TNI-AL combatant ships before PPA being procure. However that's mistaken as the largest TNI-AL combatant was Van Speijk class Frigate before PPA enter operational TNI-AL portfolio.

Both PPA and FMP/Arrowhead 140 will become the mainstay of TNI-AL Frigate force. The FMP already got greenlight for 2nd batch of two. Will then PPA got greenlight for 2nd batch also ? Fincantieri work hard on that, and seems will face NG offer for FDI. Both NG and Fincantieri off course offer with local production.

Altough Turkiye Istiff already being talked on getting contract for Indonesia, however the nature of financing packages is not clear yet. The contract also is through UAE brokerage firm (that also order M346 and PC-24), thus mean the financing package that the brokerage firm offer not final yet with Indonesia finance guys. Until the financing packages got green light, meet finance guys criteria threshold, means it is not final effective contract yet.

Japan Defense Minister meet his Indonesia counterpart in Narita, during his counterpart transit flight from Washington DC. Put it in this thread as it is rumours that Japan want to export maritime defence assets to Indonesia as part Japan defence export initiatives and diplomacy toward southern Indies routes. Will see if 4+4 Mogami offer back to table, as also 2-4 second hand Oyashio SSK.

Rumours talk that Turkiye Istiff Frigate deal for Indonesia find substantial hurdle on Financing. Especially as the Gulf Financial Institution that want to back it up, now retreating due to US/Israel-Iran war. Present situation make Gulf FI did not want to further their financial exposure with relatively lower credit rating customers (compare to UAE or Qatar) which Indonesia and Turkiye belong to. Indonesia has BBB rating which altough Investment grade but on lower end. While Turkiye is BB which fall outside Investment Grade. Thus Turkiye really need Gulf FI to back their export financing packages, as their own FI will be hard pressed to provide competitive financing packages.

In other hand, Japan mostly can relied on their own AI that are global class and can easily provide competitive financing packages. So could Mogami replacing Istiff deal ? This why I repeatedly say in Indonesian thread. No matter how far the marketing lobby being done with Indonesian MinDef, in the end Finance Guys in Bapenas and MoF will provide final say to the President. Especially when they are satisfied on which Financing Package of the assets being marketed.

From a regional point of view, another 4, or 8, Mogamis, to add to Australia’s intended 11 and a posssible sale of two or hopefully three to NZ, would be an excellent thing. The sheer size of the potential Mogami fleet, 35 ships or so, would improve logistics and make the cost of upgrades less, and there would be terrific interoperability benefits - so here’s hoping.

The last time Japan offer Mogami on 4+4 scheme to Indonesia, it is lost to Italia with 6 FREMM. The FREMM deal then change to only 2 PPA, but with option more build in Fincantieri local partner yard at Batam.

One of main reason that I heard why Italia got the deal is the financing packages that Italia and Fincantieri can offer. Japan FI actually can provide more competitive packages then Euro FI. However when the offer come during Covid era, Japan FI still not really behind their Government effort on defense export. Japan FI still unsure on the internal politics for exporting defense equipment.

Now seems they are more wiling to support their government defense export Drive due to continue changes on Japan internal politics https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/japans-decade-long-march-towards-arms-exports-2026-04-15/. In sense Japan FI seems have more confidence that they will not get internal political backlash with supporting defense export.

Still Japan in Frigate deal in my opinion has to face Fincantieri and NG offer. I don't put Babcock as competitor as FMP actually being build more as Air Defense Frigate, thus not really in same catagory with more GP and ASW Frigate that PPA, FDI, Istiff and Mogami being marketed for. Indonesia also more familiar with Euro Naval system. So Japan in my opinion going to face uphill battle in Indonesia against more familiar Euro suppliers.

Slide from Yudi Supriyono FB

Danantara as the owner of all Indonesia SOE (State Owned Enterprise) shown slide on Investment plan this year and next from Defend ID. This is their subsidiaries that act as holding company for all SOE defense industry. They are doing Investment in two way, first PMN means they added the capital as direct placement. Other through non PMN which I presume it is more likely being done through share holder loan or financing.

In this thread I try to focus on item #8 and #9 of PMN Investment. This the talk for PAL to gain new facilities as expansion of yards (#8) and expansion of submarine facilities (#9). #9 shown that the facility that initialy being build to cater for DSME 209-1400 has to be adjusted for NG Scorpene Evo. #8 has been talk for sometimes, as present PAL facility is not sufficient enough anymore to handle more jobs.

