The arms-tass article explicitly states, delivered to the troops. Поступили в войска. It makes little sense to deliver 3 aircraft to the troops. Which is why I suspect that this may be the first squadron. The bases mentioned at warfare.ry are Lipets, Astrakhan and Novosibirsk, with 10 a/c delivered. If we assume their info is slightly dated, and combine that with the new article from arms-tass then squadron service is more then likely. I'll dig for more info.

EDIT: Here's the official VVS release: http://www.mil.ru/848/1045/1273/vvs/19207/index.shtml?id=58063

The statement is that the first (plural first) Su-34 aircraft have been delivered to the VVS. Interestingly enough the list of aircraft for the VVS still doesn't include the Su-34.

I have the feeling the Russian state tries to keep things secret, but that's understandable.
Same thing as the USA did with the Nighthawk.
Maybe they allready have a larger number in service?

Those Su-34 comes out at Low production rate(my quess), so i think the "bort nr 03" are the latest aircraft to join the RuAF.

But as it goes we can not be sure, maybe the "04" is around the corner as we speak.

Those Strikers are fairly expensive..
Do anyone have any cost per unit??

Thanks

I heard around 60 million. I'll look around to get you a source. Anyways, we got news that they have been delivered to the troops. Flight International listed 10 of them delivered. So does warfare.ru which is typically fairly reliable. I don't think it would make sense for less then a squadron to get delivered. But I could be wrong. These could just be used for conversion training.

Yeah i've heard the same(60mill),
but also around 80 mill$..
I'm searching for sources, but no luck..

Agreed.
A squadron or 10 sound about right, AFAIK.

A VVS squadron is 12 airframes. A regiment is 2 squadrons. Right now they're transitioning to 3 squadron units that will be called "airbases" and will be assigned to an operational command from what I understand.

isnt a squadron around 12-25? so wouldnt that fall short of a full small squadron?

Well, in 2006 and 2007 NAPO delivered Su-34-"01" & "02" to the Lipetsk for evaluation..
So with another 10 units it should reach a full squadron.

Here's an interesting observation regarding the Red "02":

"The larger boom appears to contain an active stand-off jammer with a directional antenna mounted on the rear of the protuberance. The smaller boom used on previous versions normally houses the aircraft's electronic warfare self-protection suite."

http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2007/01/02/211329/bountiful-boom-for-red-o2.html

Looks like the Su-34-03 has the same stand-off jammer!

http://gorod48.ru/association/news-12175.html

Do anyone have somthing on those jammers on the Su-34?
From what i understand those stand-off jammers pack a hell of a output..

Found some news on Su-34.

Medvedev visits Kubinka Airbase.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev (R) and Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov look at high-tech military aircraft at the Kubinka airbase just outside Moscow on March 28, 2009. Following in the footsteps of his predecessor Vladimir Putin, Medvedev took a voyage in an SU-34 strategic bomber.

I thought there was no need for oxygen mask inside the Su-34 Cockpit?

How much range increase with those senter pods?

You shouldn't take those APA fools seriously, they have their own agenda and their research is shoddy at best.
Are you saying that their estimates of the Flanker is incorrect AegisFC?
Or is it their conclusions you question. To me the 'facts' about the Flanker seemed good?

They don't live in the real world. Unfortunately for APA, they do not live or work in a place where knowledge of REALISTIC A2A combat takes place.

At best, I suppose you could call them enthusiastic amateurs.

APA is considered inaccurate and un-intelligent at best. Malcious and deceitful at worst. Take anything they say with a grain of salt, and most certainly do not do research using their site.
