The Iranian Air Force need some modern fighter that a fact. I must say this to keep American jets going without U.S. help is indeed an accomplishment. They remodeled some C-130 with help of Taiwan and some other country forget who it was. Doing the 80's and the 90's I never would think they would keep the F-14 going since they were the only country beside America to have the F-14 that amazed me for a long time. The sanction have hurt the Iranian Air Force they have the money to buy jets just can't get any due to sanctions on them. The Iranian Air Force is still a 1970's force. They talk a big game but they are nothing but a small fry. They have alot of heart but they can't deal with the level of power that the Israel or U.S. have. I will said this they will try the U.S. in combat if they make it off the airfield. I feel sorry for them.

Saudi Air Force still need U.S. assistance in maintaining the F-15's. Saudi Arabia has a problem with techincal skills. So they have not sorted out the maintenace problem yet. Saudi need foreign help in keeping its jets going that not good at all. The Iranian Air Force is self relience meanly it can keep it own jet going by itself without foreign help that the only thing I will give the Iranian Air Force an A on.

No offense, but Iran has not demonstrated any capability to design and manufacture complex avionics systems. As such, a statement of a new radar and cockpit systems which would be superior to the AWG-9 sounds more like nationalistic chestbeating than a legitimate claim. The AWG-9 when it first came out was a very advanced system, enabling an F-14 to track 24 different targets, and engaging 6 of them simultaneously at ranges of up to ~80 miles with AIM-54 Phoenix missiles.
Now it might have been possible for Iran to reverse engineer the AWG-9 systems to allow manufacture of new units, or possible adaptation for other aircraft (like the twin-tailed F-20 Tigershar lookalike). OTOH, it is also possible that such an engineering and production feat might have been too much for the domestic electronics industrial base.
It is certainly noteworthy that Iran has even managed to keep some of the F-14 Tomcats flying for as long as they have, with the parts embargo in place. And the same goes for being able to produce the aircraft which very strongly resembles the F-20 Tigershark, even in limited numbers (~5 on a flight line photo). Even a small production run can build up the expertise for a domestic aerospace industrial base.
Having said that though, given the development costs, and technological and industrial bases required to create truly advanced (by current standards) combat aircraft, it is requiring multi-national consortiums to spread the cost across a number of countries. For example, there is the pan-European EF-2000 Typhoon, the multi-national F-35 Lightening II JSF, and AFAIK elements of the PAK-FA are part of a joint Indo-Russian programme.
With the above in mind, given the known and demonstrated economic, industrial and technological capabilities across a range of disciplines that nations like the US, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, Sweden and the UK possess, and the fact that such nations still run into developmental difficulties with programmes... Any claims made by Iran, particularly with respect to indigenious development of 'cutting edge' capabilities, are going to be taken with a number of grains of salt.
Again, this is not to denigrate what has been accomplished, but one should also not attempt to make more of what has been accomplished either.

I just went and checked, not much there to see. One or two pictures we have seen before, no dates, no figures, no line up picture, has this trainer/attack jet even flown once? This is really the problem about discussing just about anything to do with Iran, there is very little info available, it's virtually all conjecture.Note how even wikipedia mentions that no official data has been released, to support the claims? As far as we can tell, Iran has done a good job of keeping an aging fleet of F5s,F4s and F14s flying. They seem to have done some modifications to some F5s which might be new builds but probably are rebuilt. Doubt they come close to even early F18A. Also it seems they have done some modifications to some AAMs and SAMs.
After that, I will say that you can believe what ever you want to believe.
