The above pic of the LCS is from the TWZ article:

I noticed 2 dome shaped things at the rear corners of the flight deck. Does anybody have any idea what they are? I'm going to assume they are related to mine sweeping, but I have no idea what they are , how they work.

Not sure, but they look like standard sized SATCOM domes to me. Not sure why you'd put them aft on the flight deck corners though. Could be a adhoc installation at the time the photo was taken.

Considering how we know of a laundry fire and plumbing issues on the Ford. It’s unlikely that the Lincoln being so much as scratched would stay quiet for long.
Iran right now seems to be living in the shadows of the Iraqi Information minister in 2003 and the Argentinian Airforces in 1982. Claiming victories everywhere and Carriers sunk both with “Trust me Bro!” As their evidence. Right up till the day the British scrapped her many Argentinians claimed HMS Invincible at the bottom of the Atlantic.
USS Lincoln was probably relocated due to shifts in the operations.

Even the evidence that she has been moved seems concocted- it describes her as “quivering in the Gulf of Oman”. Doesn’t exactly sound as if the reporter is objective.

This USNI article is a good summary of recent USN failures wrt new ships. The LCS and Constellation C-Fs are well known and no further comments are needed. The Zumwalt class mission morphing was the more significant issue for its semi-failure. The ship has potential to be useful. It was to be a IAMD ship. Had this mission not been cancelled due to cost, the ship would likely have been less costly than the AGS screwup and a hell of a lot more useful. With its IEP setup, it has ample power for energy directed weapons. Its large size will accommodate more missiles. The removal of one AGS turret from Zumwalt has made room for 12 hypersonic missiles. Would be interesting to know what removing the second turret could offer.

As for the the FFX, I guess time will tell if the USN can get it right. This tale of woe should be (and probably has been) a warning to the RCN and RAN wrt to mission creep on their T26 programs. The RN should hopefully have no surprises. As for River and Hunter, hopefully the same.

Basically it sat waiting for a slot in dry dock for 11 years because for 20 years the powers that be in Congress didn’t invest in maintaining the naval infrastructure. It’s a bipartisan success story for Russia and China.

This is more or less the same story as European and Canadian defense post Cold War. Only in the case of the U.S. it had so much backlog of equipment it’s taken a while to hit this point.
to turn this around requires a large long term commitment to reactive and regenerate facilities and capacity,

Yes, not only US problem as all Western allies have dropped the ball. However, SSNs are arguably the most important USN assets but the USN failed to impress upon Congress how badly their BS politics was screwing with national security albeit the dumb ass pollies should know this.

Other than maintaining fleet numbers (and these ships are not fully operational), the operating cost of just 3 Zumwalts doesn't make much sense if they are at least twice the cost of the Burkes. Sunk cost fallacy at work here.
More Zumwalts without the AGS turrets and add missiles (and DE weapons)might be a less expensive option than farting around with a DDG(x) design.

The hull of the Zumwalt and its propulsion system are probably the best bet to build a new DDG-X. Obviously no AGS but plenty of conventional gun systems or rail gun are an option. Missiles are a critical here.
the Three Zumwalts are sadly not what they were supposed to be. They were supposed to replace the Burke and open a new generation of Destroyer/Cruiser class but the end of the Cold War the changing times and a miss placed assumption of the mission needs lead to the truncated Zumwalt class.
