in the latest nzdf youtube clip the (newer darker) MCU looks like it is preforming better in close country than in some of the early images that came out. Any feedback from those in the field regarding this?

Also good to see the fastroping and NVG/IR being more intergrated into training ops.

Fast roping is only allowed for the Enhanced Rifle Company's of the two RF battalions, the other rifle company's do not train for this skill set. NVG & IR are common place in all training thanks to Afghan NZDF has a 10 year replacement system in place to role out new NVG every year.

They are still around currently the combat school has them, hopefully they will develop a doctrine for its employment for the rifle company's to use as part of the close in support of assaulting rifle platoons etc.

Interesting, fast roping is a surprisingly common skill in the RAN from all those years of conducting boardings in the MEO and other areas. The boarding parties include marine technicians as well as the more usual Bosuns Mates so the skill gets spread around a bit.

RNZAF have deemed only Tier 1 & those Tier 2 supporting them will do live drops from either UH-1H or NH90 live so no other Rifle Company's will be able to get live training from RNZAF helo no matter how many training drops you do from a tower or if you are trained in Hawaii with the USMC. One day things might change in RNZAF.

Operational necessity verses defence's risk adversity. Air forces seem to be the most risk adverse of the services as well, there are stories of the US Armys and even the RAN FAAs performance in the early days of the Vietnam deployment verses that of the RAAF, not an issue with the crews, who often went above and beyond to support ground forces, rather with the poor risk appetite of the higher echelons of the RAAF.

My comments are based on photos/comments posted in another forum.
True it does look the same as the uniforms in a lot of previous photos/NZDF PR.

But I have read comments by soldiers that some of the early run pieces had a tendency to loose colour/go pale after a few washes/wear and tear. Photos on other forums support this. I have also read that latter issued uniforms (comments stated to be issued late 2014) were to be 'darker' and remedy this problem.
The MCU shown in the vid I linked on the whole appeared to be more consistently 'green' than stuff I have seen in other photos. However, IMO something even darker/greener might be better for SE Asia/Pac (my 2 cents anyway)

Those guys are commandos being part of SAS so do not usually use what the regulars use as their daily weapon(s) of choice.

I've seen recent photos of MAN 8x8 armoured recovery vehicles on other pages. Anyone know how many of these army got as they were not included in the bulk order awhile back so must have been tagged onto the order later on.

These should definately have no problems recovering NZLAV.

Can you post some links to the pics. haven't seen any pics of NZDF armoured MAN trucks. Wasn't aware that we got the full recovery versions, thought we just had some equiped with winches etc

They were on one of the NZ trucking pages on FB, someone followed it down the motorway, will try and find it again. I had photos of them fitting the cabs in trentham for training but sorry they are lost now.

Wondered also if they would get them and looks like they did was just curious as to how many as we have 5 current recovery vehs which are not mog/2228 era so wonder if we replaced 1 for 1 or kept the old ones and just added 2 or 3 specifically for LAV.
