We just beat England....OW YEAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our quarter final hopes are ALIVE, I was one of the millions celebrating on the streets of our beloved Dhaka. Good job Tigers!

Strauss will have a lot to think about if they loose the next match then their quarter final chances wil be slim. The absence of Broad was felt to day.

What awesome bowling and fielding from both sides, I really gave up hope of winning when we were 8 wickets down and needed over 50 runs to win but our Shafiul and Mahmudullah did us proud and paid testamen to the old saying its not over till the last bowl is bowled.

WOOHOOOOO!

Great game. In the last moments I was cheering for BD just like I cheer for Pakistan. Another upset with England in this World Cup.

I don't think win is the objective of Ireland and other associate teams in this World Cup. They are just out to prove they deserve to be in this tournament and others to come. ICC has decided to have only 10 (test) teams in the next world cup saying associate teams learn nothing. Here is what they have learned:

1979 Sri Lanka beats India
1983 Zimbabwe beats Australia
1996 Kenya beats West Indies
1999 Bangladesh beats Pakistan
2003 Kenya beats Sri Lanka
(2007 Bangladesh beats India)
2007 Ireland beats Pakistan
2011- Ireland beats England

.
Another game goes to the list of world cup upsets.

2011-Bangladesh beats England

BTW you missed out Bangladesh's victory over South Africa in the super eights of 2007.

For some reason England are proving to be the chokers in this tournament, they were almost beat by Netherlands and lost to Ireland and Bangladesh, the level of English cricket started seriously deteriorating after their Ashes victory. I mean player wise, they have the strongest Batting line up after India and have some of the best pacers and according to me the current greatest spinner in the world Graeme Swann, they were one of my top favorites for this year's cup.

Their next match against the Windies will be do or die for them.

That over from Swann where he got hit for 16 runs really was the turning point.

I know I am posting this a bit late but what a great match the Inida vs South Africa one was, the master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar defied a fierce South African bowling attack to score his 48th ODI century and his 99th International century(he has scored 51 Test centuries). Even though India lost the match Sachin's century was the highlight, he has already added two centuries to his belt in this tournament.

The match was a very crucial one, India was off to a flying start thanks to Ballistic opener Virender Sehwag, at one stage India were at 267-1 with over 8 overs to spare and looked set to score 370-80, and with a batting order to die for this score was easily reachable, but that was not to be. Something which can only be described as a phenomenol Batting collapse took place and India lost 9 WICKETS for only 29 runs! Dale Steyn came back and took a 5 wicket haul.

The South African Batting order started to chase it down with some serious solid batting from in form Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers and Jaque Kallis

Inida made a lot of mistakes that day with losing 9 wickets from 29 runs being the largest, how ever the match was still any body's game till the last over (Thanks to a good spell from Zaheer Khan in the 49th over) Dhoni then made the mistake by giving the last over to Ashish Nehra instead of experienced spin maestro Harbhajan Singh.

The Kenya vs Australia game tonight was good to, it was the first game where Kenya actually performed in a=way that showed that they deserved to be in the world cup, Collins Obuya missed out on a much deserved century scoring 98 not out.

Any ways Tomorrow is a big day for Bangladesh where we face off Against NetherLands, a win in this game is a must for us and we need to be in good form.

The Dutch have some really good Batsmen on their side with Ryan TenDoeschate being the dangerman, his early removal will be crucial to our success. Bangladesh is going to bank heavily on our spinners, Left Arm spinner Shohrowardi Shuvo who had a good series against New Zealand could be included.
Any ways GOOD LUCK TIGERS!!!

We Beat NetherLands! It was a comfortable 6 wicket victory! In form opener Imrul Kayes who scored 60 against England(for which he got the Man of the Match award) scored a great un beaten knock of 73 to see us off to a victory.

Our Bowlers once again did the job for us by restricting NetherLands to a very modest 160, Dutch superstar Ryan Ten Doeschate top scored in his side with 53 runs, our veteran left arm spin meastro Abdur Razzak continued his good form by picking up 3 wickets.

We were off to a bad start when our dashing opener Tamim Iqbal got out for zero runs, how ever Imrul and Junaed steadied the innings with a good partnership until Junaed fell for 25, next came in Shahrier Nafees, possibly the greatest bangali batsmen, who had been sidelined from International cricket for a long time for joining the renegade ICL. Nafees who currently has the second highest abtting avg of the team after Shakib made a good 31 before unnecessarily losing his wicket.

