Russian missile systems comparison

I've read recently that Russian missile systems such as the BM30 tend to be more accurate than the US' homebuilt MLRS M270. I may be reading an old 1990's Tom Clancy book, but it seems the M270 has the better shot in comparison. Any opinions?

About what kind of difference are we talking here?
As these weapons are area saturation weapons the accuracy of the individual rocket is not all that important unless the rocket misses the whole target grid.

This doesn't surprise me if a Russian is saying the BM30 is better. And of coyrse Tom Clancy is going to say the M270 is the best thing around. I agree with Waylander. Be moré specific.

Yes, all that. And answer the question please. I've got other sources, but Tom Clancy was the main claim. :)
I think Waylander should have you pointed in the proper direction that you seek, they do not call them map grid square removers for nothing. depending on specific rocket may I add with U.S advancements in computer software, guidance systems and GPS technology that this could be a deciding factor. But then again when you live by the Russian artillery usage princible of; screw that stinking precision fire, when in doubt wipe it all out.:shudder does it really matter.

And that's exactly why the tsar bomb was created! :D

Well, I may be a little loopy, but under the assumption that NATO has the "electronic" lead over the years thanks to something called, Capitalism, then the Russians should be catching up in the regards. But anywho, the BM-30 is indeed a more powerful(in terms of pure munitions) compared to the M270, but I honestly do not know about it's accuracy and hell, it's guidance system. But chances are, the Ruskies use GLONASS(which is equivalent to GPS) for their rocket guidance, than yeah, they should be relatively accurate.

Of course, there were no GPS-guided anything back in 90x, let alone 80x. BM-30 was always more powerful than M270 (more heavy rocket, wider ammunition choices, higher range). It also had better accuracy - about 2 mils for standard BM-30 rocket and about 4 mils for M270. But M270 rockets were constantly improved in accuracy and range - first 3mils accuracy, then 2 mils and GPS.

I would say back in later 80x BM-30 was in another league compared to M270.

The BM-30 does not use GLONASS at this time, in Russian service. A new model of the BM-21 and BM-30 which will use GLONASS has been developed, but the modernization package has yet to reach the line units.