FB_IMG_1776510849480.jpg

It is speculate before that PAL will take over private shipyard in Batam. However seems it is going to be still in East Java, at Lamongan Regency that still close to present PAL facilities in Surabaya city. The photo from PAL FB.

I presume PAL taking over shipyards in the area call PT. Lamongan Marine Industry and PT. Dok Pantai Lamongan https://jatimnow.com/baca-83857-pt-pal-ekspansi-ke-lamongan-siapkan-workshop-baru-dan-beasiswa-warga. It is relative small shipyard but from what I gather have relative large are to develop.

mainfacilities.jpg

Thus this is also reflected with previous announcement that PAL will become holding PAL Bakal Jadi Induk Holding BUMN Galangan Kapal, Bagaimana Nasib Karyawan? company for all SOE Shipyard. Considering despite all PAL problem, they are still the largest and healthiest SOE shipyard. Thus the capital I presume going to use on acquisition of new shipyards, and consolidation of all SOE Shipyard.

An Indonesia Navy (TNI-AL) admiral visit TAIS shipyard on Malaysia DSA 2026. Being given by TAIS on Istiff Frigate. Shown the marketing program is on going, and in my opinion now only find accepatable financing packages.

Probably the one good thing that came out of this Iran war for us if it killed this deal. Really do hope the emirati re-think this investment.

An Italian FB enthusiast put photo that claim Garibaldi left Taranto to Indonesia. I don't see official info especially from TNI-AL. However they did send 100 crew to train manned Garibaldi. whether this sail is part of that, it could be so. Personally I tend to see this is just part of training preparation.

FB_IMG_1776917177598.jpg

Looking on to previous crew training with both PPA, ussually it take two to three months on training for crews to familiarise with the ship. So I doubt the ship already being trained and prepared to sail to Indonesia. I even suspect the ship will go to Fincantieri facilities to be strip out from armament and combat system. The ship is plan to have substantial refitting with budget of USD 450 in Indonesia under Fincantieri and PT. PAL workshare.

On recent combine exercise, TNI-AL improvise using Mistral Launchers on SIGMA 10514 Light Frigate Heli deck as cheaper way to counter drones. This instead using more expensives VL MICA. Will then this mean TNI-AL will equip Mistral on their new Frigates instead just Corvettes ?

20260423_234851.jpg

At Kuala Kumpur DSA, PAL shown model of what seems new design corvettes. It has similarities on design with Noahtu OPV 98, but seems not having 76mm gun. Will see if this design will going to get into production. However again this shown, despite some Frigates build and procure, the nack bome of TNI-AL still smaller Corvettes and Patrol Vessels.

Many live fire exercises has Pulau Gundul as the main target, a small island (around 100 by 200 meters) just north of Jawa Tengah. It is just amazing this island still exists after all those years.

From Indonesian Forum member with ID Markicap, shown photo on the progress of OPV 98 instalation. Leonardo 76mm main gun already installed, so does Leonardo 40/70 which also being use as Makasar class LPD main gun. Hendsold TRS-4D as main radar also already installed. Seems mostly waiting on installation of Roketsan Atmaca.

Thus this comfirm the trend right now on TNI-AL, Leonardo, Aselsan and Roketsan seems getting more order, while Thales and MBDA has less recent order. While Hendsoldt seems tagging along with Leonardo and Aselsan. It it is not Turkification as Frenchie salesman claim in his ranting on social media or even print media.

From TNI-AL FB site, shown their new Hydrographic vessel KRI Canopus already in Mauritius on the way to Indonesia. Just like the second PPA, this vessel also took Africa and Indies route to avoid red sea and Middle East.

Being build in Batam, and integrate finalise in Germany, this type of Industrial collaboration can be happening on future. Altough it is build for Hydrographic function, it is been rumours that it can become 2nd mothership for SRV supply by UK FET.

Add:

Marina Militare site confirm that Garibaldi transfer process to Indonesia already secured Italy political agreement. Let see how far USD 450 Mio upgrade that being talk will be done by PAL and Fincantieri will bring. Some talk that to be more cost effective, the work should be done by Fincantieri but with PAL team tag along, instead done other way around.

Design of LST 120m, from Indonesia naval design firm, Terafulk Megantara. This is the design that follow Bintuni Class LST, that already in operation. Seems this is the design that being prepare to replace ex DDR Frosch class LST. Present Bintuni Class are replacing US WW2 LST and ROK build LST that being procured in 70's-80's.

The design although base on Bintuni class, shown in my opinion some aspects of Damen LST 120.