This victory keeps us in the run for a place in the Quarter Finals, if West Indies beat England in their next match *which I really hope they do) then we are instantly qualified for the quarters with 6 oints, how ever if England wins then we will have to win our next match against top Favourited South Africa to get a shot at the qualifying eight.

In the other game of the day Pakistan cruised to the Quarters with a big win over Zimbabwe( surprise, surprise). Asad Shafiq hit a good nock and remained un beaten on 78 to guide Pakistan to an easy 7 wicket victory, Zimbabwe had put up a score of 157-7before rain stopped play and according to the D/L method Pakistan had to chase 162 from 40 overs.

In Yesterdays game Newzealand had posted an easy victory over Canada thans to in form opener Brendon McCullum and In form mid order batsmen Ross Taylor.

Umer gul is getting in to his rhythm with every match.I still feel we should replace Abdul Razzak with the off spinner Ajmal.Asad shafique reminds me of Mickel Clarke. He's a good find.Seems like he's going to replace Younis khan ultimately.

So, Pakistan entered the quarter finals.Today commentators were discussing the prospects of India Vs Pakistan in a quarter final match and the summary was,if every highly ranked team beats every lowly ranked team (as expected), then it's expected that both rivals will meet again in the quarterfinals after 1996.:ninja

Some IFs

If Australia beat Canada, they move to the top of Group-A. And then if Sri lanka beat new zealand on 16th, they could move to the top of group-A as as well, pushing Australia in the 2nd spot. If pakistan beat australia on 19th, then Pak moves to the top. If New Zealand beat sri lanka on 16th, they keep the top spot.

If New Zealand win, Australia beat both Canada and Pakistan, Australia moves to top of Group-A, NZ on 2nd spot, and Pakistan 3rd place while Sri Lanka at 4th, will have to deal with India or South Africa at the top and B2 (2nd from group B) will have to play Pakistan. So, couple of tough matches for Pakistan ahead!

Group-B is still wide open and anything can happen as Irish play South Africa and Bangladesh need to win their next game as well!

Group wise. Group A has always been easy to prdict, there are only 4 good teams and all of them will go through to the Quarter Finals. Australia hasn't faced much of a challenge yet, the only good game they were about to have (Australia vs Srilanka) was wahsed out, their match against New Zealand could have been great but New Zealand had a really bad day on that match. I am really excited about the Australia vs Pakistan match With Pakistan in stable form Australia's increadible unbeaten record could come to an end.
FYI Autralia has not lost a single world cup match in the last 3 world cups 1999, 2003, 2007 and currently 2011. The only spots on their perfect record are the 1999 semiFinal draw against South Africa and their recent match washout against Sri Lanka. Damn thats a record, I am pretty sure no other team will ever be able to match.

Group B is a slightly tougher group with 5 test playing nations and the top wo ascossiate nations, this group has been by far the most competetive group with upsets every where, there were very few one side matchs and the matches that the top raned nations won against the minnows were hard fought.

Back to today's events South Africa beat Ireland by a big margin of 131 runs to become the first team in Group B to qualify for the Quarter Finals with 8 points from 5 games and with one more macth to against Bangladesh.
South Africa bat first and quickly fell into trouble when ther top order was destroyed by Ireland at one point they were 117 for 5 and Ireland seemed to head for another upset
but that was not to be a beautiful 99 from JP Duminy and some solid batting from the Proteas' low mid order and low order batsmen meant that they put up an imposing 273 in 50 overs. The Ireland batting order did not stnd a chance aginst the viscous South African bowling attack even though a good no. of batsmen got starts.

Guys words cannot describe the disappointment that gripped my heart and the hearts of the 160 million people of Bangladesh when West Indies lost a match they were winning from the start, it was like they seized defeat from the Jaws of victory. Their victory over England would have meant that Bangladesh would qualify to the quarters and England would crash out.

The WI had the backing of every single man, woman and child in my country, when England started losing wickets the excitement spread like wild fire, never before had a match between two teams matter so much to third party. Every English wicket was greeted with deafening roar from all the people who were glued to their TV sets and radios and when England were 188/6 and later 216/8 celebrations were every where but some good batting from the lower order meant that England reached a respectable total of 243, but when Smith and Gayle started their impressive Batting everyone was sure that England would lose, but then wickets started falling and the captain came in and brought things to a stable postion and looked to finish the game but another collapse took place and this time effectively killed the West Indies Batting attack and the match lost and along with it came a tsunami of disappointment.

