The Russian PAK FA fighter program, where will it go??

Yeah good point. The PAK-FA and JSF are of the same league. Meant for export. I read somewhere that India is in teh PAK-FA program just to gain expertize which will be directed towards the MCA. I guess the MCA will be the backbone of the IAF, and we might buy very few PAK-FA, that too under contractual obligations.

But don't you think it more like a bomber than a air superior fighter?

We really can't say anything so soon. It has just entered the planning stage and only after this has commenced can we comment with any authority. It is supposed to be a multi-role aircraft like the Raptor, EF and PAK-FA. I would expect it to be an improvement to the EF and PAK-FA, specifically customized for the IAF, but as I said we must wait for now.

i think the concept stage has been completed for the mca .it will take lesser development time than the lca .because quite a bit of it has been derived from the lca.

Yes I can second that, the MCA has passed the conceptual stage, has got the govt sanctioning and is now in the Planning stage.

i think the actual design stage should not take longer then 10 -15 years the Actual first prototype in another 1-2 year and then the all the testing about 4 year, i think it wil be right on time for the replacement of the Su30 don't you think.

i think there is an artist impression in the gallery. but it appears to be Really big bigger than the raptor but i doubt it will look like this when its designed or buit. i thinks its primary role would be similar to the SU30 in the IAF inventory. its still a concept so i think the Details would have to be Imagined too before the Actual Requirements are determined.

MCA (short for Medium Combat Aircraft) is an attempt by India to develop its own 5th (or in western standard 4th) generation fighter. It is a twin engine, tail less, multi-role fighter with the main objective of air superiority, it will feature a internal weapon bay and RCS reduction features. Right now it is still in early stages of development, a JDW article estimates the jet will be in service around 2015 or sooner.

According to estimates the MCA would first fly in 2009. It's gonna be built upon the LCA plaform and it is supposed to fulfill the role of an Air-Superiority Aircraft (hence replace Su-30MKI). Here's a conceptual drawing:

please don't kill me for this but two things when its turning what will support it from not falling vertically (maybe the inertia will keep it moving. the second thing it looks like the viggen or the Mirage 3 form the top. it won't be very maneuverable i am no Aero genius but i doubt it will trun out to look like this the aim is Air superiority, and i doubt it will gain Air superiority other then A high mach super cruise. so the design stage will reveal differences from this design. this desing is not real where the hell are the inlets !! where the hell is the engine going to breath from. it will be alot more Thicker like the JSF because it will have to carry Missile load inside.

MCA would replace Su-30MKI in 2009? Thats the biggest joke I've ever heard. India has only gotten Su-30s recently and phasing 'em out so soon as 2009 sounds a bit non-sensible to me! Hell, even the US doesnt change aircrafts at that level!!!

depends dude if russia jumps in to the bed with India on the project then India may find its self with a new Air superiority fighter by 2009, i have no Doubt that Money can buy any thing or any one, including Russia !! i would say Russia and the US are the only two nations that have teh ability to build a hightech Flyer inn no time at all just look at the russian TU bomber or the Lockheed SR-71

India's plan is to work in the PAF-FA .. Pick up the requried tech etc .. and then build the MCA .. I was refering to the first prototype to fly by 2009, just an estimate
