Historically Important Military System post WW2

Yeah, sometimes you want to hold it like in the movies. :D
But I like it for the small dimesions but bigger magazin and effective range and accuracy. Great for close quarter situations and a very nice weapon for vehicle crews where a pistol, even an automatic one, is undersized.

To be honest I would rather have a pistol grip combat shot gun.

Do you have enough room in the seating arrangements for that, I have a nice Mossberg 590 with side saddle and pistol grip that I can send you.

I appreciate the offer but I was hypothisizing what I would want if I was a grunt with limited space.

Not much coming out the bug but you should see me off a hunting trip... I look like that guy off of Police Academy... every square inch has a weapon in it. :D

What I think is important military systems.

My definition of important military systems is a technology that has contributed to contiues development in all modern military forces and bransches and technologies you can find in modern armed forces.

Aviation
Jet engine
Fly-by-wire
Supercruise
Canards

Missles
V2 Rocket
AA-11 Archer

Small arms
AK-47
RPG-7
MG-42

Other
RADAR
IR-sights
Stealth
Computer
Electronic warfare
Composite materials

This list can be extended with a lot of things, but I'm to lazy... :)

My applause goes to you for at least suggesting a definition rather then naming your favourite way to kill :)
Of course the thread was begun with requirement of a system and not a technology which may represent many such systems.
What is more, the thread asks to name a system that has influenced the post-WW2 defence development.
Far be it from me to disagree with the many fine suggestions made by the esteemed and learned colleagues and contributors, but it seems to me that THE key system of the post-WW2 defence development was

T-55

:)

Rattmuff, just for historical purposes, candards weren't actually invented after WW2. The Wright Flyer in 1903 actually used a set of candards for control surfaces. A lot people don't realize that, including a number of people that took an aviation history class with me in college. Just shows how much those early flyers influenced later aircraft.

While I don't know "Big-E" personally, his self-description makes me think he has a new nickname: Tackleberry!:D

That was the name... I couldn't remember. I have three different hunting knives... carry my Glock, strap a compound bow and a single shot Barret .50 cal.

This is more like going to war and not going for hunting. :D
Waylander, I thought some people were overdoing it also until a buck entered a house in upstate NY and killed a child while trying to get out.

Two weeks later a bear rampaged through a small community, but no one had any guns except police. Luck no one was hurt except two pet dogs.

Speaking of historically important military systems, the bow was probably up there since it is the original missile weapon :)
I understand the SF area still issued those little crossbows?

For HUNTING? Sorry mate, but that seems RIDICULOUS to me. Would not a .308 Winchester or a .338 lapua be a better weapon? It'd DEFINITELY be a lighter one...