But hope is not yet gone as tomorrow is our epic clash with South Africa, the reult of this match will decide the fate of Bangladesh, West Indies and England which two of the three teams will head to the quarters.

On Todays matches, Ireland beat Netherlands by 6 wickets despite the fact that ton manRyan Ten Doeschate got the Dutch to a huge total of 306, some great batiing from the Irish side(mostly by centurion Stirling and Captain Porterfield and mid order Niall O Brian) sealed their victory. These two teams are the pride of the associates and both leave the tournament with a lot of allocade, whatever Lorgat says these two side deserve to be in the 2015 edition of the world cup.

Sri Lanka also beat New Zealand thanx to a century from in form captain Kumar Sangakkara and a half century from batting maestro Mahela Jayawardena and of course some awesome bowling from the Legend Murali.

On a related note Pakistani pace legend Shoib Akhter announced that he is going to retire after the world cup.
He has done a lot for Pakistani cricket and has had a great career( if you over look the drugs abuse charges, corruption charges, disciplinary charges, suspensions, banishments and getting kicked out of county cricket, yeah other than that a great career!);)

After a great victory against Australia,Pakistan goes on top of their group. Now the conditions are bit simple.
If India beats West Indies ,it's Pakistan against West Indies in the Quarter final.
If West Indies beats India then Pakistan will have to face England. And luckily both matches are in Dhaka. It's just like Pakistani team playing in front of the home crowd. With Bangladesh losing it's way,i hope Pakistan will get a lot of support from them "as always."

On the other hand if India loses to WI ,she'll have to face Srilanka in the Quarterfinals and if the opposite happens,it's Australia they'll have to play against.

We just got kicked out of the world cup.:bum
And that too with another PATHETIC batting display. This sucks. I mean if we had a decent run rate we still could have had a shot at the quarters( If WI lost to India).

Any ways at least Pakistan's victory helped stop my moaning a bit. Ow... I cant explain how long I have been waiting to see Australia( especially Ponting) to fall. Not that I have any thing against Ponting, but its just that, in his glory days he was one Arrogant and obnoxious SOB.( sorry about the swaering mods)

Any ways it means from Group-A Pakistan, Srilanka, Australia and New Zea land qualify for the quarters, with Pakistan at the top. And in Group B India, South Africa, England and West Indies qualify.

You don't have to worry about that Sub - Continental teams (especially Pakistan) are very popular here.

Oh well, you guys will have a chance in the 3 ODI's after the World Cup to continue Mr Ponting's "misery", if you're up to the challenge...

Ponting is a tired man. He has done his job and made his legacy. Got 2 World Cups under his captaincy. Time for him to retire.

IF Ponting will lead the charges in the series. If the world cup goes your way and Australia wins it for the third time then Ricky will probably be rested, rather than played against us and if you have an early exit, his captaincy could very well be stripped and he could even retire.

West Indies got thrashed by India thanx to another brilliant performance from in form all rounder Yuvraj Singh, who scored a beautiful century.

So Pakistan faces West Indies in BD and India faces Australia.

The India vs Australia match is one I am seriously looking forward to.

I may not like the guy, but two unbeaten world cups as captain, wow, that's one hell of a record, with his unbeaten 140 against Inida in the Final of the 2003 WC his crowning achievement.

I agree. His records are amazing, but unlike Tendulkar, his star has definitely faded in the last 12-15 months or so and shows little sign of getting close to what he was at his peak.

He is one that definitely deserves to go at a time of HIS choosing, not anyone else's, but I hope for his legacy's sake, he is wise enough to make the decision himself, rather than get pushed...

Given Australia is going to Bangladesh straight after the World Cup, it may be an excellent opportunity for a swan-song for Ricky. 3 more games to finish his career, hopefully on a high note.

Australia has a considerable break from cricket after the next few weeks, before any other series are coming up, so we'll see what happens I guess...

AD

I don't think it will matter. Even if we lose badly against India and are out of the tournament, he is unlikely to be stripped before the Bangladesh series as there is a considerable break for Australia after those 3 games.

Many things can happen in a week they say. Australia will have months to decide what to do and in that time a big review currently underway into Australian cricket will be completed. At the very least, our current selection board and coach are expected to be looking for new jobs as an outcome of our Ashes failure.

Ricky might be too...
