The E-2C would have to be starting to get close to their takeoff/landing limits unless they had a similar SLEP to the C-2's wouldn't they?

C-2 SLEP more then doubled the number of takeoff/landing cycles they were rated for.

Bit of a stunner this one, despite announcements to the contrary, here we have the announcement we've waited for - EMALS for the POW:

Defence Security Report
Read with care, & you see that Liam Fox is not reported as saying that we're getting EMALS for PoW, but EMALS for a British carrier. The author of the article assumes that he means PoW, probably based on a preconception that PoW is scheduled for cat & trap.

We'll find out the truth eventually, but for the moment I'm not going to make any assumptions about which carrier this kit is for.

Converteam will have to settle for EMKIT UAV launchers on smaller ships, & maybe try to sell to Brazil or whoever in the future.

I'm assuming it's PoW largely on the basis that it'd be reported previously that the QE is too far into build to convert. If they can get it into QE, I'm happier yet.

Either way, it's almost irrelevant which gets what right now, I'm just happy someone's made a firm decision and I no longer have to listen to retards carping on about how no solid plans exist etc etc (usually from people living in countries with a Navy consisting of a rubber dinghy and one paddle)

Indeed! It's nice to be able to tell the carpers to shut up. I was getting worried by the talk about a decision next year.

I'd have liked to see British-built catapults, but I can't argue with the logic of buying EMALS. Development paid for, de-risked, & piggy-backing on the USN supply chain. What's not to like?

I hope EMKIT does manage to sell some UAV launchers, though.

Bring back the WW1 dazzle camouflage. Recent tests reconfirmed it actually does work in confusing the naked eye!

As the T26 will receive equipment from the upgraded T23's (CAMM etc.), I don't see why at least 4 x T45's can't be retrofitted in the same way with T22 Harpoon launchers when they are scheduled to be upgraded with Phalanx.
Talking about T26s, I was at DSEi today and while using the BAe stand as a shortcut between meetings with other companies (sorry BAe!) spotted this model of the Global Combat Ship.

Apologies for the low quality but I was running late. I'll try to get a better shot when I'm back on Thursday. There's a Merlin model on the flight deck and 36 cells behind the gun - I might be wrong on the exact count, was walking fast.

This is the thing - if E-2 production relies on picking over C-2 aiframes, then the E-2C frames won't ever be available secondhand and there's no way the RN can afford E2-D brand new.

Rik's earlier comments about a UAV capability may bear fruit as sticking the processing end of things into a CIC on a ship, or better yet, fusing it seamlessly with the ship sensors using CEC seems sensible.

Right now, we need something cheap as chips that gets out beyond the horizon at sea level, or we're in for an exciting time if we get into a shooting war.

Here you go

QinetiQ and Northrop Grumman to Develop Gazelle-Based ISR Rotary-Wing UAV for Royal Navy: key.Aero, Military Aviation

Plenty of airframes, just need to find a suitable radar fit data-linked to CVF / Albion / Ocean. Cheap and cheerful over the horizon coverage able to deploy aboard a wide variety of RN assets.

The RN has a history of making the most out of legacy platforms - this could form the basis of the new 'Bagger'.

Cheers for that - the front end looks quite a bit different than I remember it - if you get any more images, I'd love to see 'em,

I suspect the model is of one of a number of concepts floaing around, I seem to recall that one as being similar to one that appeared in a powerpoint presentation I saw on Warships1 a couple of years ago.

But then again there were reports about the type 26 being reduced in size to save money and this does seem smaller.........

I believe it'd been trimmed from 5500 to 5000 tons - bit of vagueness on the displacement but I think that was the empty config, which would put the FLD near a Daring, even after the cut.

I know what you mean - proportionwise, it looks like a Gowind...

I'm back there tomorrow and will try to get some more, ask questions and have a look around the back to see if there's any sign of the mission bay.

Look forward to hearing back on it...

I think November is the next key date for the project.

Sunseeker East Africa safe transit option?
Holiday time!

I know, lets go play with some pirates!

Sun Seeker Portofino 48 with a machine gun bolted on the front and a matt black paint job then?

Ok, i'll stop now.....

Interesting Model, T26 must be getting close to a contract being signed if the first ship is to commission in ~2018.
