Just compare the two engines. The marked parts are more or less equally sized (BTW, what is this part called in english? ... No wait, what is it even called in German? Antriebswelle?).

Im sorry but the engines look nothing alike. They both use fuel and move things?

Yepp, that's what I wanted to show, the Koreans managed to squeeze the same power into an engine only one quarter the size. Even besides the fact that the Leopard 2's engine is more than 40 years old that is still very amazing.
What rumors?
It looks like it is even significantly smaller than the Europowerpack which is available from MTU or the 1500hp turbobar which is installed in the Leclerc.
So I remain a little bit sceptical but if it is reality (With the same power and reliability) than it would be an amazing engine.

The second picture shows just the engine, which seems to be about the same size in both pictures. Greatest changes in the power pack size cound be achieved by reducing the size and layout of the gearbox and other accessessories.

europowerpack doesn't have the gearbox integrated. Its mounted separately.
The xk-2 engine is water cooled so you wouldn't see air filters in the first place.
A tank engine with no airfilters will have REALLY short life.

yes, ok i should of been more clear you can see the air intake on the xk-2 engine. You sure as hell dont need those massive air filters for a water cooled engine. I find it funny that you think they ripped out the air filters and took a picture.

You do realize that on the Leo 2 photo that you have circled the final drive attachment point, and on the K2 photo it is the connection point between the tranny and engine, or is it that I am missing the point that you are making.

I thought both of those were were the connection points between engine and the drive sprocket, if that is the correct name in English.
Its been more than a year since I've visited this forum, much less this thread - but I'll say this - I dun linger long enough on any forum to bother with who is qualified as what.
You either make sense or you dun. Any good forum should be self-correcting & self-regulating - something that depends on every poster to do so.
Maybe u aren't knowledgeable enough yourself to criticise what he says but he's not all knowledgeable, nobody else is.
I much prefer that you offer more by sticking to the gist of the thread rather than blind hero worship of ppl who are anonymous anyway & in all likelihood, faceless, non-verifiable and an unknown quantity.
