not all the time.....I have to say, IMO, the USA, Spain and South Korea know how to built sexy boats.
Just wondering if anyone has any information on when the JC1 will commence, if not already, flight ops ? And what the intentions are for the work up and training of the crew in this period and what type of aircraft they will use
Thanks
With regards to the above link, I found it yesterday and sent Navantia a message asking for an english version, which they have kindly done overnight ! Link belowNice Navantia's video on LHD/JCI.
I hope it´s not already posted here...

FYI, Just read that the Canberra will be launched at Ferrol on Feb 17 1600 local time, all going well of course (touch wood)
That date was given to me by the shipyard, have asked them to confirm the 17th for me, one might be a typo maybe or the shced has been changed since the 11th was anouncedhmmm the link above says the 11th
six days doesnt really matter that much anyway, better than six monthsThat date was given to me by the shipyard, have asked them to confirm the 17th for me, one might be a typo maybe or the shced has been changed since the 11th was anounced
17th confirmed by Navantia for the launch of Canberra, two months ahead of schedule. No date yet set for Adelaide but she is also ahead of sched. Interesting to note Navantia now making a concerted push for more sales of these to keep the shipyard ticking over.six days doesnt really matter that much anyway, better than six months
Are you talking about the LHD or AWD?17th confirmed by Navantia for the launch of Canberra, two months ahead of schedule. No date yet set for Adelaide but she is also ahead of sched. Interesting to note Navantia now making a concerted push for more sales of these to keep the shipyard ticking over.
Not sure who else would be in the market for such a vessell though ?
Yes was talking about the LHD's, incidentally Navantia do have a design for a smaller version of the JC1/Canberra class of approx 190 mtrs and appears not to have a ski jumpAre you talking about the LHD or AWD?
Well the LHD is a very flexable ship.
I would assume they would target:
South Africa - they were looking a smaller/cheaper ship, but Spain seems to be able to push hulls out for very low cost. SA might have a minimal fitout (ie cargo ship radar etc) but get a much larger and more capable vessel. They could get real use out of the larger size.
UK - There may or may not be a need for a ship of this type if not now, maybe 10 years time.
Canada - depending on where they go, they might be interested in a ship of this type, providing a real amphib capability although the JSS seems to be their baby.
The fact Australia is buying two and they seem to provide a great deal of capability for a fairly reasonable price.
Malaysia, India, Greece, Turkey, Brazil, Chile, Germany (?? Could they get into this kind of projection).I wonder if they came back to Australia with a extremely competitive offer (essentially cost) if Australia would concider a 3rd LHD ship (or 4th AWD), perhaps if encouraged by the americans on a capability basis?
Navantia certainly seems to have some efficent yards. They have really motored on the LHD. Im sure locally we will be slow with the fitout, but it still may sail close to the origional time.
