I don't know, perhaps there is something in it............ they (DEFMIN and Co) spent $130million on an OSV which they don't really use but keep manned with a civilian crew. The annual operating cost would not be cheap. Keep that sort of approach up and lots of Money (or should I say lots more) will get flushed.

Over thirty years we would also be talking the replacements for the AWDs, LHDs, and the replacements for the replacements of the Armidales based on a 25 to 30 year life span and only 14-15 years for PBs. Also the new subs, depending if they go for a continuous build or not (one every 18 months to 2 years) will probably start being replaced within this time frame as well.

But I'll bite we need a second Bay class and two more AWD can't see the AWD getting up we could in theory build a Bay class

Yes very clever, I like that, the 'Island' Class.
Now all we need is for the Government to announce the purchase of an aircraft carrier and name it after that other 'big' island and call it HMAS Australia!
They could announce it during the International Fleet Review perhaps.
Oh well..... it's Father's Day, I'm allowed to dream aren't I?
If we ever get an aircraft carrier it would be more in size to be a HMAS Tasmania.
One the of the CVFs would be perfect then. They've got two 'heads'

Abe, yes you are right, how silly of me, I was thinking too big, but a small CV named HMAS Tasmania would certainly do for a start (Probably make our fellow contributor Tasman a happy man if they named another ship after his home State!)
It's been a long time since the first HMAS Tasmania was decommissioned, we are certainly long over due for another one.
Raven, two heads you say? Mmmm, yes well..... actually my Great Grandmother was born in Tasmania in the 1850's (from Irish convict parents, shotgun wedding too!) and no, they weren't brother and sister or even first cousins!!
Well if FBE gets moved to Brisbane they can name the new flagship after that great Brisbane estuary landmark: HMAS Mud Island.
