Pretty nice looking Ship, can you tell me what the tower is mounted on the starboard side of the hanger?

Thanks for both :) both I was somewhat confused, until the picture, interesting design, could to see Italy is designing with its strengths in mind

Actually when I was about 10 I drew a stretched Anzac destroyer with matching 76mm front guns, nice to know that it was a feasible design :D

Love the looks of the Horizons, with the exception being the funnels. They're definetely a manifestation of function overruling aesthetics.

Their topside is appears more cluttered than I expected and while i like overal design, I'm not too hot about the stack arrangement.

Speaking aesthetically I think the only get that seems out of place to me is the Bridge super structure, I would of though they would make it a bit more angular

I agree the design is less "classical" but engineers ensure me that it is to enhance stealth characteristics and IR suppression.

cheers

The Forbin (the first French Horizon class vessel) is at sea trials too. As soon I've got the photos, I'm going to publish it.
But the French one is a little more different, with no 3rd 76mm gun. I've seen the external fire extinguishing system at work, it is cool...

Fincantieri production programmes

Unfortunately Fincantieri will work on Fremm modules starting mid-2007 but will not lay down the first 2 ships until March-April 2008...

Riva Trigoso shipyard will work on the 4 OPVs for Iraq, 2 big support ships for a civilian German company and a 130-metre megayacht for a very rich Russian businessman.
Muggiano will be busy with the sea trials of Cavour and Doria, and with the fitting out of the Duilio (2nd Horizon).

The 3rd and 4th U212A are likely to be confirmed for building as of 2008 in Muggiano.

ciao.

Only if the Govenament place the order   ... Navy waits also for the new LPD/LHD :shudder
AFAIK U212A is a higher priority than 4th LPD/LPH, since the option for 3rd and 4th expires after 2008 ...
Beyond the 2 U212A, the 4th LPD, you also have 2 AOR to replace Stromboli and Vesuvio... and most of all, only the first 2 FREMM are fully financed so far.

If you have a chance to read the details of the Stato di previsione del bilancio 2007 write back please

ciao

She looks similar, not exactly, but similar to the British Darings. I assume that's because the British were involved with the Horizon project for a lengthly time. She'll be welcomed addition to any NATO operating group. Very well done Italy. And lets not forget France and the United Kingdom too.
