1. Back on 17 May 2021, France held a conference in Paris, chaired by Emmanuel Macron, in support of Sudan’s then democratic transition that has now failed — Abdel Fattah al-Burhan & Abdallah Hamdok represented Sudan.
2. The U.S. State Department has announced that they have gotten the Sudanese Armed Forces and their paramilitary opposition, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to agree on a 72-Hour Ceasefire
3. As of Apr 2023, the Juba Peace Agreement of 3 Oct 2020 is dead.
4. Conflict mapping efforts on the urban battles in Khartoum seem to initially indicate that the UAE supported RSF have an upper hand against the Egypt supported Sudanese Armed Forces, with a lot more fighting to be expected.
5. The US embassy staff in Khartoum have been evacuated in 3 Chinooks. Given the fact that the armed groups had MANPADs, it was essential that Gen. Milley & the AFRICOM commander spoke to both sides prior to the American embassy evacuation.
6. The TNI will establish a logistics tail in Port Sudan to provide security for the evacuation process. After which they will push forward troops. In contrast to the more cumbersome Saudi / Indonesian effort staged from Port Sudan, the European effort (aka French, Spanish, & German troops & SF teams), have created a temp security bubble around an airfield in Omdurman (just outside Khartoum), to aid evacuation.

(a) The RSF is fighting the Sudanese Armed Forces in the Northern District Khartoum and in the City of Omdurman.
(b) On 17 Apr 2023 (Mon), EU Ambassador to Sudan Aidan O’Hara was assaulted by a group of men at his residence in the capital city of Khartoum.
(c) Wim Fransen, head of the EU’s humanitarian agency in Sudan, was shot amid fighting in the country’s capital Khartoum on 18 Apr 2023 (Tues), a European Commission spokesperson said.

(a) As an antidote to the dangerously misinformed, Jack Murphy provides important considerations behind the Noncombatant Evacuation Operations (NEO) process & how forces like the 82 Airborne’s Immediate Response Force (IRF) to be used — the IRF was not used for the NEO mission.
(b) The Saudi embassy also led a road convoy out of the conflict zone. Likewise, the British embassy has also been evacuated.

(a) An air bridge has been re-opened in Sudan. The French, Spanish and Germans are making good use of a lull in fighting to get their people trapped by the fighting out. Around 400 Germans and nationals from more than 20 countries, including UK have so far been evacuated in flights from Khartoum Sudan. The three governments have already negotiated safe passage through the city with both the Sudanese army and the RSF. Evacuees were then packed ‘like sardines’ into A400Ms and flown to Djibouti.
(b) The RSF & Sudanese Armed Forces are trigger happy. Embassy staff have been killed in the fighting — an Egyptian embassy staffer in Khartoum was killed on 24 Apr 2023 (Mon), said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry. Mohamed al-Ghawary, an assistant administrative attache, was killed on his way to the Egyptian embassy, said the statement.
(c) The Malaysian government evacuated 14 Singaporeans for us — who are smart enough to tag along with Malaysians in Sudan. Thank you, Malaysia. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Military Intelligence, GUR, has conducted an operation to evacuate people from Sudan. 87 Ukrainian citizens were evacuated. The Ukrainians also brought dozens of Georgians and Peruvians out with them. They are all now in safety in Egypt.
7. Macron on Sudan:“Sudan is in the throes of violent clashes. A first plane repatriating our compatriots, European nationals & other countries, has just landed in Djibouti.
I salute the mobilization of our armies & the agents of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
