So, the official explanation is that many soldiers are involved with humanitarian missions/handling natural disasters of this moment, with other words from the more than 300.000 TNI-personnel, almost all are because of this not available to join the 5 Oktober ceremony. Why don't they just admit that this is because of the lack of required funds? To be honest is not wrong, and such explanation is acceptable and not embarrassing at all. From which i remember they did this before one time in the '80s, if i'm not wrong they spent a lot of funds to acquire the MM38 Exocet, so they were forced to keep 5 Oktober extremely simple, with only having 3 or 4 officers marching in the parade. Please correct me if i am wrong.

Why do they give the number 100, and not beginning with 101? In the past they always start with the more logic 01.

In the end the whole operation of forcing the early transfer of the KRI Guiseppe Garibaldi and the rushing to arrive before 5 Oktober was all for nothing :-D

From Keris FB, shown Garibaldi being prepared and clean up. The name already in process to become Sriwijaya. I'm still wait the official number whether use prefix 1 as Helicopter-Drone Carrier or 5 as Amphibious Vessels. Both has same rumours.

Correction
The hull number already 100, why 100? Perhaps PAL lobby that 101 being given to their 'supposedly' carrier own design. Supposedly as now still not clear whether will be base on Fincantieri or Navantia design. Altough I suspect Fincantieri design get traction. Rumours that Fincantieri offer enlarge Garibaldi design but with Trieste element. Well it will be years if going ever to be emerge. Perhaps after 2040 when ex Garibaldi/Sriwijaya close to retirement (again).

I sense this is not matter of Fund. The administration want to shown this time around the prepardness of TNI for natural disaster management. It is not politically correct if doing large ceremony when there are still natural disaster breewing, especially the forest/plantation fires in Kalimantan and Sumatra.

2 Scorpene Evo as 2nd batch is expected. However the deal for FDI raise question on PAL capacity. PAL already got assignment for 2+2 Arrowhead 140 FMP, and FDI raise questions where they are going to be build.

The agreement still a frame work as base, and not clear yet how many FDI frigates going to be discussed in here. So FMP, PPA, Istiff and now FDI (not putting SIGMA 10514 PKR, as it is more appropriate as Corvette or Light Frigate). Fincantieri still after 2nd batch, so does Turkiye for Istiff. I still don't see they can build all in Indonesia, as local shipyard capacity will be raise in question.

We should commit to just the AH140 / FMP (ideally 6) and pick up Fincantieri offer for the PPAs, in my opinion 8+ PPA in Full configuration.

I'm fine with Scorpene, we need them, but FDI? Istif-class? Useless.

Rumours that Fincantieri now offer to build this with Republikorp in their Palindo yard. Intead PPA, which now they offering to take 1 or 2 again from Marina Militare production line. This is same capabilities as Sigma 10514 and properly call Corvette.

Rumours Fincantieri retract offer to build large Frigate in Indonesia, after asses that local shipyard asside PAL only have capabilities up to Corvette/Light Frigate level. Thus this back to question where those Istif or FDI going to be build when present PAL capacity already focus to LPD and FMP.

The new PAL facility in Lamongan still far away to be build for large ships (commercial or Naval) projects. In paper that Lamongan facility will be suitable for PAL to build commercial ships or non combatan naval ships. Again still long way to go, and I don't know where that ambitious PAL CEO can find capacities within this few years.

I think this will be the answer on your question: one of the cheapest naval MANPADS-launchers available, the MBDA Mistral Simbad-RC twin launchers, like this one on the BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151).

After all, having small amounts of 5 different kinds of frigates is more important than a decent and effective air defence system for the only aircraft carrier of the fleet.

The hand over ceremony begin today, seems the preparation already begin with the brasses already entering. It will be symbolically done by lowering Italian flag and raising Indonesia one. The ship in operational condition, but Fincantieri and PAL state the refit program will enter soon enough.

Why Indonesian Navy TNI-AL and Shipyard now use and partnering with Euro mediteranian nation like France, Italy and Turkiye, more then northern Euro ? Even Spain already test try the waters.

My take on this is politically as most Mediteranian NATO nation more likely not to put political and human rights string on defence agreement. French and Italian defense company already reach out to Indonesia in late 90's and early 2000, when US, UK and other Northern Euro still stay away after East Timor debacle.

Indonesia Waters basically mediterania plus in tropics. So Navy that build for Mediterania is more likely can be source for more appropriate environment naval ships. Yes Nato Meditetanian also work in Atlantics, but their basic design clearly also prepared for Mediterania. Something that seems MinDef and TNI-AL in here see similarities on enviromental nature.

So DRASS involve in the training of KRI Sriwijaya crews. Seems they are veteran crew from ITS Garibaldi that being hired by DRASS as trainers. I tought before Fincantieri that will be in charhe of training. Seems Fincantieri will focus on upgrade system, sensors, and hull with PAL.

There're Indonesian netizens that call getting 40 year old Carrier is waste of resources, when there are 5 60 years old Frigates and Tankers that still being maintaines, plus 50 years old corvettes, 40 year old Submarines and that's not all.



Despite tens of new build Indigenous naval ships, mostly are Patrol Boats like above. This as main workforce of TNI-AL patrol force are them. So yes some Fregates or Corvettes being build or bought from overseas. However despite all this, TNI-AL still green water navy which's why the tittle of this thread still appropriate. Will take more years for TNI-AL to really develop Blue Water capabilities. This is if the intention really there.
