other than being round i see no similarities.Just compare the two engines. The marked parts are more or less equally sized (BTW, what is this part called in english? ... No wait, what is it even called in German? Antriebswelle?).

nice that puts to rest the leopard engine rumorAnd that's exactly what is interesting.
If the photo really shows the korean engine than they managed to make it very, very small but with the same hp.
Yepp, that's what I wanted to show, the Koreans managed to squeeze the same power into an engine only one quarter the size. Even besides the fact that the Leopard 2's engine is more than 40 years old that is still very amazing. And that's exactly what is interesting.

The first picture shows the engine + gearbox + airfilters + ...It looks like it is even significantly smaller than the Europowerpack which is available from MTU or the 1500hp turbobar which is installed in the Leclerc.
So I remain a little bit sceptical but if it is reality (With the same power and reliability) than it would be an amazing engine.
europowerpack doesn't have the gearbox integrated. Its mounted separately. The first picture shows the engine + gearbox + airfilters + ...
The second picture shows just the engine, which seems to be about the same size in both pictures. Greatest changes in the power pack size cound be achieved by reducing the size and layout of the gearbox and other accessessories.

A tank engine with no airfilters will have REALLY short life.europowerpack doesn't have the gearbox integrated. Its mounted separately.
May be, but the engine in the first picture has transmission attached plus lots of other gear like cooling, airfilters, etc. All of this is missing in the second picture. You just cannot compare an complete powerpack and an bare stripped engine.
The xk-2 engine is water cooled so you wouldn't see air filters in the first place.
You do realize that on the Leo 2 photo that you have circled the final drive attachment point, and on the K2 photo it is the connection point between the tranny and engine, or is it that I am missing the point that you are making.Just compare the two engines. Uhm, no, I did not realize thatYou do realize that on the Leo 2 photo that you have circled the final drive attachment point, and on the K2 photo it is the connection point between the tranny and engine, or is it that I am missing the point that you are making.
Its been more than a year since I've visited this forum, much less this thread - but I'll say this - I dun linger long enough on any forum to bother with who is qualified as what.Letli, you do understand that Eckherl is Master Gunner qualified?
