I have not had any access to the net for a couple of weeks, but one thing I did find interesting is catching up on Navy news(just know) from the 30/7/12 is a story on HMAS Success, Navy news has her back doing a RAS work ups in July or is this one of those story they could not hold back in time, confused!!!

Jus a few more days to secure her on the Blue Marlin and off to Oz. Estimated trip duratiopn is two months. So I think it will get to Oz first week of October

Big ship the CANBERRA; Even bigger ship the BLUE MARLIN. I was a little curious on how the CANBERRA would fit. What I didn't grasp was the size of the BLUE MARLIN.

I wonder what the displacement of the CANBERRA was as she was loaded?

Thanks for the images. Jeezs she's humungous. So is the Blue Marlin but the Canberra!! And that is without the Island superstructure.

She did indeed sail in July, and conducted work ups. Im well aware as it cost me a bottle of rum...:drunk1
Shes expected to sail for another month then proceed to dock...worth every penny that $15 million(thats official figure, but unofficial is alot more!) for 2months sailing in last 12mths

Mount Gay Extra Old, so top quality jamacan spiced rum, and ive posted out of sydney so hes leaving it on the shelf till i return.
Ive still got the return bet that she'll be decommissioned by the end of the year, heres hoping if she breaks down again and nearly runs into north head Ala Kanimbla.

Very impressive. I still can't help some nagging feelings I have taking that out onto open waters a very very long way. Its pretty high and fair bit of overhang. No doubt it will be fine. Surely she might have to stop for bad weather?

I'm certainly impressed watching the builds. I hope the local build portion goes well and carries on the work from our Spanish friends. I had thought the hull would be a complete stripper (primer and only essential hull structure), but it looks like its got more than that. Still think 3 of these would be nicer than just a matching pair.

The blue marlin is pretty big ... over 76000 tons with a full load.

It previous claim to fame was returning the USS Cole to America for repairs.

I was checking the internet and found the biggest load BLUE MARLIN has carried was 60,000 tonnes. This was a drilling rig THUNDER HORSE PDQ. The CANBERRA is not a stretch for this vessel except in linear dimensions. Weightwise this ship could carry the CANBERRA, ADELAIDE and the USS COLE at one time with no problems.

Dockwise are building another heavy lift ship to be called DOCKWISE VANGUARD capable of lifting 110,000 tonnes. Imagine lifting a fully loaded US CVN out of the water

Hey we could get Kanimbla, Manoora, Tobruk and Success all back to sea at once. I see an end to the RANs seaworthyness issues, once the hulls rusted through and the machinery is screwed just hire a heavy lift ship to cart it around.
