New Coronavirus threat

If a sovereign citizen is claiming to constitute an independent state in and of themselves, is there not an argument that they are illegally violating the borders of the country they find themselves in? If so, perhaps respond to this invasion with a precision airstrike, or simply relocate them to international waters on a canoe :p

I wonder how some of these southern governors who are of up for election in 2022 will fare? Between losing their antivaxxer supporters to COVID and what surely must be an increasing number of voters who have lost family members, I would expect by significant drop in support.

Covid-19 hospitalizations are surging again, but they're different this time

Not to get political, but I would not hold my breath on things improving. Even if individual governors end up losing, I would expect their replacements to be quite similar in policy. TBH I suspect at least some of them will be eyeing runs for national offices, and that at least some of the stances taken, despite scientific and medical policy advise, or even how the policy clashes with decades of ideology, is done to appeal to certain portions of the political spectrum.

On the TV news here last night a BBC reporter was in the Southern States interviewing church leaders and church goers who all said that they wouldn't get the vaccine because it wasn't right and they didn't know what was in it. At one church they didn't like him interviewing church members. The preachers were preaching against vaccination. You just have to wonder.

No, no you do not have to wonder...

It is not just the attitude which was exhibited above that is a problem, but there are an entire host of other associated things which contribute to the problems involved in getting a handle on the coronavirus in the US. There are some segments of the US population, often very religious and conservative (IMO less conservative, esp now, and more regressive) which have at times controlled what is taught is US schools, and still work to exert or re-exert such control. Among the aspects of education that have actively worked against, is the teaching of science. BTW this is not a new situation for the US, since Tennessee v. Scopes, known more commonly as the Scopes Monkey Trial, took place in the state of Tennessee in 1925, nearly a century ago. This taught and indoctrinated ignorance, as well as a taught inability to engage in critical thinking. A case in point was back in 2012 when Texan politicians opposed Higher Order Thinking Skills (aka critical thinking) from being taught in Texas schools on the basis that they would challenge student's fixed beliefs and undermine parental authority.

With such a background, and now in the foreground political and religious "leaders" having been stating opposition to vaccinations as well as mandates for mitigation efforts, it is little wonder that the US is now in another wave.

Perhaps COVID is a gene pool improvement tool wrt to some parts of the US. Let them wait for JHC to save their sorry arses, way more effective than vaccines.

Can you please explain to me with thinking like that how in the hell did the US ever manage to put Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the Moon, then bring them back home safely? The mind boggles.

TBH IMHO I reckon it is a direct throwback to the first pilgrims from 17th Century Cromwellian England. They were a sect that even Cromwell, the Lord Protector, thought to be far to fundamental. These were the founders of the 13 North American colonies and their basic beliefs, tenants, prejudices, and intolerance are still alive and well in US society today.

No, I cannot explain it, for two reasons. The first is that the explanation would involve socio-political, economic, and religious interests in the US, and be well off from any topic DT should be involved in. The second is that it would also require me being able to understand how things got to be the way they are. I cannot honestly state that I understand it, or even understand the thinking (or rather, blind faith in place of thought) involved.

What I can comment on are areas where I can see what the situation is, and offer commentary on why outcomes might not be what people expect.

Not sure that the issue dates back to the time of Charles I though. IIRC there were a number of groups in England that were identified as Radicals or parts of Revival movements from the mid 18th century into the early 19th century and often included a component which took issue with the Anglican Church. Such groups were also active in parts of the US at the same time. For example, John Wesley (arguably the founder of Methodism) was an English theologian, but spent time in what as the Georgia colony in the 1730's, in what is now the state of Georgia in the US. A number of related organizations have proven rather reluctant, or perhaps resistant, to change, to the point of obscuring their early histories to mask why they were founded.

http://instagr.am/p/CScGD7kJVWT/ On a less serious note… Like the guy in the picture, I am also vaccinated and I can show proof on my handphone thanks to the TraceTogether App. Dine-in at food and beverage establishments will be allowed for groups of up to five people if all are fully vaccinated or have a negative Covid test in the last 24 hours. In Singapore, you are only considered vaccinated 2 weeks after your second shot — soon you will need this cert to eat in a restaurant — 79% of our adult population will have this cert soon. Singapore has one the fastest vaccination rollouts globally.

There is continuing evidence that almost all fully-vaccinated individuals do not suffer serious disease when infected, unless if they had underlying medical conditions that made them more susceptible. Over the last 28 days, the percentage of unvaccinated who became severely ill or died is 9.3%, while that for the fully vaccinated is 0.9%.

Singapore will allow the entry of more fully vaccinated work pass holders and their dependents. And from 20 Aug 2021, fully vaccinated travelers from selected countries — including Australia, Canada, Germany and South Korea — can serve a mandatory quarantine at their homes. "We're now in a stronger position to resume with our re-opening journey, but in a cautious and calibrated way," said Gan Kim Yong, trade and industry ministry and co-chair of the coronavirus task force.

That picture above is actually really funny. Actually might consider doing the same once I got my second jab.

NZ into lockdown after COVID case in Auckland. Three days at Level 4 restrictions for most of the nation, seven days for Auckland and Coromandel.
An immediate run on dunny paper and a whole lot of Jafas headed off to their bachs in the Coromandel this arvo when the case was announced. Betcha they were doing very hasty about turns when the details were announced just after 6pm :D One of the MSM was trying to pin the blame on the RCN FFG that had visited Auckland last week. Toe rag.

Texas is being led by an abhorrently corrupt governor who is so scared of Covid-19 that he has gotten a booster shot on top of being fully vaccinated whilst banning masks, lying about the vaccine and downplaying the severity of Covid-19.

Gov. Greg Abbott attended a crowded, maskless indoor political event and now he unfortunately has Covid. He’s getting VIP treatment unavailable to everyday Texans. It’s the height of hypocrisy for him not to let schools require masks.

Now Republican Gov. Greg Abbott is receiving monoclonal antibody treatment, something the FDA has only authorized for those with “high risk for progression to severe COVID-19.” Must be nice.

In NZ there are approximately ten cases in the community now and they all are the Delta variant. The genome sequencing has established that the variant is a NSW import. Case A was reported on Tuesday of this week and was infectious from last Friday.

Covid 19 coronavirus Delta outbreak: Three cases emerge since 1pm; AUT student among cases; new Auckland locations of interest including supermarkets - NZ Herald

However this evening it is reported that one case has a a place of contact back to 3rd August. This is of concern because if it is correct that means it has been circulating for two weeks.

Definitely a concern wrt Delta if circulation was on going for 2 weeks. If Delta had been the original virus, the pandemic would have been much worse. Only vaccination has prevented a much bigger problem in North America (except US southern states). Hopefully your vaccination program is ramping up now.

Jacindarella is doing her stand up at the moment and they have narrowed the genomic sequencing data down to Sydney and a particular individual who's been in MIQ at the moment, so it's about a week. The individual was moved to a hospital after Case A was infected, so they are now concentrating on the time frame from when the person from Sydney arrived in NZ until they were admitted to hospital.
