ruaviation.com reports that the Russian Air Force's six remaining An-22 Antei transport aircraft will be overhauled to keep them in service until 2020.
The main reason for this is that currently there are not enough An-124 Ruslan available to carry out all necessary flights.

At the moment no, not enough An-124.
But in a few years this will change for the better.
New build An-124, newly overhauled An-124 and new build IL-476 will emerge.

The other reason is that the An-70 program is encountering delays.

Well, the anouncement that the An-70 would enter service within two years from now already sounded a bit overoptimistic.
And what about the planned MTA? is there any progress being made?

Not a smart move.. Those Mig-25 are at a point of unoperational status. Their engines are no longer in production. Very hard to get spares. What would an overhaul cost?

Naah, better get those Recon-Pods for Su-24MR/34 ready ASAP.


On a different note. IAPO produced Su-30SM will hit State trials this year, which goes to show IAPO are in good shape.
Along with 15 more Yak-130 being handed over.

It could be done, but at what cost.
It would require masive redesigning and tweaking of those Mig-25..

So my answer would be no, it can't be done realisticly.

Is it possible to modify and fit the remaning MiG-25 with MiG-31 engines?
It would be easier to modify a number of existing MiG-31s (there's a ton of surplus aircraft) with upgraded recon gear, to give then capabilities beyond those of the MiG-25s.

Among other interesting news apparently a new AESA radar based on the Zhuk-A is being developed for MiG-29 aircraft, for the VVS and an unnamed export customer (most likely India). This is probably not truly a new radar, but just a modification of the already under development Zhuk-AE, for the upgraded MiG-29 aircraft. The radar is supposed to be larger then the Zhuk-A used on the MiG-35 in the Indian tender.

Would of thought that they would be focusing on UAV's to take the role of the MiG-25 ECR aircraft, which are very dated...

On the long term time line they are focusing on UAV's, but as Feanor says, its still too little and too late on that area..

But i still question the cost effectivness of putting those Mig-25MR back in operational service.

I suspect stores of spares exist that would make it possible to keep the existing birds flying. The new sensors might be in the form of making them compatible with the recon pods being developed for the Su-34. That would make a lot of sense, and be fairly cost efficient, given that it will be some time before the Su-34 is present in such numbers that it can fly strike, EW, and recon missions.

Among other interesting news, the Pantsyr-S1 is being modified for Land Forces usage. It will probably be a variant similar to the tracked variants Algeria received.

Well what about the 24 hour endurance Dozor-600 UAV? Or it was rejected by the MoD?
Did it participate in the state trials? The ones that every single participant failed?

On another note, the Il-76MD-90A, also known as the Il-476, just had it's first flight. It's taken them long enough...

Which existing systems will be replaced by the Pantsyr? Only the ZSU-23 or also the Tunguska?
The current VVS variant replaces nothing. It's added into S-300/400 units. The Land Forces variant will probably eventually replace both.
