the paratroopers and the nsg were till now using the indian air force mi-17's,however indian governement has already placed orders for the c-130' from usa(6 aircrafts),and have issued tenders for a heavy transport helicopter, they are also planning to acquire the c-17 globemaster-3 as a replacement for the il-76,initial order is likely to be for 10 aircrafts, indian air force has also acquired the ah-101 the vip version of eh-101 which can also be modified for troop transport role, besides these the indian border scurity force operates mi-17's and embraer lagacies .I dont get it isnt the Indian Army building a Combat Aviation Brigade and for which is the only armed platform going to be the WSI Dhruv ?? Its just weird logic or no logic. Do you know if the Paratroopers or the NSG has acquired its own dedicated Air Assets
indian army's operation of only heavy transport helicopters or the lack of a true attack helicopter is nothing new, take for example whose attack helicopter roles were met by the weaponsied version of the dauphins and s-70 black hawks,it is only now that the chinese governement is focussing on dedicated attack helicopter programmes(wz-10).
